He backtracked on the transgender bathroom thing and said to leave it up to the states. He also is on record saying his SCOTUS appointments will overturn the gay marriage decision.

Yw. A very scary time for me today. Crazy ... Since my daughter was born 5 years ago, I never felt threatened for her, or our family. I guess I got spoiled with Obama and it never crossed my mind that all of that progress could very well be taken from me. How do I ever explain this to a 5 yo?

She's 5, a girlie girl. She's been dreaming about our wedding. Mainly because she wants to wear a dress. She's already picked out our dresses. And, the setting ?

She asked a few weeks ago, when we plan to get married. If SS is overturned, I will definitely share with her. It's the unfortunate reality my family faces.

You should have to, now, as she's 5.  Trump will be in office till she's 9, though, so it may very well come up later.  In talking with a friend of mine with a young daughter, their idea was to turn this into a teaching moment - "the country was upset (about other things if she asks why they were upset), and this is the choice they made when they were upset.  This is why we think about the choices we make, and to try to not make decisions like this when we are upset."  Just my $.02

Yep. And I think that the left tried to use PC culture to keep a lid on that next step. Which also explains why the alt right keeps taking a bazooka to it, and are making it a point to offend because they rightly see it as a roadblock to their cause.

I'm not saying I'm going home tonight to talk to her about this. But if something does change, yes. She will know. 

I've sheltered her from this political mess so far, and I continue to do so moving forward. Unless we are unable to marry again. She'll learn why.

If you live in a state where same sex marriage is already legal, I don't think you'll have much to worry about. I can't see that changing any time soon, I don't think it'll change at all. I don't think opposing same sex marriage was a high priority deal for him or a good deal of the people who ended up voting for him. I'd be much more concerned if I was Muslim or an illegal alien.

 
Guy I work with's wife is a principal at a local elementary school.

Tons of kids crying at school today; their parents are immigrants and they're scared they'll get thrown out of the country.

Way to go America.

Ohio never legalized ss marriage until the scotus ruling in 2015. If trump does what he intends, he wants to appoint a justice who would protect religious freedom and overturn the 2015 ruling to leave it up to the states.

To be fair, Trump won a significant portion of the female voters. As to the LGBTQ community,

I doubt that is really something that Trump will consider a high priority. Is there really a problem with unisex bathrooms (so long as you can close a stall door and have privacy)? I would say no, so long as the people using them aren't animals. However, letting pre- pubescent kids decide which bathroom they use is over-reaching. Transitioning to unisex bathrooms or to having a unisex bathroom along with one for females and another for males is a better way to go than what Obama dictated.

Then you might want to consider moving to a state that explicitly legalized same sex marriage. I know that's a huge deal. Or get married as soon as possible in your current state. I figure it'd be tough to reverse existing marriage contracts without some serious legal effort, but IANAL, so maybe get advice from one of those to be safe.

Legal?  Is it that hard to explain rules to kids?  Took me 10 minutes to explain the difference to mine. 

 
She is a bad campaigner. Was a heavy favorite in '08 and got beaten by Obama. Huge favorite to get nomination this time and a 70 year old independent took her to the wire. And then she loses to the worst gop candidate in memory and loses democratic strongholds. 

Biden should have ran. Or Booker. 

Oh well.

Would a 5 year old even understand?  I certainly hope that the SCOTUS decision will not be overturned, even though I still strongly believe that legal/contractual unions need to be separated from spiritual ones. I seriously don't see that happening.

Just a side note:

- I have nothing but respect for Beavers and how she is feeling. However, we have put so much power in the hands of the president and the USSC that every change of presidential control is met with jaws agape and angst-ridden expressions like this.

We're not supposed to have whole lives hanging in the balance because ONE person takes over ONE office in this country.

Obama ALONE should not have been responsible for policies like this. Trump ALONE should not be responsible for changing it back. Congress and legislatures should be places where we come together as a people in our state or nations to make decisions like these, together.

We are basically voting for our USSC, which is not how it should be.
