I signed up for the free 10 day trial last night.

Made a Wood Elf Hunter named Flysackaran.

While the skill and combat systems seemed interesting, and the persistent world interesting, the aesthetics are far less polished than Guild Wars (my only frame of reference). It seemed slightly choppy and dull in comparison.

I recognize the crafting skills and the such might make this a better game, but I was unimpressed with the trial run.

you're very very wrong here. the graphics in this game are stunning. are you running DX10 with all the goodies at ultra high res?

No, but my machine is no slouch either. I'm certainly not running the minimum requirements. My graphics settings are on "High" though not "Very high."

I'll take a couple pictures for you later this week when I get a chance to play to show you how gorgeous it can look.I was a long-time veteran of Guild Wars too and it doesn't compare.

Even at low res. Bad graphics or lack of visual appeal is probably the only thing I've never heard complaints about in this game. I'm almost speechless.

Agreed. I played a lot of GW at launch and LOTRO is gorgeous looking. Just wait till you get to the Trollshaws at sunset and look out over the valley.

I logged on this AM ready to do another round of CI's and just thought, why? So I logged off and will work/do some Empire:TW today. Content needs some work it would seem.

Those are my favorite things to do. It doesn't matter if I take 15 minutes or 3 hours.

A couple images from logging in briefly tonight in Evendim on my Landroval Burglar ('Crafty' Jack). Note: my LCD monitor can only support 1280x1024, so even though I have all the goodies turned on, it's still not super huge resolution. One of the things these images don't capture are the shadows and smooth animations.

SO who needs what radiance gear for alts still? We can organize some FBG events as needed.

My minst is complete, but I guess at some point I should get shoulders for my hunter and champ. The retooling of the rad instances and making them so much harder to do is the main reason I have not continued leveling my capt and LM, but we shall see.

What else ya got? I am willing to help anyone and always am in for a good GS loot run.

FWIW - There is still a fantastic exploit in GS that lets you fight the same way as before. Be happy to share it with others. :lmao:

I wouldn't mind starting to pick up some pieces for my burg, but the Min/Guard/Hunter are all decked out except for the watcher pieces.

The shoulders were a massive PITA before, now without CC it is colossal. It takes at least an hour to even get there, let alone doing the last boss. For that reason, I have not even thought about shoulders for my hunter. However, the rest I am game for.

Does your burg have anything? Boots would be easy. Chest not bad at all. Gloves, not sure since patch. Legs easy.

You obviously haven't power 16th'ed with my burg. 60 minutes tops if we stop to kill all the crawlers. No, my burg has nothing. Just bought both 3-sets before they BoA'ed them.

I'm glad I didn't consider the lifetime subscription option too closely. This is a beautiful game, and worth playing through once or twice, but I can't imagine staying with it for years. I don't see the game reaching the gates of Mordor, ever.

If it keeps up with its current track record of breaking things with each release, it won't even make it to Riders of Rohan, as I am sure most of you have typed in ridersofrohan.com by now and seen where it leads.

I don't know if that means anything. Landroval used to have a guild called Riders of Rohan that owned that address. Maybe they just turned on forwarding to the LOTRO site after disbanding.

Just downloaded the game for the 10 day free trial. I'm an elf and the name is Adenion.
If you decide to stay, I will send you some cash and gear. You cannot receive mail and such on a trial account currently, but would be happy to give you a big headstart. What class did you pick? I created a dwarf rune-keeper named Gigawatt that I will be leveling soon as well, so maybe we can help each other.

Don't ever buy anything from a regular vendor. Especially don't buy any real gear even at AH for a few levels. If you go live, I will craft you a bunch of stuff that will last several levels. From lvl 5-50, crafted armour is almost always better that quest gear, with a few exceptions. After 50, crafting pretty much sucks since Moria was released in November.

The way crafting was implemented -- it's not really possible to keep yourself @ on-level crafted gear. You will outpace your crafted gear, especially starting at Expert level. There are plenty of other people who can craft for you -- I'd suggest gathering materials like ore and selling it on the auction hall for money. Then, offer to pay for some crafted items -- you'll save a LOT of money and be able to use on-level crafted gear without worry.

Heck, though, I am SM in all crafts, so if you get me the mats, I will make whatever you want. I will just make you your first few rounds without getting me mats, though.

I was just pointing out in general that crafting your own weapons and armor isn't possible when going through the game the first time.

I'm a lvl 7 and i'm in some that begins with a C. Celudim, something like that. Went and got trained to make my own weapons. Just need to find the damn materials.

like i just said .. it's not really possible to make your own weapons as you level your only character. you outlevel your pace of gathering materials and you'll only be able to make level 30 weapons at level 40. it's easier to buy from other crafters and sell them your gathered materials.you're in Celondim, the havens of the elves beyond the shire.

I've tried to find how much it cost on their site but can't find it.
I can't find the monthly cost. I know the game cost 20 bucks.
the game is often on sale for 5 bucks.the monthly cost is 10 when you buy 6 months at once. it increases to 15 when you buy it monthly.
Yeah I bought a collector's edition license that I will sell you for $5 if you want. If you go 3-months at a time, it is around $9 a month with my plan.

In case you were wondering, the FG exploit is still in full effect as well, as is Skumfil. So that makes FG, Skum and GS still easy and fast and Forges is not too bad either. If they would just scale back DD a bit, people might actually run that one too.

I find it amusing that people feel the need to exploit Skumfil. It takes longer than just fighting.
It is just the flop to the left. Not so much an exploit really. I guess I would really only call exploits when you glitch stuff. Strats using skills I enjoy learning, but apparently, Turbine does not like it when you think independently and wants you to do all fights the way they think you should.

Aaaaaannnnnd here we go again. Offline for a quick patch and now servers will be down for a time yet to be determined to "address stability issues" which were supposed to have been addressed with this patch.

What the hell Turbine?

Yup, I call things exploits that involve ??? over mobs heads (hard to avoid lately in some areas, but I mean doing so for the purpose of taking them out of the fight) or using game mechanics (as opposed to skills) like dropping group, standing in doors, etc. Fighting a boss where it 'wasn't intended' by Turbine does not seem like an exploit at all, rather, just positioning. Just like I never saw a problem with locking mobs in the side rooms in the Balrog fight, whereas some people consider that an exploit. That being said, I still think that Skumfil (as long as you have some decent AOE dps) really isn't that hard at all. It is challenging to keep moving, and knowing when to move/start the boss, etc, but not necessarily hard. I never understand standing on the lip in Forges either - it was easy enough to run around the center, although it did take longer. Death runs + rez didn't ever seem like an exploit, just costly in repairs, but that was the tradeoff for speed.
