*** Official Jaguars Thread - Team Putting #DTWD to The Test *** (3 Viewers)

Extremely happy for you Jags homers.  You guys deserve this success and it has to be exciting knowing that the addition of a good QB could make your squad championship contenders.  Selfishly I’d love to see Rivers traded to Jax and he could end his career with some deep playoff runs%

Not the betting type at all but laid down some money on them to win Super Bowl......this year. Let's go Jags

If anyone is going to stop Brady outside father time this year in the AFC, it's going to be the Jags IMO.

Flacco won a Super Bowl too somehow.  Stranger things have happened.

Jax just traded for Marcellus Dareus..Jesus they are stacked on defense. Glad I own their defense in all my leagues.
From overthecap.com.  The worries about his cap hit are overinflated IMO. They can get out of the contract after '18.

The move is a salary cap savings bonanza for the Bills assuming they did not have to prepay any of the contract. Dareus still had $5,735,294 in cap charges this year to be paid by the Bills and another $7.35 million guaranteed to him in 2018 when he was certain to be released. So the team saved just under $13.1 million and got a draft pick back to boot for a player with 1 sack and 4 tackles on the year. Of course its not all great news for the Bills who will carry $14.2 million in dead money next year for Dareus, but compared to the alternative it is by far the best case scenario.

The Jaguars have, more or less, an unlimited budget and cap room to use which makes a trade like this not very risky. Jacksonville’s defense has been very good this year and Dareus should not be asked to be much more than a situational player. On top of that he can fill in in the event of injury for one of the other veterans. Perhaps a change of scenery will do him well and help him find some motivation, something he has completely lacked since signing the big contract in 2015. The only real caution for Jacksonville here is doing an early extension thinking they could get him on the cheap as that is putting a great deal of stock in him playing better.

He will count for $5.735 million on the Jaguars cap this year and $10.175 million next year. The 2018 guarantee of $7.35 million transfers to the Jaguars so if they were to release him they would have to pay him that money minus any offset from his signing with another team.
Other thoughts on Dareus-

- Aside from his past with Marrone, I hope the Jags did their due dilligence about Dareus' willingness towards a trade especially after the Branden Albert fiasco.

- This week is his second bye of the year. Which team pays him his missing check?

- At least Dareus gets to keep more take home pay with no state income tax in Florida. NY state income tax is 6.85%

According to Joe, it should be a real SlobberKnocker on Sunday.

Cincinnati Bengals Rushing Offense at Jacksonville Jaguars Rushing Defense (Good Matchup)

Jacksonville Jaguars Rushing Offense vs Cincinnati Bengals Rushing Defense (Neutral Matchup)

Cincinnati Bengals Passing Offense at Jacksonville Jaguars Passing Defense (Bad Matchup)

Jacksonville Jaguars Passing Offense vs Cincinnati Bengals Passing Defense (Bad Matchup)

I thought the Bengals rushing offense rating was justified. The Jaguars HAVE been susceptible to the big rushing play. However, I thought it would have been nice if the writeup at least noted somehow that the rush defense concerns prompted the trade for Marcell Dareus.

Relatively healthy coming off the bye. I am really interested in seeing how they look out of the gate.

An Everbank official just said after leaving the field, Jalen Ramsey tried to get to AJ Green in the Visitors' LR. JSO had to get him away

So we are halfway through the schedule and this team has far exceeded my expectations. I saw about 5 wins coming from this team and obviously that’s already been met.

Offense: The Jags have forged their identity. Run the ball whenever they can. Keep 3rd downs to a short distance. Don’t turn the ball over. Run some misdirection to help clean up the loaded box. Simple, yet effective. They are 9th in the league in total offense despite their passing woes. And it’s not just Fournette. They done well in the two games he’s missed.

QB: Bortles has put together two good games now and in all has more positive games than negative. For this team to win, he needs to not turn it over and just manage the games. He’s been doing that for the most part. For me, the biggest step he’s made this year is his decision making. For the most part he’s showing pretty good awareness back there and that’s not something that can be said up until this year. He still needs to be replaced, but they are showing that they can at least win games with him back there.

