***Official*** Matt Jones Thread (1 Viewer)

You can put me on board. I think he'll put up decent rookie numbers this season and looks like he good be a decent pro. I like that fact that he was a qb before. He's tall, runs fast and has super hands. What's not to like really.

when are you people going to learn?!?!?!

1) ***official*** threads always have 3 ***'s before and after the word "official" (exp: too numerous to name)

2) any threads pimping a player of somewhat debateable abilities must always have a heart in the title (exp: reshard lee thread)

thank you for your time

edit to add - i'm with you righetti!

***offical*** member of the matt jones bandwagon
What if i don't want to make it "offical" and just want to keep my man love on the down low?

I find it amazing how much weight people put into a catch (although a SWEET ONE) in the preseason against a C- DB (Rossum) who falls down. Now granted, Jones saw the ball and made an excellent play on it. But until I see him be able to SEPERATE from a Bonafide startind CB in this league, I'll have my doubts. I feel a roster spot for him in a re-draft is a waste. I'd be interested in him in a keeper league as long as it was a late pick. You're Welcome.

tickets will be more expensive in a few weeks.. buy now if you want on
I live an hour and a half from Jacksonville, and I have to tell you...

Tickets for anything relating to the Jacksonville Jaguars will always be neither scarce nor expensive.
the tickets in question would be for the

who wants to go see the Jags play...
I do. This is the second straight year that they're playing my Broncos at home. Let's hear it for being able to get tickets for $20 two days before the game. The only thing better would be living near the Arizona Cardinals, but they're in the NFC and so seldom play anyone of consequence.

What's not to like? The fact that not only is a rookie, but he's only been playing WR for... what, 6 months now?

Got him in my dynasty league at 2.04 and LOVING it. His skills, his attitude, his team, I love this guy! Did you see what he did after he made that one handed snag? That's right, nothing. He got up and got ready for the next play. It wasn't until after the following play that Leftwich gave him a somewhat chest-bump. Most other WR's would have jumped up and down and spiked the ball down. But not Matt Jones! Just another great catch, he'll be doing that for years to come.

I'll volunteer to feed & water the horses.I think once he polishes his route running skills that he is going to be a definite match-up problem for defensive coordinators. The height, weight and speed combination is wicked. :banned:

Assuming he's only been playing the first half of games (I haven't watched any games, only highlights) we're sill looking at an average of ~4/90.

Yes I know it's only the preseason, BUT it is evident that Leftwich is looking to him a good amount. Jones could[/] be a huge sleeper in a young WR corps (other than SNIFF).

I can see Jones having value as a WR3, especially in a PPR league.

Been in for a while. I really don't understand the talk about not being able to learn a new position. At least not with a QB going to WR. Plenty of precedent there. The catch last night will have people excited but reality is that was just one more example of what he's been doing since the Senior Bowl. He's got great hands. And we know he can fly. And Jimmy Smith is almost ready for Social Security. I like the guy a lot.J

Yeah, but he's going to need Jimmy Sniff. Sniff will draw the best corner and possibly doubles early on in this season forcing any of these Wr2's on Jax to step up and earn their respect. With the attention on Sniff, I agree with you that this guy has the size, speed, hands and knowledge to succeed. He looks like a giant out there. He creates huge mismatch problems for defeneders. Plus, he's a tough kid. I remember him playing through some pain when he was at Arkansas........I like the kid too.

On cold pizza they keep referring to him as a TE. I know he's listed as a WR but will he become the TE in order to get him on the field more?

They made no mention of that last night. They don't want to make him a TE, he isn't going to be able to block well enough for that. If he was listed as a TE, he could be the fastest TE ever.In fact, Paul McGuire said last night that Jones almost outran the overthrown ball. Try and figure that one out.

Righetti, if you hadn't beat me to him in our dynasty draft last weekend, I would be IN too.For now I'm just gonna ride my tricycle alongside the bandwagon and watch you guys partying.:DING DING tricycle bell:

Let's not forget who it was at the end of the half that tipped the ball up back into play allowing Wilford to make his long catch..... You got it, Mr. Matt Jones!!!!

that's why they'll play him in the slot. same type of routes, less blocking...so what is a reasonable projection for him this year? i can't really see him getting consistent yardage, so i think he will be highly volatile from game to game, depending on whether he scores or not--although still exciting to watch, i may have to drive over for a Jags game this year

I've got it all figured out. McGuire is an idiot.

