So, at the step now where I'm choosing a subscription plan.

There is also a Mines of Moria expansion deal where you get 33% off if you buy the downloadable version of the expansion online.

I'm inclined to try the 6 month subscription plan @ $9.67/mo for the first billing cycle (it increases to $13/mo. after first cycle) -- however, their lifetime subscription plan has been reduced to $199. If I play for a bit less than 2 years, I save money.

From what I see, the game is licensed through 2014 - but I don't think there's a guarantee that it continues to be developed for that long. Turbine has pulled the plug in the past on unsuccessful MMOs, so I'm a bit wary of opting for this. Plus, unless a game is superb I don't end up playing it for more than 6 months.

Current players: what's your opinion? Should I buy the expansion and get the reduced 6 month subscription price? Should I even remotely consider the lifetime plan since it's now a full $100 less?

I would seriously consider the lifetime, if you see yourself playing the game that long. Don't worry about Turbine, they will (should) be solvent for some time with this game. What sucks is looking back and wishing you had done the lifetime when you started (especially since I could have gotten the $199 deal then as well). I haven't done the lifetime yet but seriously considering it when my current term is up (next payment date is end of January).

Just got through level 6 and exited the intro area on Gladden. Elf Hunter - Novariel. So far the game REALLY reminds me of Warhammer in both art direction and interface (LotRO was obviously out well before Warhammer, I just never gave it a shot thinking it would be another Matrix Online bull#### money grab).

I will add you to my friend list. I think the graphics and art is actually much improved over WoW and WAR, but that is me. As for the term, I wish I had done the $199 lifetime 1 1/2 yrs ago. I do the $9 and change a month every 3 month plan that founders get. However, not sure where I see myself in another year.Add all my guys to your friend list and if you need a hand with a quest, I will be there with bells on.TarethynTaranthirMinscGarythCoachjim

Frodo looked out across the barren landscape, the Ring heavy in his pocket. 'Oh, Sam, I'm so tired. We have travelled so far, and endured so much to come to this horrid place at last. But I cannot go on, I simply have not the strength to continue.'

'Enough of that, Mr. Frodo', Sam said, tears welling in his sad brown eyes. The six months of travel showed on Samwise Gamgee, and the strain of getting to this hellish point echoed still in his darkened countenance. His hood was drawn up against the hot wind blowing from the slopes of the infernal mountain. 'Mr. Elrond chose well, he did, when he held counsel. He saw through to your heart, and knew you would be strong, Mr. Frodo, and that's what you are. Come now, let's get moving. The faster we're done with this unpleasant business the faster we can get back to the Shire.' Sam glanced uneasily at Gollum, still tressed in the Elven rope, and scratching where it burned his skin. Gollum glared back at Sam, an unmistakable hungry leer in his look.

'Aye, Samwise, it has been a long road, it's true. I do wish old Bilbo had never found this ring, and started us all on this perilous...what was that noise? Orcs?'

On the path ahead, a commotion arose. Cheers and ragged screams welled from what sounded like a hundred voices filled the chasms around Mt. Doom with an unholy cacophany. From the cave mouth just ahead, where the Fires of Mt. Doom burned forever, a giant Ogre came stumbling out, and trod to within inches of where Gollum, Samwise, and Frodo sat. The three shrank back against the cliff in fear, but the Ogre took no notice of them. Instead, he raised his cudgel to the sky, and screamed in the full timbre of his ogrish voice, 'WOOT! Dark Lord PWNED!'

An answering call of a hundred voices echoed from without the cave, and many a shout of 'Woot!' and 'Gratz!' came, as more and more beings piled forth from the cave. Elves, Hobbits, Trolls, and Humans all came forth, slapping the Ogre on the back and looking at a small black bag the Ogre held in his other hand. 'PWNED!'

'Uhm, excuse me...', began Frodo. 'Eh?' the Ogre turned and looked at the halfing, noticing him for the first time. '*** are you doing here? Is that Mithril? Dude, *** are you doing in this zone in Mithril? Go to Lothlorien, and get yourself a Galadriel Skin Tunic. It's like so much better than that crap you're wearing. Mithril, that's like, tradeskill stuff, right? Hey, Ubernutz, check this Hobbit out, he's in this zone in fooking tradeskill crap!' 'Just a sec, Urofsuke,' a Half-Elf said from a little ways up the trail. 'I'm doing loot. Did you say tradeskill stuff? Hah, how lame!'

Frodo's head swam, with hunger and the heat. 'Yes, the tunic, it was forged by Dwarves long ago, and was given to me by my Uncle...'

'You're a twink?'

'Ah, hmm. I was just wondering..ah, you see, I found this Ring, lost for centuries, and was sent on a quest from Rivendell to destroy...'

'You're doing the fooking QUEST?! BWAH, hahahah, that's rich, dude, no one has the time to wait for that Gollum puke to spawn! Just come and kill TDL and get his hand, and do the turn in from there. ***, I can't believe you waited for the fooking ring.' Urofsuke peered down at the little Hobbit, a look of distain across his broad face. 'Doesn't matter now, of course, we just pwned TDL and he won't be around for a while.'