O-Line: The play of the O-line has been outstanding. In past years, much of the sacks that were given up were on Bortles’ shoulders. They’ve protected well, even with the loss of their best lineman for 3 games and their LT and RG going down. Speaking of LT, I have no idea how on earth Cam Robinson fell to the 2nd round. The guy is an amazing upgrade over Beachum/Joeckel. He total solidified the line. Linder, Omameh, Shatley (Shatley?!), Cann, and Parnell have all played well.

RB: Obviously Leo Fournette is the goods and the team has a new identity due in large part to his presence. After his benching yesterday, I think he probably needs to focus on being a pro, but who knows what really happened. I hope this is a one time thing. He’s so physical, I do wonder how much pounding he can take/dish out. Ivory has been decent. Yeldon has played well in the limited time he’s played. He does need to hold on to the ball though.

WR: Marqise Lee and his two left hands seem to be always open. Wish he had better hands. I think this is his last year here and that Westbrook was drafted for this reason. Hurns continues to look average and the stats are reflective of that. There is something there with Keelan Cole. He’s completely raw, but if he takes steps forward, he can produce. Allen Robinson’s situation will be interesting to watch. In regard to his financial future, he really got hurt at the worst possible time. I’m hoping he’ll be back next year, at least on a one-year prove it deal. But some team might bet on AR and give him a long-term deal. I hope he’s back next year.

TE: Marcedes Lewis has played well this year. His value as a blocker is still there and he’d have a few more touchdowns if the passes weren’t off target. Lewis is the Jaguars longest tenured player and it’s time to draft his replacement next year.

K: So happy Meyers was cut. Lambo has been perfect thus far. He’ll miss some kicks, but I’m not holding my breath prior to every kick now.

Defense: This is the best defense in the league. I thought they’d be good, but OH LAAAWD. I did not expect the new additions to make such a difference. The pass defense is on another level. The run defense sits near the bottom of the league , but I am hoping that’s been addressed. There are a couple of fluke plays that have affected this, too. There’s room for improvement here too. Crazy.

LB: Telvin gets better and better every year. He deserves every penny of that extension. Myles Jack gets better every game it seems. SOOO much speed between these two. Poz is Poz at this point.

DB’s: Lord Ramsey rules these lands. And if it wasn’t for him, AJ Bouye would be the talk of the town. Another guy that’s worth every red cent. Gipson is playing well now that suck hole, wrong angle Johnathan Cyprien is polluting someone else’s defense. Barry Church is a perfect complement to this defense. So steady.

DL: DEEP, TALENTED. I have no words to describe what Calais Campbell has meant to this team. Even taking away his 11 (ELEVEN!) sacks, he’s positively affected the entire team with his leadership and work ethic. He’s been nothing short of amazing. Yannick Ngakoue is an ascending talent. DFJ has made bigger strides that many would have guessed prior to the season. Malik Jackson is quietly a force. I’m hoping Marcel Dareus can regain his form and help to shut down the run. It’s so fun to watch this unit hunt.

Coaching Staff: With the retaining of Marrone and most of the assistant coaches, the Jaguars basically blamed everything on Gus Bradley. Since Gus Bradley is the worst coach in NFL history, I’m going to agree. Marrone, while not a fan favorite around Orchard Park, has been solid in Duval. He wanted a tough team and he’s made them into a tough team. BTW, I agree with the benching of Fournette yesterday. He has to establish control, especially with newcomer Marcell Dareus coming in. Todd was has done what all good coaches do- He’s adapted his scheme to his players. That’s a new one around here. Nathaniel Hackett is running the type of offense that the team wants to run and has mixed it up fairly well. I’m hoping special teams don’t cost any more games.

WIN LUNCH

Referee Brad Allen said Ramsey was ejected for instigating the fight, and Green was tossed for throwing punches. Officials warned both players following verbal exchanges earlier in the game.

