Official Hillary Clinton 2016 thread (9 Viewers)

My conclusion is that there has NEVER been any compelling evidence that Hillary Clinton is a corrupt person. There's a lot of smoke, mostly manufactured from outside, but no fire. So I don't regard her as corrupt.
Nobody ever forced Hillary Clinton to set up her own email server in exactly the way you would expect from someone trying to skirt record retention policies and the FOIA. She did that all by herself, and she had to go way out of her way to do it.

Also, nobody is forcing Bill Clinton to give paid speeches before entities that will reasonably expect to have business with the the executive branch during a Hillary administration. That is completely voluntary behavior on the part of the Clinton household.

Neither of those issues is any way manufactured by anybody other than the Clintons themselves.

Bernie was right! By a 78-18 margin, Americans think too much time is devoted to @HillaryClinton's emails.

The view is even shared by 60% of Republicans! lol.
Goawsh, even Paul Begala said that? Man that tide she is a`changin'.

- eta - and it's a Brock/Blumenthal Clinton SuperPac poll? Yeah, good stuff here.
If you think that we spend too much time talking about the scandals that follow Hillary around, there's a pretty easy solution to that -- get her out of the race and replace her with a less corrupt candidate. You don't get to support a crook and then complain when people talk about her crookedness.
All right. I'M SICK OF THIS!!!

I really like you Ivan, and that's probably why I've put up with your "Hillary is a crook" mantra for months now. Here's the thing- I used to think that Hillary was a crook too, or at least one seriously corrupt politician. There was a whole list of shady things she's been involved in ever since she appeared on the public scene. So it's pretty easy to assume that she's one awful person.

Except that every time I tried to learn the details of each one of these shady things, I found that there really wasn't anything to it. The pattern was always the same: a series of facts that look bad from afar until you look at them more closely in which they make much more sense, a bunch of accusations without any foundation, an assumption of guilt by partisan enemies (and sometimes non-partisan observers) which turns out to be completely unfounded.

My conclusion is that there has NEVER been any compelling evidence that Hillary Clinton is a corrupt person. There's a lot of smoke, mostly manufactured from outside, but no fire. So I don't regard her as corrupt.
Stop. No matter what anyone provides, you'll nod your head and agree that those are serious questions that need to be answered, or that she shouldn't have done that, or that her actions aren't avoiding the appearance of impropriety. Then two days later it will be in one ear and out the other, and you'll once again say she's clean as a whistle, complaining that everyone is just out to get her.

In 1991 Texas residents were banned by law from bringing firearms into restaurants. That same year, a mad man with an intent to kill as many people as possible, crashed his truck into a Lubys Cafeteria in Killeen. The man got out of his vehicle and shot 50 people, killing 23 of them. One of the survivors, Dr. Susan Gratia-Hupp, had left her gun in the parking lot and watched as her parents were executed in front of her. She was following the rules and obeying the law by leaving her gun in the car, right where the killer knew it would be. As Hupp describes in her own words, it was like shooting fish in a barrel. Everyone was defenseless.

Last night Hupp took on the latest arguments for gun control and reiterated the extremely dangerous situation people are in when they stand in gun free zones.

"I think Hillary Clinton should lead by example, they should disarm her entire security detail and that of her children and lets see what that looks like in a year from now and see how well that works out. If guns are the problem, someone needs to explain to me why don't see these mass shootings at places where there are thousands of guns in the hands of at least hundreds of law abiding citizens. I always think of the dreaded gun show. We don't see mass shootings at dreaded gun shows. We don't see mass shootings at NRA conventions. We see mass shootings in places where we have made guns illegal, where people can't protect themselves," Hupp said. "Why is Hillary Clinton's child's life worth more than mine? Why does she get to have armed protection for her family but she wants to take my armed protection away."

You don't get to mislabel candidates as crooks when they've never been charged with a crime and then complain when people allege that you're more interested in unfairly disparaging the candidate then talking about the issues.

Look, I don't like her too much myself, and I was genuinely troubled by the email stuff until I got a look at the first GOP debate. But the GOP has overplayed its hand when it comes to Clinton "scandals" time and time again. It can't possibly be a surprise that people are skeptical and tired of hearing about it. They do Aesop's Fables in elementary school, right? How did an entire political party miss the one about the boy crying wolf?
Logically, why should watching the GOP debate change your feelings about the email issue? There's nothing contradictory about thinking the Republican party is a giant dumpster fire right now and simultaneously thinking that Clinton behaved unethically, irresponsibly, and incompetently by setting up her own email server.
I suppose that's true. I should have instead said that it put the email scandal in perspective. And I wouldn't characterize the GOP field as a dumpster fire. That's how you describe something that is a contained disaster. The GOP presidential field is frightening, a genuine threat to this nation's well-being. If Hillary's campaign for president is the nation's best chance to avoid a Trump/Carson/Cruz presidency, then Hillary's campaign for president is far too important to be tripped up by my concerns about her email.

