*** Official Jaguars Thread - Team Putting #DTWD to The Test *** (3 Viewers)

Awful news. I loved watching this kid's highlights and his gold shoes at the draft were awesome.

Bad break for the Jags and for him.

Aside from it happening to a star QB, this is about as deflating as it gets in terms of injury.

Feel bad for Jags fans. I really like the direction they seem to be going to.

Yep. They are an organization that seems to be making all the right moves, just can't catch a break.

In the big picture it's not a terrible thing. They'll get a better pick next year and Fowler should recover completely by the start of next season. Sucks that it happened right after the draft but it's actually better now than week 1.

All true, but man, Jags fans have to be so sick of already looking to next year before June.

Seriously messed up about Fowler, condolences to JAX fans. He could still be a good one, but bummer to have to wait a year to reap the dividends. Maybe the defense will be in a collectively better place by then, so he may be better positioned at that time to be even more effective and impactful?

JAX has had some bad luck between this, and for different reasons (and probably forgetting some), Blackmon, Gabbert, Soward, etc. Not sure, but a 1.3 going on IR before the season starts may be one of the earlist pedigree that has happened to since Ki-Jana Carter. He went #1 overall to CIN exactly two decades ago, tore his ACL in the third carry of the first preseason game and was never the same (I think that was the last time a RB went first overall - in '05, exactly one decade ago, Ronnie Brown went #2 overall to MIA, and along with Cedric Benson [#4] to CHI and Cadillac Williams [#5] to TB, three RBs in the top 5).

Damn, this sucks. I'm a drifter of a fan and I was thinking about committing to a three-year adoption of the Jaguars.

... Ive thought about it. I'm still in and I'm committing to a three year agreement with an option to renew for two years at no cost.

I hope I remember posting this. I should probably buy a jersey, as a reminder next week when it arrives in the mail.

Smoking hot take from Amani Tooner on SiriusNFl this morning: the Fowler injury is such a serious blow to the Jags that it imperils Gus Bradley’s job.

My argument would be that an injury to Yeldon would be far worse for Gus’ job. Goal #1 this year is to see Bortles improve. Better OL and running game helps take you there.

I somewhat agree with Amani. Defense is Bradley's bread and butter. I happen to think that there are some pretty good tools to work with on D. Would be much better with Fowler, but it is what it is.But if I am being honest, his job rests on the growth of BB. Anything close to last year and he's done.

Jags had a terrific free agency IMO. Added a ton of talent to the roster. The Alabama RB they got will be good. The wildcard is the O line, needs to improve and gel. The defense was going to be better with or without Fowler. I think people are too quick to bury them.

Fowler getting injured isn't Bradley's fault - using the #3 pick on Bortles and him not developing into a franchise QB is.

Bradley understands this and that's why he's surrounded Bortles with everything he needs to succeed.

I agree with this. Bradley can't control that Fowler went down. That's just plain bad luck. If they are looking to blame him for that, they are just looking for a scape goat.

Bortles on the other hand must improve. He regressed as the season went on because he played too early and their oline was garbage.

Gene Frenette: Blake Bortles Works to Improve His Craft.

Its been a mixture of good news (a free agent signing class highlighted by tight end Julius Thomas, late-round steals in the NFL draft) and bad news (Dante Fowlers torn anterior cruciate ligament) for the Jaguars this offseason, but the best news for the franchise might be what took place when the public wasnt looking.

Blake Bortles decided to get serious about pushing himself toward becoming a long-term success as the Jaguars quarterback. He committed to a two-month tutoring program in Southern California with 3DQB, a group of motion analysis specialists that has assisted dozens of NFL quarterbacks, including Tom Brady, for the past several years.

For what its worth, one of those quarterback whisperers the one who spent the most time working with Bortles thinks a significantly better player will emerge than the rookie who struggled in 2014.

This offseason, Blake did everything he could to improve his craft, said Adam Dedeaux, one of three primary instructors with 3DQB, which was founded over a decade ago by former major-league pitcher Tom House. Its not just about working hard, but smart, making sure everything you do has a purpose.

Blake really worked smart this offseason. He now has a process thats going to work for him to be successful, which is the main goal. His attention to detail, wanting to get better, his expectations of himself, are right there with the best. I know hes taking that into training camp. The dude got after it.

For context purposes, 3DQB essentially provides an instructional manual for quarterbacks on how to prepare their body for in-game competition. House, Dedeaux and former NFL quarterback John Beck look at each clients four-legged table bio-mechanics, conditioning, nutrition and mental/emotional approach to handling football stress and try to give them a recipe for success in those areas.

Its not so much about Xs and Os with 3DQB. Its about quarterbacks physically and mentally preparing their bodies to be fundamentally sound on game day. Each client takes a profile test, describing how they view themselves, before the real workouts begin.

The consensus opinion after Bortles sub-par rookie season his 69.5 quarterback rating was the NFLs lowest is he needed a lot of work on mechanics and footwork.

Every client is different, but what we do is re-wire the neurological side of their body to make them more functional, Dedeaux said. It takes time to re-wire. It takes reps. With Blake, it was by no means a complete overhaul.

Bortles, who altered his nutrition habits and dropped from 250 pounds to 238, did a lot of research before formulating his offseason plan. He talked with several NFL quarterbacks who spoke highly of House and 3DQB. His pre-draft mentor, former Jaguars quarterback Jordan Palmer, also gave it a thumbs-up.