Frodo blinked, confused by the Ogre's words. 'TDL...?' Urofsuke sighed, and took on a tone of voice usually reserved for small, ogrish children who had eaten a froglok right before their dinnertime. 'The Dark Lord, dude. The boss mob in this zone. We just killed him, so he won't be up for you to do the quest part with that ring.'

'But the council of Rivendell....'

'Dude, let me tell you, Rivendell sucks. It's only good for tradeskills. Only reason to go to that zone is to pharm crowns from Elrond. Nice crown, but it's his rare. He usually just drops a no drop phial, heals damage from Mordor Blades. Like anyone uses one of those POS things.'

'Pharm...crowns?' Frodo's vision blurred, and he swayed backwards, momentarily losing his footing. He knocked against Gollum, who let out a yelp and scampered further back against the cliff.

'Holy fook, it's Gollum!' and without another word, Urofsuke smashed Gollum with a mighty blow from his cudgel, and killed the poor, pathetic creature outright. Gollum let out a small squeal, then lay still, pressed against the Elven cord. 'Hahahah! Fooking greenie mob! I love those!', and the ogre walked up and took a heretofore unseen bag from Gollum's back. 'Woot! Gollum's satchel! This'll bring me a couple kpp! Uh, dude, there's another ring on the corpse, it's no drop, and not lore, if you want it...'

'Now see here, Gollum was with us!' Samwise began, momentarily overcoming his bewilderment and fear to approach the towering Ogre. 'We were taking him to...' 'Can't claim an outdoor mob, dude. Gollum's FFA. If you didn't attack him, he's not your mob. Sorry, them's the rules.'

'Urofsuke, my alt just reported Smaug up in Gondor, dude, let's go!' Ubernutz had finished handing around what appeared to be a darkened sword and crown. 'We're porting out from here, you in?'

'Yeah, I'm coming. Well, nice talking to you guys. We're porting to Gondor, you guys need a lift?'

'We have walked for many months to come to this place...' Frodo began again, trying to regain some measure of control over the situation.

'You WALKED? In MITHRIL? To MOUNT DOOM? Dude, there's a port in at Minas Morgul! *** ever, okay? I'm outta here.' And with that, a shimmering light surrounded the Ogre, and a whooshing sound heralded his disappearance, and the disappearance of the other hundred or so souls that had gathered on that desolate trail, leaving Samwise and Frodo alone, once again, with only the bleeding corpse of Gollum for company. The one ring of power gleamed dully in Frodo's hand, and seemed, for a long while, to be just a bit heavier than it had been.

Obvious WoW player wrote that since there are NO ogre, troll or half-elven player-characters in LOTRO, well at least on the PvE side.

I thought it was somewhat typical of the MMO player though.Would have been better if it were poking fun at Frodo carrying the ring all the way Mount Doom instead of getting a warlock to summon him there.Got your mail Mad Cow -- thanks!! It will be awhile until I figure out on what I'm supposed to spend money on!And I really think the game world is gorgeous -- makes me want to upgrade my computer again so I can max out the draw distance.

Gotta get into the LOTRO lingo there, AIU.

Aaaaannnd servers are done until Moria tomorrow. :wolf: I sooo should have scheduled my day out tomorrow. Instead, I have a full schedule. :goodposting:

My computer is patching it now, could the servers be coming back up already??

I had done the pre-patching and was gonna leave my work system on to patch as soon as it was available. This would be amazing.

too busy with work to play for awhile. upgraded account to moria and 6 month discount. i figure i'm getting the expansion free since i save $30 with the discount over 6 months.
You may just want to roll a warden or rune-keeper, as well, since starting tomorrow, there will be a TON of other wardens and rune-keepers. The noob areas will be well-stocked for a few weeks as people roll these classes.Of course, that also means a minstrel will be in heavy demand in the noob areas again.

FWIW you can patch it ALL up tonight starting a few hours ago, so when servers are up, there is no patch first, you can just go. This is a very nice change from before when you had to wait for servers to come up to patch.

There are 2 entrances into the new area, as well. You have the gate in Giant Valley in the TS, and also the ramp in Tal Bruinen where you fight those 2 gauradan - that is the most direct route to the first quest hub in Eregion.

I have no idea what you just said, but I'll figure it out in a couple months. My internet is screwed up tonight -- will download later this week.

Well the first few weeks of the new expansion, most people would normally be leveling the crap out of their mains to get to 60. However, with the new classes, you will also see a big influx of new toons, so you will see tons of characters to group with. Of course, if you need any help with any quests, just let me know. I can run you through pretty much all fellow quests up to level 35 or so with just 1 of my lvl 50's.

Getting close to lvl 52 now, and servers just went down for a quick fix for something.
I'm close to 51. Just got my legendary crossbow on my hunter before the hotfix downed the servers. Things are ok. The nerf to resists and mitigation is very noticeable. Not sure I even want to see how much trouble my guardian will have.Creeps got totally whacked. I think a lot of people just aren't going to play them any more.