That's reasonable. I have no problem with people who are opting for Hillary as the lesser of two evils, and I agree with you that the GOP is seriously messed up right now.

Hillary's Super-Pac is going after the Benghazi committee which is puzzling since there is nothing there. What a waste of funds.
What an embarrassment this committee is. I hope Hillary makes them look like the fools they are. I think she will; can't wait.
This isn't a comment on the committee but it is amusing to see a political campaign politicize the politicization of a Congressional investigation.

Hillary has stated she has begged to testify, she has been dying to testify. Let her have her wish.

David Brock...
Ah there he is, The Ooze. That's funny isn't it - he's got an iron in this fire too. He was paying Blumenthal while Hillary and her friends were using him to gather intelligence in Libya. Now he's ginning up a political campaign to revenge on Congressmen who dare to raise his name. This is supposed to be a PAC in which people contribute to get Hillary elected President, right? Not a revenge machine for David Brock, Blumenthal and Hillary?

These people are just mired in conflicts of interest. A is paying B is paying C is paying D....

especially when there isn't anything to worry about

Of course there's stuff to worry about. She may say something that comes out wrong or sounds bad and it will be edited and used to embarrass her and hurt her credibility with the public. There are so many so eager to bring her down. She's got to be on her guard.

But I think she will do fine.

How about Hillary supporters turn this on its head - in this hearing she can show her composure, her executive demeanor, and her ability to lead. She has emails that show her good work as SOS, right? She can talk about that. She can show off her policy chops and explain her decisions in Libya. Take it as a positive. She has said she wants to testify - why?

how does her Super Pac attacking the committee help alleviate the potential of that happening exactly?

Yes, David Brock whose organization released the following statement in May of 2014 about Andrew Cuomo's use of private email:

“Government officials who use private email or untraceable text message to keep their dealings secret from the public that elects them and funds their salaries and whom they claim to represent must be held accountable for their conduct,” said CREW director Melanie Sloan. “If Governor Cuomo doesn’t want voters to know what he’s doing, maybe he is doing something he shouldn’t.”

IT'S A VAST RIGHT-WING CONSPIRACY!!!!!!!!!

So many different ways for the testimony to go tomorrow. The only thing for certain is it will not live up to expectations on either side.

I would love it if Gowdy opened the hearing by simply asking three questions:

1. Were you Head of the State Department on September 11, 2012, when the ambassador to Libya was murdered?

2. Did you conduct all of your government business on a private un-secured server?

3. Have you provided the committee with all emails/communications responsive to the Subpoena issues by Congress?

Thank you for your time Mrs. Clinton, that is all we need from you.

Take "all" out of question #2, and you're good to go.

"At this point, what difference does it make." It won't get any easier if she becomes POTUS. I would hope our POTUS would always know what to say.

That really would be a great question as-is.

According to CNN they're not going to ask her ANY questions about her private server. All of the questions will be devoted to Benghazi.

And that's what it should be about. The FBI and FOIA requests can be concerned with the emails. Good on Gowdy for maintaining his focus. It's really not his fault that this fell in his lap as a footnote.

Do you have a link for that? If so, that is surprising and a big concession. They had originally issued 130 questions to her about her server and had requested two separate hearings, one on the server and one on the Libyan issues. It was Hillary who had requested an all day session for that purpose rather than the split sessions.

Sorry no link. It was a report from a guy who got it from a member of the committee.

Not his fault? He pounced on it. It's 99% of what they've been talking about for weeks.

When you testify before committees you generally file a written statement and then read the statement as part of your testimony. You can be sure that Clinton's opening statement will highlight that this is her third (?) time testifying before a GOP-controlled committee regarding Benghazi, will cite the multiple statements in recent weeks about this being a political stunt, and will generally be carefully crafted to paint her in the most sympathetic light possible. If you ask her three yes/no questions you haven't made yourself look good or rehabilitated your image, you've given her an open mike for the articles and televised reports on the hearings.

Her actions and they way she handled it have created this monster whether you want to believe it or not. I don't know what the committee has been talking about so I'll take your word for it, but had emails been handed over appropriately and she been straight forward in handling it, they wouldn't have it as ammo against her

Well assuming he is out and without checking I'm guessing he is.....

...Sanders has a decent shot at a 45 foot jump shot as time expires to pull this thing off, but that's about it.

