OFFICIAL JOSH GORDON DA PATRIOT THREAD (2 Viewers)

Whose pulled hammy, bad enough to be deemed inactive, magically heals within 24hrs?

JG isn't human. But we all knew that. *wink*

Does anyone know if this trade is even official yet? I'm thinking no. As of a little under and hour ago Bellichick said they were in same position as yesterday and yesterday he said he was not going to discuss this until it was official. Likely just waiting on Gordon to pass his physical, but with Gordon it's best to not count your chickens before they hatch.

Passed his physical before the deal was consummated.   That is how the Pats knew his hamstring was "healed".

Regarding the interview, that is BB being BB.  The "Player who shalt not be named" is going out of the media spotlight.

I don't think the bolded is true which is why I still don't think it's official . He saw an independent doctor  on his own yesterday which was scheduled before the trade ever took place but I read late yesterday he had not yet passed his physical.

I firmly believe BB will discuss the trade when it's official and he is scheduled to speak next. This could have happened in last hour but as of this morning I really don't think it happened yet.

ETA- The tweet below sent out around 4 pm CST  from Mike Reiss yesterday and within an hour I started seeing tweets that his hamstring was ok. He would not have made it into the building yet to pass his team administered physical at this time.

Bill Belichick, on @OMFonWEEI, doesn't want to comment on WR Josh Gordon, presumably until he comes to town and passes a physical. "Until everything gets set, it's a work in progress. We're not there yet," Belichick says on the show.

ETA part 2: was just reading stuff and came across an article from Mike Lomardi which he just put up about 20 minutes ago. He says this: The Patriots will offer support; they won’t assume it will all go according to plan. Once he has passed his physical, he will receive a detailed plan of the Patriots’ expectations from him — on and off the field.

Media: Bill, what can you tell us about the acquisition of Josh Gordon who is clearly your most physically gifted and potentially explosive wide receiver since Randy Moss.

BB:   We acquired a player. Next question.

They aren't going to give him the entire playbook.  BB will give him a packet of 10-15 plays to start.  He probably had the plays before he was on the airplane.

I honestly would not be surprised if he was on the field this week.  He has to be excited for a fresh start.  And a fresh start with Tom Brady as your QB after what he has had? He just won the lottery.
I would guess they give him literally about a handful of plays. Probably a trips to the outside screen, a slant, a sideline route, a go route, a hook, and a curl. That's it for now. His biggest asset will be having him run deeper routes and demand double coverage with not a lot of targets or intent to throw the ball to him just yet.

I am pretty sure they will then combine those routes into one of those other plays . . . so say he runs a sideline route over and over. Then he'll fake the sideline route into a curl. Defenders will figure he is running the same couple of routes at the same depth and then they will have him go deep or make a double move. Whenever he gets on the field, I would guess he will get a couple short passes and one or two deep attempts to keep the opposition honest. Maybe they hit on one of the deep balls.

That way it will help clear out the middle of the field some and give the RBs more room to maneuver (both running or receiving).

That being said, the Pats playbook is insanely complex. They have over 1,000 plays, but I have head BB mention that for receivers their are probably 4-5 hot reads to break off routes per play . . . so he guessed there really could be closer to 5,000 play options that receivers would have to know based on formations, defensive alignments, audibles, etc.

There is no way Gordon (or anyone else for that matter) could absorb that much very quickly. IMO, it will take weeks for him to be a regular, consistent contributor. What makes NE so efficient and proficient is they get out of the original play call and have everyone in alignment on what to do once the ball is snapped. That's hard to do if one of the receivers doesn't know where to line up, when to motion, when to go back from where he came from, what the beat of the play is when the receivers break off the line, where to go if a defensive back releases coverage at 10 yards, at 20 yards, etc.

I am sure the Pats hope to get him much more up to speed for the latter part of the season and into the playoffs. But I doubt he sees a ton of meaningful snaps or targets for quite awhile.

Fantasy wise, most people will play him if they own him, but if you have clear cut better options I would go with those for awhile. I guess it depends who else is on your roster.

No I don't agree. By the time NE traded him he was not the same player, past his prime.
He had just put up 83/1264/13 the season before. There was still tread on those tires. 15.2 YPR is solid. If he lost half a step, he'd have still been a good WR.

I like Gordon, but I'm selling if I can get a decent return. He might do fine, but I'd rather see if I can find someone buying the hype who is willing to sell a player I like just as much as Gordon but without the risk.

Sometimes people just fall of a cliff. Did not say he was not good, I'm saying he was not the same player.

Understand you wanting to move Gordon if you can.  I've said in this thread it could go either way and I think it's either total boom or total bust. No middle ground. Would not surprise me in the least if he got cut next week or emerged in second half of the season as a WR1. This is really an incredible dynamic of player and culture here. The structure could be everything he's ever needed or more then he can take. All I know is it's all up to him, if he buys it's all there for the taking for him and by default his fantasy owners.

@NFL

Will the @JOSH_GORDONXII trade be a win-win for the @Patriots and the WR?

Not official with the league, but the league is tweeting about it?

Wait, does this mean Cleveland is the loser in all of this? I hope not, but to their credit they have played two games and only have one loss. They would have zero losses if it wasn;t for stupid kickers. If DAL didn't waive Bailey Gordon for Bailey would have made sense!

The Josh Gordon trade is on the NFL’s transaction wire today, source said. He’s a Patriot.

Yes NOW it's official.

And reason I was interested previously was two reasons, both slim but with him I like to be sure. First would be if Pat's team doc had different opinion on his hamstring and other reason in light of Browns seemingly thinking he'd just as well get cut so he can be a UFA  I had some tiny concern  he might try and sabotage the trade. So far so good.

FWIW a respected, long time poster here who wishes to remain anonymous just PM'd me that he (Or is it she? Just kidding, it's definitely he.) traded Gordon for Alex Collins in his 12 team league, 0.5ppr league.

So did Gordon not injure his hamstring?

that's how it looks.

As his future hangs in the balance, with the #Browns hoping to trade him, WR Josh Gordon is traveling tonight to see a specialist tomorrow to learn the severity of his hamstring injury, source said. The hope is it’s minor, but tests will tell all.

^^^ I know what was said.

But it was bad enough that he had to sit sunday, but good enough for a physcial, a trade, and clean MRI on Monday?

Yeah, that's what was said. You think the Browns cut him for a fifth after sticking with him for six years and that's not suspicious?

That's ####### incredible, and I support Gordon. Something happened. Weird. Get used to it. It's Gordon.

Well, it isn't physcially related, and he didnt fail a test.

So it was obvious that the browns and gordon just weren't a fit anymore. they had to cut ties. i dont see it as any more than that.
