*** OFFICIAL Gears of War on XBOX 360 Thread *** (2 Viewers)

I may hit the EB in my building on the way out. Details to come.I can't believe I'm even considering this. Two weeks ago I had no interest in a stupid XBOX.That was a powerful commercial...
You and me in the same boat. Dammit, I swore I would never do this after the last gamecube/xbox/64/playstation drew me in. Argh!

EB Games had a bunch of them on display behind the register but wouldn't sell me one because I didn't place a pre-order. I told them I'd buy a 360 pro unit to go with it, and they still refused. I told them I'd stop by tomorrow with my Best Buy receipt to show them what they missed. I'll be dropping $5-600 on this stuff tomorrow.

Happy birthday to me in 4 weeks!

anybody that did not preorder find somewhere out there that has it on the shelves?
Got mine at my local GameStop. No preorder, just swung by after work and bought one. Game seriously rocks, played about an hour of the single-player campiagn and a couple hours on Live. It's tough, but cool as all get up.

Went to pick up the HD-DVD today @ EB, but they weren't in either. Picked up the optical sound cord so I will be set up for full diital quality. MI3 didn't come in from BB yet so I am in no hurry.

BTW, I was checking out the GOW manual, and it was $20  no thanks

Well, I was going to try to wait for the holidays, but I caved and ordered this today. Fortunately MC's deal is still good, so you can get the game for ~$46 online... I figure the $15+ savings makes waiting well worth it.

No kidding. WTF. Post some thoughts here people...

I'm either picking up COD or GOW today. Haven't decided yet and I am trying hard not to pick up both. :bag:

Still not at Gamestop even for those with preorders. They don't get it until tomorrow.
Same with Circuit City. I pre-ordered one for my son. I heard both the 7th and the 8th as dates they would have it. Struck out yesterday. They told me today at 5pm would be the earliest.

Ok...I played for about 4 hours last night. At first I played some of the Single player. I was getting wasted left & right. The game is tough. Then I saw some of the guys on my Friends list were playing so I invited one guy over for some Co-Op. It got a little easier, but we still had to think and not just go in and shoot everything. You HAVE to use the cover feature. It's very intuitive and refreshing. There's parts of the Co-Op where you take one soldier with you and your friend takes another and you branch off in different directions. Very Cool.

I then played some Multiplayer. HOLY SWEET MOTHER OF GOD. This game is seriously going to take a bite out of my free time. I could not put the controller down. I'm a teacher and I knew that I had to wake up at 5:30 today and I didn't shut off the 360 until 2:30 a.m. I'm hooked. The maps are small, but it's ok since the max you can play is 4 vs. 4. Some of you might want bigger numbers, but it plays perfectly like this. You are in the oppositions face with 10-15 seconds.

The weapons are extremely varied. The Hammer of Dawn basically lets you "paint" an area and then a huge laser rains down from the sky. Total destruction. This is especially good for taking out snipers. Another favorite of mine was the basic rifle with the CHAINSAW built into it for use as a close combat weapon. One of my favorite moments was when I jumped over a couch, sawed the guy in half with blood flying everywhere. I then switched to my shotty and blasted a fool trying to come after me. I finshed him off with the curbstomp.

My favorite maps are Masoleum, Mansion, and Fuel Depot.

This game is VERY, VERY VIOLENT. Do not play in front of young kids. Seriously. If you guys need to know anything else, just ask.

This game seriously is worth the purchase of a 360. After only one day, I can truly say that hype is definitely worth it. Halo 3 has it work cut out for it.

I rate the game a 9.8 out of 10.

Tell the chick you have to go buy a 360 and a game so you can kill monster locusts online. Problem solved.

Looks like Amazon will not have it ready to ship until 11/11 - I should get it next week.

Note: This item is not immediately available to ship. (In stock on November 11, 2006. Order it now.)

Another thing that was really cool is that you can be playing your single player missions and invite someone in for co-op. You don't have to shut down the single player and then start up a room. It's seamless. He just takes over one of the soldiers with you. Once he leaves, the comp takes back over for him. VERY NIIIIIICE!

alright so when is the first GoW multiplayer night.

Im adding everyone on the list to my friends list tonight.. maybe we can start a game tomorrow night?!

My gamer tag is TheEyeDoc

AND

that website did not cancel my order like I requested a week ago, so it shipped and will be here shortly. :excited:

I say we play tomorrow night around 10:00 p.m. est? Is that good for everyone? Wife watches Grey's until then.

For anyone who can't get a copy in a store I saw the game hit the usenet servers the other day.

Alias, You can probably get it on eBay cheap. Maybe for like 35-45 bucks.
Best Buy has a package deal:$100 for GoW and Live with headset package

meh

Is this a decent deal? My understanding is that I need this XBOX Live thing to get on the internet, right? And I have to subscribe and pay a fee?I am starting from scratch here. Haven't owned or played a console in a long time.

TIA

if I pass your guys strict entrance exam - I'm in.

* This is all depenedant if my daughter falls asleep at her normal time

She's decide to change her sleep habits to 10:30 at night, really cutting into my gaming

I am new to the LIVE part, but that is your subscription. roughly 50-60 bucks for 12 months of play. Some packages throw in a headset and 200 microsoft pts (which you can use to buy content).Bought a headset for PS2 to play football with a buddy years ago, think it was around $20.

so adding that all up, seems like a fair deal.

$60 game + $20 headset + $20 for 12 months + whatever the microsoft points are worth

When you buy a 360 it comes with a headset. Also comes with a free silver account. This enables you to download demos etc but not play against people on line.

The gold account you need to buy to play online. I think it's 50 bucks for a year than discounted for renewal.

GOW may come with a free trial code. This way you can try it out for a month or 2 before buying.

At that time you can purchase the gold going through your console, under account management.

Well XBOX LIve on it's own is about 50-60 bucks from what I can recall. The game is 60. So it will save you about 20-25 bucks after taxes. Not bad at all. XBOX Live is so innovating. I think about what gaming was like before it and it stinks. My favortie thing about Live is downloading demos of games before they come out. This way you don't waste your hard earned money on a turd of a game. Also the Live Arcade that lets you download classics for 5-10 bucks is awesome. Contra came out today for 400 points. Just remember that 80 MS points = 1 dollar. Basically if I wanted to tonight, I could play 2 player Contra with another buddy half way across the world. SWEET.

When you buy a 360 it comes with a headset.
true, some do and Otis don't you still need to pick up the system? I bought the basic.
no offense but you should have bought the premium, IMO.By the time you get the headset and memcard you are = premium. The memcard won't hold as much as the HDD either.See if you can return it :)SO anyone else picking up the system get the premium. just my :02:

JTG,The basic does not have a hard drive. You won't be able to save things. Did you just get it? I highly recommend the premium package.
Got it about 4 months ago. Lack of a hard drive hasn't come up yet. It will eventually. The traditional memory card has been more than enough for me so far.

I guess I have been totally been missing out for the past 4 months by NOT getting the premium.f'n X-box snobs. I knew I should have stuck to the warm conforts of Sony. ;)

Local Wal-Mart, KMart, and Shopko still don't have the games shelved.

Going to pick it up this afternoon if these bastards get off of their dead asses.
