Again, I think gay marriage is safe. Abortion though- that's something else. I wasn't really aware until this last year how much conservative Texas legislators were able to restrict access to abortion in that state. Trump is pledged to appoint judges willing to uphold such restrictions, so we could see a situation where in certain parts of the country it will be very difficult to get an abortion...

I disagree.  Judges are people.  They have clerks, who also happen to be people.  They have families, also people.  Judges like to project an image that they're above it all and are focused only on the meaning of the Constitution or the statutes they review, but that's a lie.  Just like everyone else they're influenced by the world around them.

With respect to abortion, the world hasn't really changed much in the past 40 years.  The number of pro-life people has remained fairly constant.  The arguments have stayed the same. The information has stayed largely the same.  The exposure to the issues has remained largely the same. It's reasonable to believe Roe could get overturned just by substituting in a justice or two with a different opinion.  Virtually every abortion case since Roe has been a 5-4 decision.

With respect to same-sex marriage, the world has changed dramatically in just the past 15 years or so.  Younger people support it by overwhelming margins.  Millions of people have attended same-sex weddings of family, friends, and co-workers.  It's all over the media in a way that abortion never has been.  I just don't see any way Obergefell gets overturned.  If Obergefell had reached the Court 15 years ago, it would have been decided 9-0 against same-sex marriage.   If it got reheard 15 years from now, I believe it would be decided 9-0 in favor of same-sex marriage.
The justices on his list of 20 disagree with Obergefell and many have done so publicly.

Regardless, it doesn't really matter.  He just tweeted that we should revoke citizenship or jail people for exercising the first amendment, so whatever.  It's just going to be an insane four years.

As a Hillary supporter I was wrong on what Americans want.  They don't want more social programs, the environment is not that  big of a deal, not everyone needs a college education.  People want lower taxes, not distribution of wealth, they want more money spent on the military, and they want jobs in america not overseas.  I had so many friends and family tell me that they voted for Trump because of his stand on taxes, military, jobs, immigration, they felt that no one cares about the middle class.  A. Good friend of mine told me that the Trump stock market rally has taken six months off of his retirement.

I don't believe that Hillary lost because of the emails etc., but the middle class said enough of the DNC platform of social programs, something for nothing approach.  The minority vote did't show up or doesn't care as much as we think.  I Agee Hillary was not a perfect candidate, but Trump had his past history also.
I've said it elsewhere, but the rising cost of healthcare is one item that I think pushed Trumo to victory.  The new rates, which showed shocking increases, were the real October surprise.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_Protection_Act_of_2005

ThFlag Protection Act of 2005 was a proposed United States federal law introduced by Senators Hillary Clinton and Robert Bennett. The law would have outlawed flag burning, and called for a punishment of one year in jail and a fine of $100,000.[1][2]

I feel like it's a wolf in sheeps clothing, telling us not to worry about SS marriage. That it's safe. We would really like to believe him (fully knowing we're making a deal with the devil given his past history of pathological lying). We proceed cautiously only to realize the truth when it's too late.

Three things - no, the law was specifically an attempt to cause flag burning to fall into "yelling fire in a crowded theater"; I wouldn't support that either; and Trump just recommended we strip people of citizenship for burning the flag.
I don't find your first point that persuasive -- any law that singles out burning the flag as compared to any other activity seems problematic to me.  The third point is decent but I'm still sticking with my original perspective that bringing up Hillary's bill is a sick burn.

A fourth:  Hillary Clinton is now an elderly retiree who apparently enjoys taking her dog for walks in the woods.  She is not some sort of foil or defense to Trump's insanity and corruption.

Okay, fourth: I also dislike Hillary clinton.

Clearly, the guy doesn't want to give up his 1st Amendment rights as a normal citizen.  He will go on television when he wants to speak as President.  Just like watching Westworld, you have to know which time period you're seeing, and Twitter is the big clue.

I'm in a SS marriage and have little to no concern. In fact, my nerves are probably calmer because Donald Trump won.

Well, with Trump's plan to improve infrastructure, hopefully a train ticket to a more civilized state with those services still intact will be pretty cheap!

I remember when she did this.  I was SO EFFING ANGRY.  It soured me on Clinton for, well, pretty much forever.  I think I understand what she was trying to do -- I think she was trying to stave off a constitutional amendment so offered this as a compromise.  But this is something you should NEVER "compromise" about.

I almost hate her decision on this MORE than Trump, because she should have known better.  GAH!  To my dying day, I'm convinced this is what turned progressives away from her.

Pence is not a moderate.  Sessions is not a moderate.

Trump has not provided a list of moderate justices for the SCOTUS.
Who cares?  It's not like Obama picked and nominated a bunch of moderates himself either.  That's how the game is played but now people are getting all hysterical over it?  This ridiculousness has to stop.  Seriously a bunch of fear-mongering going on in here.

That's my favorite response to "no, you're wrong."

"Who cares? Don't get so invested in this as to show me I'm wrong.  Get a life."

All I'm saying is that you guys are going WAAAAAAAYYYYY over the top in your rhetoric.  It's okay to be concerned, it's not okay to fear monger and panic over things that haven't even been done that you only THINK he might do.  He hasn't even been sworn in yet.

Only one of us is using all caps and extending a 3 letter word to 13 letters.

If the guy(or his people) is saying it...why shouldn't I believe he has a desire to implement it?  And if he doesn't mean it...how is he any different than any other politician?  Was there some sort of code book that we should have been looking at in regards to his rhetoric that explains exactly what he means before we voted him in?

Some of the stuff that Trump has said he might do is really pretty terrible.  I don't think it's an overreaction to get worried about the wall, the Muslim registry, jailing flag-burners, making #### up about winning the popular vote, profiteering from his office, and stuff like that.

I can imagine the reaction here if this had been Hillary's appointee...

New Treasury Secretary IS the American dream, rose from humble origins as the son of a Goldman Sachs banker to become a Goldman Sachs banker

She never would have appointed a Goldman Sachs guy in 100 years after the brouhaha about her speeches and you know it.
Ha oh. Not now, he supported Trump in 2016, he was a Hillary supporter in 2008.

In the defense of these folks and the presidents the number of people with the knowledge and capacity to run Treasury is really limited. It's not that crazy they always hail from Wall Street.

I repeat, Hillary would never ever have appointed a Goldman Sachs guy to run Treasury. Maybe someone else with Wall Street connections, but this nomination wouldn't have happened, as it would have resulted in a ####storm of bad press from both the left and right.

If you think Wall Street handed her scores of millions of dollars for free... well bless your lil' heart... the one who pays the piper calls the tune.

I agree with most of this, but it's just further proof of the underlying ignorance and underlying sexism Hillary faced in the campaign.  She was vilified for her Wall st ties but when Trump does it, just a yawn from those same Hillary haters.