I will reiterate I think he blew it at the debate. I haven't checked the polls posted by Tim and Squizz but I would not be surprised if they are correct, because not only did Sanders not confront her he actually got behind her at one point.

So the Demo nomination is essentially Hillary's as of this moment, barring some bomb leaked by the FBI/IC.

Ichabod Crane and his committee better hope they land some serious shots on HRC tomorrow. If she runs rings around her Inquisitors tomorrow they won't have any punches left to throw and will have managed to just about completely inoculate her against future attacks.

Between her demolition of the field at the debate and Biden electing not to run today she's already on a roll. A good outcome tomorrow and she could be riding pretty high.
The committee cannot do anything to affect her politically, that is a canard and always has been. There were may be four things that could stop Hillary:

1. A GOP candidate who could pose some unusual problems for her. Rubio could be (or could have been) that, but that looks unlikely. Trump may have some play because it feeds the outsider vs establishment theme which Hillary seem vulnerable to but the guy is a nut and not a professional candidate. - Rubio can't get traction and Trump is Trump so likely OOL.

2. Biden joining the race. - Nope.

3. The FBI/DOJ/IC either acting on criminal charges or leaking some report of some kind that they recommend her being charged or censured somehow. - Still possible but the investigation may not be complete until after the 16 election anyway, and even so chances of such a thing are remote, like a hail mary pass.

4. Bernie wins IA, NH, NV, and then scores a major endorsement or three and gets traction in the South for Super Tuesday. - Possible still, but it's looking remote right now. He more or less got behind her at the debate. - Still TBD but remote.

In hindsight, if Hillary wins, this entire "email scandal" may turn out to be a stroke brilliance, instead of incompetence. Essentially, Hillary dangled the low hanging fruit of possibly violating an unclear document retention policy, something 99.9% of us do in our jobs every day, and got Republicans to wildly overplay their hand. GOP has essentially gone all in with a low pair when there are multiple face cards on the table.

Political brilliance, in hindsight.

In our job, that's hilarious.

You do all your work emails on a private server, never activate the Outlook account your company's IT guy provides, don't tell your boss you're taking money and doing business with vendors on the side via that personal account, one of those persons you're doing business with is a guy your boss told you explicitly not to do business with and in fact he can't even come in the building, that same guy uses an email handle that looks a lot like your company's putting himself out there that he is working for you which he does to make money for himself and connections of yours, you get sued multiple times, for 5 years you don't tell any of the parties suing you have a private account, you don't tell the judges, you get a subpoena when 4 people die in an accident your company was in, you don't tell the authorities about the documents, then they find out about your account, whereupon you destroy (not retain) over half the documents, then you tell them you destroyed the server.... only to have it seized by the FBI..... sure just another day at the office.

Where would you be at that point? Out of a job, banned by the industry, repeatedly fined for spoliation and contempt in multiple courts, and be facing jail time for lying to the FBI and whatever it was they were looking for on your server in the first place.

That's what would happen to any one of us.

In the BP litigation one of the BP employees got convicted of criminal obstruction and was sentenced to jail, for deleting texts, it's appealed and still in dispute, but that's what happens in real life when you destroy information in an investigation where people die. The employee claims they were innocuous or just duplicative of what could be found elsewhere. [edited]
Then it should have been easier for you to address them without deflection and without checking my notes or yours. What I posted above takes no checking of notes, that's real life. You could get canned just for any one of those things and maybe convicted.

Who are you and what have you done with the real Saints?

Ha adjusting to new reality as we cruise into our pre-Hillary-administration era?

- The only political effect I've seen from the committee was the Hillary snip where she ends her testimony on the 'what difference' deflection.

The emails have affected her, that's for sure, but that would be collateral damage from the committee and really she did that to herself. I would like to think people would learn things about our policy in Libya but my guess is both sides will stamp their feet and hum over all the bad parts and crow about all the 'good' parts. One side will claim deception by Hillary and the other will claim political hit job. - I would like to see people examine what we have done over in Libya 2010-now and conclude she and we acted poorly and foolishly, but typically people who are against intervention and regime change are Democrats... who are the least likely to criticize their golden ticket. Meanwhile Republicans mostly want a gotcha moment where it's revealed that Obama and Hillary secretly switched Rice's powerpoint slides to deceive the world. So I'm sure politically for the political class it will be a wash but maybe for the history books we will get something.

:lmao: :lmao: HFS TGunz...you're gold man...pure gold.

That you think what she has been accused of doing is close to what any of us do in our jobs every day is pure gold....don't ever change.

So now that Biden is out...

When can Clinton expect that Obama endorsement? 1-2 weeks before Iowa sound about right to everyone?