Coughlin took exception with Ramsey's dismissal.

"Our players are instructed to not retaliate or get involved or do anything that would result in eviction because that would hurt the team," Coughlin said in a statement on Tuesday.

"Team comes first, and Jalen was trying to not hurt his team. While he did push his opponent — something that happened with other players during the game — he did not retaliate, he threw no punches, and he did not fight back.

"Jalen was doing what Coach (Doug) Marrone has instructed him to do, which is to play tough, be physical and to make every play difficult for his opponent. There was banter going back and forth during the game, but Jalen was playing football within the rules."

Coughlin's mark is all over this team, coaching staff included.

I stand by the Godfather.

Jaguars passing yards allowed last 3 games

136(Dalton),  200(Brissett), 124(Goff)

After Sunday's game vs Chargers, the next 3 QB are Kizer?, Stanton?, and Brissett.

This has been fun to hear discussed today. No one knows what the penalty is because no one does it. Video and statements from security had to be sent to the league.

Sorry if that sounded like Titans fan pleased a Jaguar got in trouble. I mean it was fun to hear everyone state how they know it's wrong but not one person could nail down what the fine or "punishment" is.

@phillip_heilman: Fournette: "It's another lesson that I have to learn and grow up from." Said it's a mistake that won't happen again.

In September 2013, the Orlando CBS affiliate WKMG was forced to carry the Jaguars instead of the Manning Bowl. In response the ran this along the bottom which they deny was an apology

“In accordance with NFL policy, WKMG must carry all Jacksonville Jaguars’ away games. We apologize for any inconvenience.”

According to 506, they are carrying the Chargers-Jaguars instead of Jets-Bucs. It looks like they opted to carry it intentionally since their preseason list has them carrying Jets-Bucs.

ETA Please note this disclaimer from the preseason list

**Also, please note that News 6 is required by the NFL to air ALL Jacksonville Jaguars road games, and several weekends consist of a CBS "single header," which means News 6 can only air one game.

When I think of the Chargers defense, I think of a physical Front 7.

Last year they were 10th in the league in run defense 97.8 yards per game / 3.8 ypc. They gave up 1567 yards rushing all season in 2016.

Thru 8 games this year under their new defensive coordinator, they've given up 135 yards per game / 4.6 ypc. Over a thousand rushing yards allowed halfway thru the season. Considering the Jags defensive weakness is on the ground, this could be a 2 and a half hour game on Sunday.

The Chargers opened the season with a new HC and DC. In the first 5 games, they allowed 160/806/4 (5.0 ypc). In games 6-8, they allowed 73/275/1 (3.8 ypc). As one possibly useful data point, they played Denver in game 1 and allowed 36/140/1 rushing, then played them again in game 7 and allowed 19/69/0.

These are small sample sizes, but the general thought is that it took some time for the defenders to get comfortable in the new defensive scheme. Also, note that one of their best run defenders, MLB Denzel Perryman, has not played yet this season but is set to make his debut this week. Perryman has been a top 20 LB against the run in his career to date, and he will take snaps from LB Pullard, who has generally been terrible.

Not saying Fournette won't have a great game, but the Chargers run defense should be better in this matchup than just looking at the season numbers would indicate.

Reports are that the Chargers love Jags reject Hayes Pullsrd and are starting him at Mike and moving Perryman to Will.

Reminds me of somebody's infatuation with Poz

Chargers run defense dominated (not including the fake punt, which isn't the kind of run defense I'm talking about). Brutal loss.

I really, really, really want Gus Bradley to fail today.
That was some of the worst decision making I've ever seen at the end of the game and even in OT after they got the INT. They got lucky after the stupid Bortles pass (INT) down 3 and in FG range. Then the get the ball back and do their best to screw up again.

During the replays they showed one angle where it clearly looked like he was on Ekeler's leg.  They did not show that angle again and neither announcer seemed to notice it.   I would have loved a Jags defensive TD, but after that replay I knew it was coming back.  Will try to find the specific replay.
