Checo> wait
He should be very nervous if RB decides to serve vegemite sandwiches as the pre-race meal tomorrow.
He should still be able to get into the top eight tomorrow. He is on a BAD run of luck though. That was weird how he hit p1 with like two minutes to go in q1, only to see fifteen people jump him. I don't ever remember seeing that before. It was also weird that he was out there early to leave the pits first after the red flag and Max was lined up last. Everyone knew the track was improving by the minute, even the Ferrari's lol. Curious who made that call at Red Bull.

The usual track evolution was exacerbated by drying conditions in sector 3. Perez also had to wait for a long time at the head of the queue at pit out while his tires cooled. I don't know how big of a factor that was.

Sending Checo out early is a defensible strategy call by RBR. If you're first in line, you eliminate the risk of having a hot lap erased by a local yellow flag. If Bottas had broken down one lap earlier, Perez and other early runners would have been in the catbird's seat.

Either way, he should have done better than P16 in the best car. I don't see him losing the seat mid-season but Checo's poor results are making the 2024 silly season much more interesting.

Yeah, Checo did sit there at the end of pit lane for a long time. Imagine it wasn't ideal to getting his tire temp up to where he needed it with so little time left.

No matter who it is, being #2 to Max at RB you have to realize that you are going to get the short end of the stick on all strategy decisions. That has to be frustrating for these drivers, who are so competitive.

Man, I absolutely love qualifying. Just the tension ramping up as time ticks down, the track changes and cars on different strategies.

That last lap restart (Q1 IIRC) from the pits (boxes?) where Hamilton was coming out really slow with Max and Gasly behind him, then him warming up his tyres while Max is trying to get around. :lmao: c'mon

Sidebar Is that pit lane exit even safe? I assume they have spotters but the way the exit is setup is sketchy AF. Assume it's been that way since the 1880s or whenever started racing carriages in roman times.

The current Silverstone pitlane was built to modern FIA specs when they reconfigured the track in 2011. The cars exit the pits at speed for the second half of the chicane at Abbey. It looks weird because the track is at a higher elevation than the pitlane but it's not as extreme as the tunnel to re-enter at Abu Dhabi.

I think the former pit lane exit was sketchier. Cars used to exit the pits into traffic at Copse. Speeds of the cars going down the old main straight were higher than the current pit out. Copse is taken virtually flat out these days; it may not have been back in the day but it's always been a very high speed corner.

I thought today's race was pretty good by 2023 standards. There weren't a lot of overtakes but most of the passing was legitimate rather than DRS-aided slingshots.

The safety car jumbled things up but other than swapping Hamilton and Piastri, it didn't have a decisive effect on the standings. I don't like the idea of being able to run a soft/medium one-stopper but I get that Pirelli can't predict Sunday weather conditions when they choose the compounds.

I guess the floor wasn't the problem for Yuki. At least he beat de Vries again but it was another forgettable weekend in the basement.

The Hungaroring in two weeks is a completely different circuit so it'll be interesting to see where everybody stacks up behind Red Bull.

What is all the hype with Riccardo?

He's easily the most annoying driver on DTS, and this AlphaTauri move has him plastered all over F1 media. I miss Nyck already...

I understand all the attention. There's nothing else going on in F1 at the moment. Both titles are decided, the new Andretti/Hitech entries are stalemated and it's shaping up to be a relatively quiet silly season. Ricciardo has lots of fans and is more quotable than anybody on the grid and who doesn't love a good redemption arc.

I feel bad for de Vries but if you had offered him 11 F1 drives a year ago , he would have sold his soul for them.

It's the Hungaroring this weekend as the front half of a back-to-back. It's a lower speed circuit than the last two so everyone will bring higher downforce packages. The conventional wisdom is this should favor Aston Martin more than Mercedes or Ferrari but there have been a lot of upgrades since Monaco so who knows.

There are new qualifying rules where all cars have to do Q1 on hards, Q2 of mediums and Q3 on softs. Pirelli has chosen the three softest compounds which along with unseasonably hot temperatures probably means multiple pitstops.

