A couple of UK notes:* UK and Gillispie settled out of court and coach got $2.9 million. Glad that is over. His DUI cost him $1 million basically.* Some rapper named Drake is going to be at Big Blue Madness. Never heard of him, but apparently he is Irving's favorite. I am officially embarrassed.
New guy who used to be an actor on DeGrassi High. Pretty big hit I think, but it's not something I'd ever stoop to listen to. Video of him "freestyling" lyrics off a BlackBerry is a dealbreaker.

Are any cable channels doing extensive TV coverage of the midnight practices? I'm curious to see how big the shows are at the big programs. The guests of honor for KU will be Harrison Barnes, Josh Selby, and Doron Lamb. Of those three, Lamb seems to be the guy KU is most confident about landing. There will also be a few top 2011s and 2012s there.
ESPNU will have coverage, but it won't be at midnight. The practices are now earlier in the day/evening.

Interesting quote from coach of TSTSNBN (is that right?) about the lineup. According to a post on a popular fan site, the coach said if there was a game tonight, starting lineup would be Scheyer, Smith, Singler and both Plumlees. That's a freshman and sophomore starting over junior Thomas and senior Zoubek in the frontcourt. Obviously can change over pre-season practice, early games and matchups, but I'm interested to see if the Plumlees and frosh Kelly are the frontcourt regulars over the upperclassmen.

possible, but not likely IMO. With Singler at the 3, Duke can't really afford to have two bigs that CANT switch out and guard the permieter. It makes them too slow.ScheyerSmithSinglerThomasMason PlumleeThomas can switch out and guard wing players. he also hedges and recovers very well for a big guy. He's very limited on offense, but they need him on D. This allows Duke to have Miles off the bench as a shot blocker (which he did very well at times last year). If i had to guess right now, i'd probably say the minutes break down as follows....Scheyer- 30-33 (1 and 2)Nolan- 28-30 (1 and 2)Singler- 28-30 (3 and 4)Thomas- 20 (4)Mason P.- 25 (4 and 5)Dawkins- 18-20 (2 and 3)Miles P.- 20 (5)Zoubek-10(5)Kelly-15(3 and 4)There could be times where Duke plays smaller teams and Zoubek gets no time. When they play a team with a 7 footer (FSU for example) he'll see more time.

A recent quote from Scout.com's Dave Kersey.

"Before I finish the Leslie response, I'll also say that Stacey Poole will be attending Madness. And that several Duke folks are just about ready to concede Irving to UK. These supposedly are Duke people who have some inside knowldege of their program."

I am  by this. Does this mean UK has soured on Knight, or vice versa? What about Selby? Veyr interesting developments.

This is in direct conflict with what we've heard on the Duke boards. Essentially, he's saying that Irving flat out lied to the Duke coaching staff while on his official.

So Duke does not want him because of this? What did he lie about? I always though he was Duke bound. I prefer Knight. Not sure I like this development.

No, thats not what i meant.Irving told the staff that he was coming while he was on his official visit. They've been operating under the impression that its a done deal. Duke still wants him badly. IMO, they still get him. Other than the fact that he's visiting UK (which is a big deal, of course) everything since his in-home visit has basically spelled out that he's commiting to Duke. The prevailing theory surrouding the visits to A&M and UK is that he's waiting for the day before Barnes' official visit (which i believe starts next friday) to go public. The assumption is that he'll announced on the 22nd. Most of this is probably pure speculation and a bit silly to discuss. But in the end, i think he goes to Duke. Not sure why UK would sour on Knight. I know he's kinda been a PITA with regards to his recruitment (very close to the chest, hasnt been taking it all that seriously, probably gonna wait till the spring to sign) but he's still a top 3 player in the class, a straight A student and a guaranteed lottery pick. With Bledsoe back in the fold for next year (assuming he stays eligible) i dont see why Uk wouldnt wait for him.

Louisville basketball players Jerry Smith and Terrence Jennings each will face only one charge stemming from their involvement in an altercation with off-duty police officers during the weekend, and coach Rick Pitino said the two would not miss any game time.

