My conclusion is that there has NEVER been any compelling evidence that Hillary Clinton is a corrupt person. There's a lot of smoke, mostly manufactured from outside, but no fire. So I don't regard her as corrupt.

Nobody ever forced Hillary Clinton to set up her own email server in exactly the way you would expect from someone trying to skirt record retention policies and the FOIA. She did that all by herself, and she had to go way out of her way to do it.

Also, nobody is forcing Bill Clinton to give paid speeches before entities that will reasonably expect to have business with the the executive branch during a Hillary administration. That is completely voluntary behavior on the part of the Clinton household.

Neither of those issues is any way manufactured by anybody other than the Clintons themselves.

If you think that we spend too much time talking about the scandals that follow Hillary around, there's a pretty easy solution to that -- get her out of the race and replace her with a less corrupt candidate. You don't get to support a crook and then complain when people talk about her crookedness.

I really like you Ivan, and that's probably why I've put up with your "Hillary is a crook" mantra for months now. Here's the thing- I used to think that Hillary was a crook too, or at least one seriously corrupt politician. There was a whole list of shady things she's been involved in ever since she appeared on the public scene. So it's pretty easy to assume that she's one awful person.

Except that every time I tried to learn the details of each one of these shady things, I found that there really wasn't anything to it. The pattern was always the same: a series of facts that look bad from afar until you look at them more closely in which they make much more sense, a bunch of accusations without any foundation, an assumption of guilt by partisan enemies (and sometimes non-partisan observers) which turns out to be completely unfounded.

Stop. No matter what anyone provides, you'll nod your head and agree that those are serious questions that need to be answered, or that she shouldn't have done that, or that her actions aren't avoiding the appearance of impropriety. Then two days later it will be in one ear and out the other, and you'll once again say she's clean as a whistle, complaining that everyone is just out to get her.

You don't get to mislabel candidates as crooks when they've never been charged with a crime and then complain when people allege that you're more interested in unfairly disparaging the candidate then talking about the issues.

Look, I don't like her too much myself, and I was genuinely troubled by the email stuff until I got a look at the first GOP debate. But the GOP has overplayed its hand when it comes to Clinton "scandals" time and time again. It can't possibly be a surprise that people are skeptical and tired of hearing about it. They do Aesop's Fables in elementary school, right? How did an entire political party miss the one about the boy crying wolf?

Logically, why should watching the GOP debate change your feelings about the email issue? There's nothing contradictory about thinking the Republican party is a giant dumpster fire right now and simultaneously thinking that Clinton behaved unethically, irresponsibly, and incompetently by setting up her own email server.

When you testify before committees you generally file a written statement and then read the statement as part of your testimony. You can be sure that Clinton's opening statement will highlight that this is her third (?) time testifying before a GOP-controlled committee regarding Benghazi, will cite the multiple statements in recent weeks about this being a political stunt, and will generally be carefully crafted to paint her in the most sympathetic light possible. If you ask her three yes/no questions you haven't made yourself look good or rehabilitated your image, you've given her an open mike for the articles and televised reports on the hearings.

I will reiterate I think he blew it at the debate. I haven't checked the polls posted by Tim and Squizz but I would not be surprised if they are correct, because not only did Sanders not confront her he actually got behind her at one point.

So the Demo nomination is essentially Hillary's as of this moment, barring some bomb leaked by the FBI/IC.

The committee cannot do anything to affect her politically, that is a canard and always has been. There were may be four things that could stop Hillary:

1. A GOP candidate who could pose some unusual problems for her. Rubio could be (or could have been) that, but that looks unlikely. Trump may have some play because it feeds the outsider vs establishment theme which Hillary seem vulnerable to but the guy is a nut and not a professional candidate. - Rubio can't get traction and Trump is Trump so likely OOL.