Bortles went to the USC campus in February on a one-week trial basis and liked it so much that he stayed until April. During his time with 3DQB, teammates Marqise Lee, Allen Hurns and Thomas showed up and he threw passes to them at different intervals.

Without getting too technical, I knew from looking at Blake the first day how we were going to help him get better, said Dedeaux, a former USC pitcher and grandson of the late baseball legend Rod Dedeaux, who coached the Trojans to 11 national championships. Theres a science behind what we do that separates us from everybody else. I believe were the only bio-mechanics instructors. We condition a quarterbacks body better than anybody.

The improvement Blake showed over two months was really encouraging. He has a better understanding of where velocity and accuracy come from. We are movement specialists. Some guys come to us for 2 percent [improvement], some for 10 percent. Teams are teaching them offense and the drops that go with certain plays. We just clean up to make sure their movements are crisp.

Dedeaux, who also pitched in the minor leagues for the Los Angeles Dodgers, is Houses main protégé. House, a journeyman relief pitcher known best for catching Hank Aarons then-record 715th home run in the Atlanta Braves bullpen, acquired a reputation as a quarterback guru and has a PhD in sports performance/psychology. Beck, who still plays in the CFL, came aboard 18 months ago, and all three spend various amounts of time with each quarterback.

The 3DQB group has worked extensively with Brady, Drew Brees, Andy Dalton, Geno Smith and Tim Tebow. Others like Joe Flacco and Eli Manning come in on a short-term basis or whenever they need a tune-up. Before Tebows workout and subsequent signing with the Philadelphia Eagles, he did some refresher work with 3DQB and also had Dedeaux come to Jacksonville for a private session.

Bortles will return to 3DQB in late June after the Jaguars mandatory minicamp is completed. House, the performance psychologist specialist, often checks in with his quarterbacks during the season to make sure they stay on the right path mechanically.

Given the performance levels of 3DQB clients, ranging from Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks to journeymen struggling to keep starting jobs, theres no guarantee Bortles will transform into a perennial Pro Bowler.

But if youre the Jaguars, what matters is the franchise quarterback is sending a message that hes willing to invest the time into being the best version of himself. Its a sign of maturity that Bortles took the initiative to identify an offseason plan of action toward becoming a successful quarterback.

As former Jaguars quarterback Mark Brunell told me in January, before Bortles hooked up with 3DQB: The respect you gain from [teammates] seeing you outwork everybody else is as important as anything you get from watching film.

Bortles future remains a complete unknown. But the comforting thing for the Jaguars is their leader understands theres no shortcuts to greatness.

Sen'Derrick Marks gets it. Three weeks ago, he took a cancer patient to her prom. She passed away over the weekend.

"It puts things in perspective," Marks said. "What we do is tough, but it's entertainment. That's all it is. Pure entertainment. There's a whole world going on outside that a lot of people in this business don't know about. They're so stuck in this business, because it gives you so many perks. So much fame and glorifies you so much. What the hell are we glorified for? Look at her. She has to be strong. There are so many people going through that."

Twitter is rife with rumors that Curtis Dvorak, the man inside the cat suit, may be retiring as Jaxon DaVille. Huge loss if true.

@TonyKhan: Per @fbgchase, the only running backs in @NFL history with >4.6 yards per carry & >2500 career carries are @FredTaylorMade & @BarrySanders

Let's stop :deadhorse:

General manager David Caldwell said Tuesday the Jaguars have had no contact with Blackmon and believe his absence from the game for 21 months makes it unlikely the former first-round pick will ever play in the NFL again.

Suspended indefinitely following his third violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, Justin Blackmon hasn't practiced or played since Week 8 of the 2013 season.

"I have not heard anything and I guess I harbor a little bit of hope but realistically I think when you're away from the game for two-and-a-half years what you were once is not what you probably will be," Caldwell said. "Your skills do erode and especially if you're not staying in tip-top shape and you're not in football shape.

"I don't know to expect but I would say common sense would probably be if you haven't played football in two-and-a-half years apparently that's not a priority for you."

August 5, 2015A lot of positives about Bortles so far though is getting good reviews especially from GM Dave Caldwell

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jacksonville Jaguars general manager David Caldwell knew when he drafted quarterback Blake Bortles that the former Central Florida standout was going to have to make some changes and fix some mechanics issues before he could become a good quarterback.

Though it’s only four practices into Bortles’ second training camp, Caldwell said he sees a marked difference in the player he took with the third overall pick last year.

"From where he’s at now compared to where he came in last year as a rookie, I think it’s night and day," Caldwell said.

He wasn’t just talking about Bortles overhauled throwing motion, either, though that is a big part of the changes. Bortles worked throughout the offseason with throwing coach Tom House and quarterback coach Jordan Palmer and shortened his delivery -- he’s no longer dropping the ball below his waist in his windup -- and lengthened his follow-through.

He also cleaned up some footwork issues, developed a warm-up routine, and learned the proper way to care for his arm to avoid the shoulder issues and fatigue that he experienced at the end of the 2014 season.

Caldwell said he has noticed a difference in Bortles’ demeanor, too.

"From the day he stepped on the practice field last year to the first day of training camp this year his ease of throwing motion, the tightness of his ball, the compactness of his motion, the quicker release, the footwork, the balance -- all those things I think are better," Caldwell said. "And just his overall presence. He’s comfortable now.

A bunch of people out for the Jags tonight including Yeldon and Marqise Lee.

I want to see how Arrelious Benn looks considering the glowing camp reviews he's been getting.
