Look it's terrible what happened.  I feel bad for everyone that lost their home or was affected.  However, I said the same thing during Katrina and I'll say it now.  The entire city is surrounded by water.  And the city is lower than the water that surrounds it.  It's just a bad idea and a disaster waiting to happen.  And it also causes huge infrastructure problems on top of the ticking time bomb of flooding damage.  I do think it's ironic Bush was criticized so much for doing nothing while Obama sits on a golf course all week and is basically given a free pass.  But unless either one of them can raise the city +100 feet or change the laws of gravity I don't know what you expect them to do from a flooding prevention standpoint.

Captain Cranks in the Trump thread has offered a great reason for everyone here who does not like Donald Trump to vote for Hillary Clinton: because the repudiation of everything Trump stands for needs to be as large as possible. I agree with this argument. 

This is not fear mongering. Commish, NC Commish, Saints, those of you who are planning on voting for Gary Johnson, or Jill Stein, or sitting this one out- your vote isn't needed; she's going to win anyway. But the more votes she gets, the more Trump will be completely rejected and we can show the world we don't accept his ignorance and bigotry.

This is a seriously stupid argument.  You're literally saying that by not voting for Donald Trump -- by actively casting my vote for another candidate -- I'm somehow failing to reject Donald Trump.  That's idiotic.

No it isn't. The media, the public, and the world will view the size of Trump's defeat by the size of Hillary's victory. These are the only numbers that will matter afterwards.

Again, that's idiotic.  If Trump gets 35% of the vote (say), that's a repudiation by any non-idiotic standard.  

I'd far rather see the vote come out 36% D / 35% R / 29% L than 65% D / 35% R. That first outcome would be pretty awesome actually.

 
Ivan that first out come is never going to happen. The libertarians will never get above 10%, more likely 3-4%. But even if that did happen it would be seen as a victory for Trump. The closer Clinton and Trump are the more it will be perceived as a "win" for Trump's movement. 

The only way Trump gets crushed is a crushing victory for Hillary. And no matter how many times you or anyone else call this argument idiotic it remains the truth.

Best repudiation would be Gary Johnson winning.

we not only need to repudiate Trump, we need to repudiate Hillary's war mongering and aggression against other countries around the globe.  If we repudiate xenophobia and not militaristic aggression, then that is useless.  90% of Turkey, according to polls, believes that the United States is behind the failed coup; and why wouldn't they?   Is that what we want to the world to beleive of us? 

if we can keep trump and Hillary under 40, that would be a start.   Get them both under 40 and we may see waves of defectors from evil head to the polls to vote Johnson.

 
If only people were smart enough to reject both these clowns.  As bad as Trump is, Hillarty makes a mockery out the idea that our government has integrity.

You still completely misunderstand Trump and his unique  danger to our society. 

 
The only thing a large Hillary victory would do is create a false narrative that she has a mandate.  America rejecting Trump and his ideas will be solely based on the % of votes he receives, if he is at 35% it makes no difference how the remaining 65% is divided up relative to how his support (or lack thereof) is viewed.

 
The way the president ages, Hillary will be a drooling Alzheimer's patient by the 4th year.

Bush had the impossible choice - show up and disrupt the efforts (exacerbated by so few cleared roads getting in), not show up at all, or do a reconnaissance from the air.  He chose the latter, which, IMO was the right choice.  I will say the Feds did much more than nothing.  It took a bit to get organized, but once they did heaven and earth moved to NO.

Obama choosing golf over flood victims is, well, typical.

Seriously. It's why I can't stand "hold-your-nose" voters- you don't get to check a box saying "I'm not voting for this candidate, I'm voting against the other one". When Hillary destroys Trump, the Dems/DNC will obviously take that as vindication for not only their candidate but their tactics during this election, so why would they change anything in the future? If anything, they're going to double down since it worked so "well" this time around.

It really baffles me how so many people don't see this (Bernie supporters especially). I get it, Trump is Hitler, but he isn't going to sniff victory, and your vote isn't going to change the outcome of this election. IMO, if you actually want anything to change, you certainly don't want to see a blowout win for Hillary.

The only people that will view things in this manner are the simple thinkers who's opinion shouldn't be valued in the first place....especially with the electoral college in place.  Why would we, as Americans, care what those sorts of people think?  You're attempting to deploy a tactic grown ups use to try and form child behavior.  "You better do X or everyone is going to think you're a weirdo".  That's a position of weakness and lazy thinking.  I won't do that with my kids, why would I do it with anyone else?

I have quite a few intentional friends and yes, they view Trump as a joke.  They also see Hillary's deficiencies and ties to colonialism and corruption.  So that big Hillary win may very well satisfy your agenda, but it won't put the US back on any hill.

Edit: People can be conditioned to fall for anything.  True story: I knew a guy who's doctor told him that he had to put his finger in his butt.  Every year he fell for this.  The doctor told him it had something to do with "his prostate"... Can you believe someone would fall for that --every year!!!
