Antonelli and Bearman came away from the Barcelona rounds with no points. Bearman had a poor qualifying session and started both races from near the back. Antonelli qualified top 8 but dropped like a stone in the Saturday sprint and then stalled on the grid on Sunday. I still believe in Kimi but I'm beginning to think Bearman has been overrated.

Aron was a Mercedes junior but was dropped from the program in favor of Antonelli. He's been impressive this year although he threw away a potential win yesterday by running wide into the gravel on the right hander onto the main straight. He recovered to finish 4th.

It's a sign that the FIA's feeder system is broken when Antonelli and Bearman are tipped for F1 seats while the past two series champions can't get a look.
 
I think the most impressive Formula 2 driver this year has been Frenchman Isack Hadjar. He's currently second behind Aron but has been on great form since two unlucky weekends to start the season.

Hadjar is a Red Bull junior and is supposedly a personal favorite of Dr. Marko. But he's in his second F2 campaign which is kind of a no win proposition and there are already too many Red Bull drivers for next year. Hadjar is also a world class whiner on the radio on the level of Yuki or Grosjean.

Any chance Checo sucks enough that RB take Yuki and VCARBKETO takes Hadjar?


Same questions but make it Riccardo and disregard RB.

You might as well sign Sainz at that point :shrug:

I love Yuki but think Liam Lawson will be Verstappen's next teammate unless Max goes to Mercedes :oldunsure:

I think this is what Mercedes are working towards the rest of the season - proving they have a car capable of running in the front - to entice Max to jump ship.

Toto has downplayed Antonelli recently - which suggests to me that Antonelli is the back-up plan for next year, if they cannot get Max.
 
lol - Max is nearly 0.5 second clear of Norris, and 0.9 seconds ahead of his own teammate.


Could be some good racing behind Verstappen tomorrow, but I can't see anything beyond Verstappen strolling to victory by lap 2....
 
Bit of funny post Quali news - McLaren tried to protest the decision to delete Piastri's second lap in Q3 (demoting him from P3).

Apparently they did several things wrong in the appeal process - so the protest was denied on technical grounds - but FIA did keep the required £2000 fee for filing the protest.

I'd watch a sprint race from the Red Bull Ring every Saturday. The track usually provides good races with a couple of good passing opportunities plus a couple more for the daring.

The length doesn't bother me. There aren't many corners but they're all unique and flow together beautifully with no chicanes or Mickey Mouse sections.

Sprint weekends have grown on me. The format could still be improved but it's better than another free practice session.

To be clear I meant that DVRs seems to have not acknowledged the existence of sprint weekend and doesn't know how to properly put them in the calendar.

I don't mind them.

Side note so how far up the field does Verstappen lap them today? Like what 5 cars end on the lead lap?

Really odd race.

I don't think its a good race, but the Alpine's battling each other is probably the best part.

Leclerc compromised on Lap 1, Hamilton making mistakes, Lando can't stick with Max, George can't stick with Lando. Perez and Sainz not a factor.

When they got both cars off the mediums after only 10 & 11 laps. I was afraid Haas had gone back to their old tire destroying ways. But their strategy got them clean air to make up time in their second stint and they were able to hang on to the points in a long final stint of 32 & 33 laps.

I would have liked to have seen more of the Hulk-Perez battle at the end but there was a lot going on at the time.

I think they were worried about it too - I seem to recall a message to either Hulk or Magnussen to watch out for tire wear.

Alpine should have pitted one of their cars early to cover that strategy. You have to react to the cars you're racing for points; RB, Aston and Williams brought one car in to cover the undercut but Alpine left Gas and Oco out for another eight laps. Everybody knows those guys can't resist mixing it up on track and splitting strategy would been a smart way to separate them for the bulk of the race.

I don't think F2 results matter as much as F1 simulator data these days. Haas just signed the 14th placed driver in the F2 standings with the 9th placed Antonelli likely to join him. Mercedes' resurgence has some impact on Antonelli's chances because 2025 is no longer being viewed as a gap year for the team. It also keeps the Max to Mercedes rumors alive although that seems very unlikely.

I've seen a lot of Ocon to Haas rumors which makes some sense because he's experienced, quick and still youngish although I don't know why you'd want to subject a rookie to Ocon as a teammate. Bottas is stuck in a queue waiting for Sainz to make up his mind.
