I'm not sure if it's a parallel universe or just a matter of those characters just needing to finish their timeline/reality which was already set in motion. I vote for both.If the producers' mantra of "If you're dead you're dead" is to be trusted, then Sayid isn't Sayid just like Locke isn't Locke. Jacob would seem to be the likely new Sayid.

Im more concerned with this alternate reality going on. This seems like the setup til the end, them on the island and them in this "what-if" scenario off island. How the two tie together I have no idea, but it better be good.
As for Sayid, I don't know if that's Jacob, when Nemesis took Locke's form there was still a body. This time around it's more like a literal resurrection. I find it ironic how last season Sayid was like, "nothing can save me". Now he has like this Temple baptism and is literally saved and comes back to life.

Yea I don't know if it's a parallel universe or not, but it does seem obvious that they are going to show both sides of the story. What would happen on the island and what happens if they didn't crash. I don't think the two sides will ever meet, they are just going to present it to show that things wouldn't always be better if the crash didn't happen.