Methinks if the opener was against East Tennessee State at Freedom Hall instead of a neutral-site game with Arkansas on ESPN, Smith and Williams would have been suspended for the first game. Push the Arkansas game back a week, and Pitino could have put his foot down and suspended Smith and Williams for 3 games! (against ESTU, Morgan State, and Appalachian State, all at Freedom Hall)
I am surprised that even Pitino would not suspend them for the exhibition games at least.

It's not just the Duke boards. The UNC boards assume Irving to Duke based on multiple posts from the most trusted insiders (including the board administrator) and have moved to speculation on how it will impact Barnes.I'd love to believe this Kersey fellow, but I don't for a second.

I won't say i don't believe him, but I don't see it happening. Irving has been the 3rd choice for UK for a long time. i am not even sure why he is coming to BigBlueMadness, especially at the cost of having Selby there. I still see him ending up a Dukie.

FWIW, the guys on the Duke boards seem to think they instigated the Kersey comments ("several Duke folks are ready to concede....")

There's been a lot of sarcastic "Irving to UK" jokes going around lately.

If they are anything like guys on most forums, they think they are way more important than they really are. So this recruiting "expert" got his info from the Duke message board? hard to believe that. Again, I don't see Kersey being right, but he has to have some kind of source.

Wouldn't understand why anyone would rank UNC over Duke anyway. UNC has 1 starter and their 6th man from last year returning, both of which were role players behind their big 4. Duke has a MUCH more experienced team, with the best player in the conference in Singler.

And Irving to Duke is done. I am not able to share, but Duke already knows exactly when and how he'll announce. As I've said for some time, the next 4 weeks are going to be HUGE for Duke. A domino affect with recruits committing will start with Irving. :lmao:

This year is going to be very interesting. We have an amazing OOC so I see our SOS being high throughout the season. While being ranked is nice, im more interested in the BE tourney. Getting a 1-4 see would be great also, but winning the BE tourney is tops in my book.

Tobias Harris has been deleted from the visitation list for Mountaineer Madness!! What's up?He'll be in LexingtonI believe he will be in town the weekend of Oct. 24 for an official visit.

Borges also reported that UConn shooting guard Jerome Dyson, who missed the last 12 games of last season after undergoing knee surgery, has been sitting out of practices and drills, but did compete in Friday night’s dunk contest.“He wouldn’t miss the chance to show off,” said Calhoun. “Jerome has instant recuperative powers when there are 2,000-3,000 co-eds looking at him.”

Notes from UK's Big Blue Madness

* Over 24K in attendance

* Recruits in attendance: Kyrie Irving, Tobias Harris, Michael Gilchrist and Achraf Yacoubou

* Recruits that were expected, but did not show up: CJ Leslie, Josh Selby, Marquies Teague. We knew in advance about Teague and Selby, but Leslie was a surprise. 2nd time he has cancelled a visit.

* Cal gave a 10 minute speech prior to the scrimmage. Many fans were very fired up about this, but it was the same stuff we have heard before.

* Wall is SICK!!

Would not surprise me, UK never really seemed to be high on his list, nor he on theirs.

You know who claims he's a done deal to Duke. I don't necessarily believe this, but take it FWIW. UK should land Gilchrist though, which would make Miller pretty unnecessary for you guys. Both are basically college 3's (although Miller could play the 4 and Gilchrist the 2) and both are 1 and done in all likelihood.

I would say that we get Harris and Gilcrhrist from the group of recruits last night. I know nothing about Yacoubou. Irving and Miller are Duke bound, IMO.

Harris is supposedly a Quse lean. He (and his father, who's heavily involved) is obsessed with the idea of being a "point-forward", not sure how that fits into the DDMO.

yeah, it appears Harris really wants the ball in his hands. Doesn't fit at UK IMO. They should just take CJ Leslie and move on.

Sorry to my gb Ripleys, but this is just terrible.

yeah, its really, really #### (rhymes with "hay")Sorry, it just is.

In other news, current topics (and brief summaries) from the first page of the rivals national recruiting board.......

Tobias Harris loves UK visit *UPDATE*

started solely to discuss how Tobias Harris tweeted about his visit to midnight madness. UK fans managed to make it through 3 posts before this gem....."You CARED enough to comment. Perhaps you commented out of ENVY?"