Hungary has provided some good racing in recent years. There aren't many cheap DRS-aided overtakes so positions have to be earned, usually via side-by-side action in the first sector.

Im lookong forward to a decent race this weekend. Really pulling for Checo to get it together. When did you change your avatar btw? As a Reiner, I liked the Carl Reiner looking one.

Watching practice replay, feel bad for Checo. I don't mean to be negative but I just find Danica Patrick to be such an insufferable, know-it-all. It reminds of when Phil Simms used to be an in game color commentator. . . same type of nails on a chalkboard level annoying.

I thought it was just me, lol.

Absolutely not just you! The bad part is, I've been watching F1 for years and it's always been a very enjoyable experience (and it still is) but, wow, when she starts in it's just too much. It makes me want to create a "mute this voice" option, same kind of thing when I was a kid. . . I think I would call it the "SIMMS button" and you could "SIMMS" someone with the press of a button. You could mute that one voice that's annoying an otherwise enjoyable program.

Most of the quotes are lame and he comes off as a try-hard imo. Hopefully he's out in Q1 tomorrow so he has plenty of time to give quotes.

Charles looking fast, hope Ferrari don't mess it up

She is still better than the pre race pit walk where celebrities and drivers get a mic shoved in their faces. I can't watch that cringe fest .

He’s seemed like a good dude on his Pardon my Take interviews.

I’ll have to check those out. Thanks

The documentary “Stewart” that was shown after the race is very good.
I didn't have it set to record, so I missed that. I'm bummed. He was uncle's favorite driver, and he was the one that got me in F1. Looks like they are re-airing on Wed at 3am ET, so I have it set to record. Looking forward to it.

Big shakeup at Alpine with team principal Otmar Szafnauer and technical directory Alan Permane both getting the sack mid-season. Permane had been a fixture with the Enstone team back to when they were winning championships as Benetton in the 90s.

The hot name to replace Otmar is Mattio Binotto who has experience with both corporate politics and dumpster fires.

Saturday sprint was delayed and shortened due to wet conditions but it still dried out enough to eat up the intermediate tires by the end. No surprises out front with Max pulling out a second per lap.

Any news on what happened to Checo there? Figured it was a mechanical issue or Lewis hitting him from behind. Thx

The collision with Hamilton put a hole in Perez' sidepod.

I thought the penalty on Hamilton was harsh. I don't know where else he could have put his car especially on a drying track. But it's a Sprint race so who really cares anyway

Started watching the F1 series on Netflix a few months ago and have been at least sort of keeping an eye on F1. Max is so unbelievably dominant. Crazy that nobody else even seems to have a legit chance each week.

Max on the radio today was great. He really gets pissy if he's not way out in front lol

Verstappen: "Are we both doing it [with Pérez] or what?"

GP: "You just have to follow my instructions."

Verstappen: "I want to know if both cars do it."

GP: "Max, please follow my instructions. Thank you."

:lmao:

GP- You used alot of tire on the outlap, Max. Not sure that was sensible.

Max- ......

GP- This tyre had reasonable degradation in the first stint. I'd ask you to use your head a bit more.

Max- I could also push on and we do another stop? A little bit of pitstop training.

GP- No not this time.

:lmao: :lmao:

Great drive by Yuki to snatch a point. He benefited from the first turn collision and Gasly's longish stop but he ran a clean mistake-free race. I was kind of surprised Alpha Tauri didn't have him do a longer first stint on mediums but their strategy was pretty clearly in reaction to Albon on both stops.

It's not always possible due to weather and track conditions but today's soft/medium race was a lot more interesting than the medium/hard one-stoppers we've been getting a lot of this season.

Ricciardo broke his wrist hitting the barrier in turn 3 and is out for the weekend.

Liam Lawson will replace him. The New Zealander has been in the Red Bull junior system for years running in DTM and Japanese Superformula in addition to the usual F3/F2 ladder.

Logan Sargeant first American to start in Top 10/make Q3 since 1993!!!

Hoping somebody can spoil the Max invitational today