2. Biden joining the race. - Nope.

3. The FBI/DOJ/IC either acting on criminal charges or leaking some report of some kind that they recommend her being charged or censured somehow. - Still possible but the investigation may not be complete until after the 16 election anyway, and even so chances of such a thing are remote, like a hail mary pass.

4. Bernie wins IA, NH, NV, and then scores a major endorsement or three and gets traction in the South for Super Tuesday. - Possible still, but it's looking remote right now. He more or less got behind her at the debate. - Still TBD but remote.

In our job, that's hilarious.

You do all your work emails on a private server, never activate the Outlook account your company's IT guy provides, don't tell your boss you're taking money and doing business with vendors on the side via that personal account, one of those persons you're doing business with is a guy your boss told you explicitly not to do business with and in fact he can't even come in the building, that same guy uses an email handle that looks a lot like your company's putting himself out there that he is working for you which he does to make money for himself and connections of yours, you get sued multiple times, for 5 years you don't tell any of the parties suing you have a private account, you don't tell the judges, you get a subpoena when 4 people die in an accident your company was in, you don't tell the authorities about the documents, then they find out about your account, whereupon you destroy (not retain) over half the documents, then you tell them you destroyed the server.... only to have it seized by the FBI..... sure just another day at the office.

Where would you be at that point? Out of a job, banned by the industry, repeatedly fined for spoliation and contempt in multiple courts, and be facing jail time for lying to the FBI and whatever it was they were looking for on your server in the first place.

That's what would happen to any one of us.

You do all your work emails on a private server, never activate the Outlook account your company's IT guy provides, don't tell your boss you're taking money and doing business with vendors on the side via that personal account, one of those persons you're doing business with is a guy your boss told you explicitly not to do business with and in fact he can't even come in the building, that same guy uses an email handle that looks a lot like your company's putting himself out there that he is working for you which he does to make money for himself and connections of yours, you get sued multiple times, for 5 years you don't tell any of the parties suing you have a private account, you don't tell the judges, you get a subpoena when 4 people die in an accident your company was in, you don't tell the authorities about the documents, then they find out about your account, whereupon you destroy (not retain) over half the documents, then you tell them you destroyed the server.... only to have it seized by the FBI..... sure just another day at the office.

Where would you be at that point? Out of a job, banned by the industry, repeatedly fined for spoliation and contempt in multiple courts, and be facing jail time for lying to the FBI and whatever it was they were looking for on your server in the first place.

That's what would happen to any one of us.

In the BP litigation one of the BP employees got convicted of criminal obstruction and was sentenced to jail, for deleting texts, it's appealed and still in dispute, but that's what happens in real life when you destroy information in an investigation where people die. In hindsight, if Hillary wins, this entire "email scandal" may turn out to be a stroke brilliance, instead of incompetence. Essentially, Hillary dangled the low hanging fruit of possibly violating an unclear document retention policy, something 99.9% of us do in our jobs every day, and got Republicans to wildly overplay their hand. Then it should have been easier for you to address them without deflection and without checking my notes or yours. What I posted above takes no checking of notes, that's real life. You could get canned just for any one of those things and maybe convicted.

Ha adjusting to new reality as we cruise into our pre-Hillary-administration era?

- The only political effect I've seen from the committee was the Hillary snip where she ends her testimony on the 'what difference' deflection.

The emails have affected her, that's for sure, but that would be collateral damage from the committee and really she did that to herself. I would like to think people would learn things about our policy in Libya but my guess is both sides will stamp their feet and hum over all the bad parts and crow about all the 'good' parts. One side will claim deception by Hillary and the other will claim political hit job. - I would like to see people examine what we have done over in Libya 2010-now and conclude she and we acted poorly and foolishly, but typically people who are against intervention and regime change are Democrats... who are the least likely to criticize their golden ticket. Meanwhile Republicans mostly want a gotcha moment where it's revealed that Obama and Hillary secretly switched Rice's powerpoint slides to deceive the world. So I'm sure politically for the political class it will be a wash but maybe for the history books we will get something.