Legendary xbow, huh? Nice. I chickened and went with the standard bow.

Any FBG's wanna roll some Eregion quests? Finished all the expeditionary ones, but still have almost all the other ones.

to start off, thanks mad cow for the buddy key. i didn't use the key because the buddy key enrollment was shut down before the expansion, so i just bought the game . i statrted playing for about four days and keep getting BSOD or a CTD often. Throughly aggravated with this situation I finally figured out why it was happening(pci-e 2.0 GPU on a pci-e 16 board) so i ordered a new board. Took about three days to get said board from newegg. put the machine back together and installed vista ultimate(buddy of mine hoked me up for free). reloaded the game and started again last night. what a difference with the dx-10 software.

i am loving the game. have two characters started right now, a lvl 7 hunter Amonrake, and a lvl 10 lore master Sabriellenor. game looks great and the story line is really cool. although i don't have a ton a time to game like i used to, i really like having something to play when i need an escape from the world. hope to see you guys in game sometime, thanks again mad cow for the key.

me= :thumbup:

Adding you to my friend list.

At lvl 54.33 right now. Will be on for a bunch tonight if anyone wants to roll the new Library, School, or Moria stuff. Wife is going with friends to see Twilight.

Any FBG's up for some questing in a bit? I have a ton of quests around the first 3 areas of Moria, where we were today Broadway. Crossroads, Deep Descent, etc.

You're probably ahead of me now, but I am doing some of those first quest hubs now.

BTW, Nimel (Champ, officer in Epic) hit 60 yesterday afternoon. I've just barely cracked 54 myself.

Cool.Broadway and I have done quite a bit of fellowing in Moria thus far. 2 hunters with crossbows = pVV4g3 of goblins. Let me know if you need any help.Tare is 55.75 right now with XP, Broadway's Brinnidoc was 56 last night, might be 57 by now.Loving the legendary weapons. Honestly, this is how I would have seen crafting go in general, aside from maybe leveling a weapon. The legacies and runes/gems are awesome.I got really lucky with the legacies on my lvl 55 crossbow. That is gonna get me by till the lvl 58 for sure now. I will probably skip them all till 58, if not till I find a teal.

Thinking about finally giving this game a shot. Are any classes in more demand then others? Does the expansion pack come with the original game?

I agree with MC. That was fun last night.
We need to make that more common, Broadway. Those guys areguys I have groupedwith since beta and are pretty close, but also know what they are doing. They have run all the radiance instances without a minstrel, so having you there last night was alright. :) I am this close to leaving NQ and joining them. The thing keeping me in NQ is a shot at the watcher.

Really depends. Minstrel (healer) is always in demand, but the new Rune-Keeper from the expansion can heal alright, too. Seems captains, minstrels and burgs get a lot of love in asking for their services in the chat channels. No, the expansion is extra, but the main game can be had for $10, so might as well get it all.

I agree, I'd be up for it most any time. It really makes a lot of difference doing the stuff with decent players.

They are on pretty much every night, so it should be easy to get in a group if you want to.

i've been playing around with this as much as i could over the break, and i have gotta say i am enjoying this more than any MMO i've previously played.

i'm playing on the unofficial RP server (Landroval) even though i'm still mostly leveling and haven't done much RP. but i like having the option to RP to experience the game more fully at a later date.

(to the anti-RP'ers: i'm not the kind of RP'er who stands around in town all day speaking ye olde English. but i do enjoy taking my time through instances in character so i can stop and enjoy the scenery, which is something you just don't find on a non-RP realm)

i've settled on Burglar as my main character with a Warden alt slowly going for the Undying title. i played around with a Hunter, Captain and Runekeeper but couldn't really get into them. i'm surprised at the demand for Burglars given the popularity of the Rogue in WoW and how similar they are.

You should at least create 1 guy on Gladden and join us for a little non-RP fun :hophead:

I'll create a Champion on Gladden when I get a chance. But at the rate I seem to be acquiring rest xp on the other server, I'll never be able to outpace it! (my usual strategy in MMOs is to use as many alts as necessary so that I am always leveling with rest xp. so far, that seems to be 2 but if i have spare time i might play the gladden char. i definitely noticed that gladden was less populated than landroval by a decent margin and i prefer highly populated realms anyway.)created Gladden char "Darkglove" a man Burglar. will play it for awhile this weekend.

Will add Darkglove to my friend list as soon as servers come back on. You upgrade to MoM as well? I would be more than happy to supply you with your armour, jewellery, and weapon needs.

I did upgrade to MoM and (I think) got a 6 month subscription. I've been playing on Landroval, having just got my first Undying title with my runemaster and getting close to it with my burglar. I wish they had a higher title than just getting to lvl 20 without dying. In Guild Wars, if you got to the max level ten times over you used to get a prestigious title (before the expansion trivialized it). I'd love to shoot for something challenging like level 60 without dying, or doing all deeds without dying.