Big Blue Madness men's portion download

started to give the people on the national board a link to download the UK midnight madness vids. apparently, this was very important.

Patrick Patterson quote says it all...

“Once you see Madness, you see what Kentucky has to offer,” Kentucky center Patrick Patterson told the Herald-Leader. “You commit right off the bat.”- (Yes, this was started as its own topic)

Kyrie Irving arrives at BBM- started solely to gloat after Duke fans claimed he wasnt coming

Yo Unc, Kansas Fans (started solely to post a picture of Kanye West talking about UK's recruiting class)

BRUTAL.

I have never been to the national board and I don't think I will start. I certainly see how it could get annoying, but it is just a bigger picture of what you have here. Many posters pimping their own teams with very little perspective on the national scene. I have learned a lot about some of the other national powers here, and expect that to continue. I would guess most fans are doing the same thing, pushing their own teams. Is that wrong, or are we just more annoying? Maybe you are just jealous. :bag:

Tobias Harris says (not that it's necessarily true) that neither he or Irving have a leader:

Tobias Harris and Kyrie Irving together in college?Imagine what a dangerous tandem that would be for some lucky college program. It could happen if both seniors choose the same school. But at this point the two stars would have to both select Kentucky, which they visited this weekend for Big Blue Madness, or Georgia Tech, which both will visit in the coming weeks.“We talked about that but both of us don’t have a leader in this process and the only schools recruiting us both are Kentucky and Georgia Tech,” the 6-foot-8 Harris from Dix Hills (N.Y.) Half Hollow Hills West, second from right in the above photo, said Sunday night by text. After watching more than 23,000 fans turn out for Big Blue Madness, Harris said his favorite part of the visit was “the fans and how they support their basketball team.”And first-year coach John Calipari put on the fullcourt press with Harris by telling him he was a player who could “come in and score and play many positions.”Tobias and his father, Torrel, went to three practices in two days.“Calipari is such a good teacher,” Torrel. “He’s going to bring that program back to the good days. That’s what he wants to do, bring them back to the glory days of Kentucky basketball.”

Irving will be supporting the #1 jersey for the first time in K's history at Duke. He's never allowed anyone to wear #1 before. The domino affect is about to begin. :lmao:

When does he announce Rip? If you had to guess, who is Duke's class this year? Irving? Barnes? Miller? Who else?

This Thursday is what I was told a couple of weeks ago. And yes, i believe Barnes will join Irving to complete the 2010 class (along with Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton)Miller will join Austin Rivers in the 2011 class. Duke is looking at several other players including Plumlee3 in that 2011 class. There was a reason I was laughing at a few of the tarheel idiots on these boards a few months ago who were saying Duke's program is dying. The next 2 classes may rival anything K's done since he's been at Duke. He's made a major shift in his recruiting philosophy (no more all the eggs in 1 basket, and ignoring a 1-2 year players comes to mind) UNC fans are gonna hate the next couple of years. :)

Terrence Jones drops KU and AZ from his list. Schools he is still considering are: Oklahoma, Washington, UCLA, Kentucky and Oregon

EerSports.com spoke to Payne's coach, Art Winston, who said the trip went very well, that Adreian was impressed by the student body's interest in him, and he enjoyed watching practice and meeting with professors from the business school.Adreian will make a decision before Jefferson begins its season, Nov. 9. He has another trip scheduled to Kansas Oct. 31 and Winston hasn't heard of any plans to cancel. In short, they're keeping things extremely close to the vest right now but WVU seems to have a very good shot here according to those close to his recruitment.Winston added that WVU is stressing "the academics, the style of play and that coach Huggins gets the most out of his players."On the fans showing their interest in Payne, he said: "I think that was the first time the students actually were able to get involved because the other times he took visits were before practice."

Irving now almost certain to announce for Duke on Thursday, based on multiple sources, including several that are not Duke-affiliated.
Dave Telep is now among them. This has been public knowledge at Inside Carolina and presumably the Duke message board for weeks now. Informed speculation is that it's supposed to help sway Harrison Barnes, who is in Durham this weekend. We'll see whether it works.