Great question. I'd be leary of projecting him too high. Think of hiom as WR4 type that you draft (ADP is round 17) after round 12 and realize he has some upside to perhaps WR2-3. His ADP will go up after last night, that you can be sure of. Where is the question?I have a draft this weekend and we'll see but I won't be surprised to see him go round 9-10.

Yeah, I'd like to get him as a wr 5 to be honost. I'd still want someone like a Santana Moss or a T.J. HOusmanzedeh as my Wr 4's.

He wont need to. He is the 3rd WR in Jacksonville. He will most likely see zone/nickel coverage

Had my 12 team auction keeper draft last night - had little money left over for WRs so I drafted a bunch of $1 players in the hopes that someone breaks out either this year or next: M Jones, M Jenkins, B Lloyd and Mark Clayton When I bid for Jones everyone mumbled about stud potential but no one stepped up to bid $2! So I'm on board!!! With starting WRs as Coles, R Smith and Keyshawn I'm gonna need him to develop sooner rather than later!!!!

Being from Arkansas myself, I have enjoyed watching Matt Jones play all through college. I just drafted him in my keeper league in the 14th round (not too high a price I might add to make sure I got him). I am playing the Bass Drum on this Bandwagon!!! BOOM, BOOM, BOOM!!! :P

I guess if the wagon is full, I can handle refilling the Kool-Aid bucket. I reached for Jones a couple months ago in my dynasty league at like 1.8, but have since drafted him in the last rounds of my 2 redrafts. Barely snagged him last night as I was 2 picks away in the last round when he made his catch and all the buzz started up again. I can't wait to see him on Sunday's making plays and listening to the announcers.

 I have the first of my two drafts today and I plan on adding him to my last minute christmas shopping list. I just no one else has taken notice of this guy .. Projected great 5th WR add to my WR wish listThanks guys.....

THE OFFICIAL BANDWAGON IS:

Def add me to this list. I've been following him for years at Arkansas, playing both Football and B-ball. This kid is going to be a stud by the 9-10 week of the season. Reggie Williams will end up taking a back seat to the real freak (sorry Kearse, but this kid is unlike any athlete we've seen today). He will change the receiver position forever. And he will def benefit from my boy J. Smith, who is a little old(36) but still sharp.

Been a Matt Jones fan for years, so count me in. I won't be drafting him early this year but if he's around at the end I'll pick him up just because I like his game.

If you want to see some INCREDIBLE highlight video of Matt Jones and several of his more electrifying runs while QB at Arkansas just look here:

Be sure and scroll down to where it says "The Extended Highlights" 5/02/2005

Matt Jones runs wild

Got to love a guy with the size of Ted Hendricks who runs with the speed of Joey Galloway.I'd love to see them bring him off the edge as a pass rusher in obvious passing downs. A pipe dream, I know, since he has to learn his new position and doesn't need distrations. But picture a 6'6" guy with long arms coming with the speed of a cornerback. The Q.B. would have to look.

LOL Righetti,I'd say it'll be a big train. I laughed when I saw that catch last night as I knew there were a bunch of us on this list that saw a cheap Matt Jones go out the window. Oh well.

J

count me in!
Holy #### this guy is amazing. Its so funny how all the defenders didnt think a white guy could run that fast. Thank God i got him in my sup draft today cause i was going to get him in the 15th round of my draft but decided not to. Wow this guy is going to be the Super sleeper steal of the draft hands down. Leftwich can chuck it and I cant wait to see this guy make a fool out of the defenders. The New Shockey of the NFL! :excited:

He'll be especially effective on the fade routes at 6'6" and around 40" vertical leaping ability.

those highlights are great

If there's room, I'd like to pile on the Matt Jones bandwagon.I'll even ride #####, ride in the trunk or lay up on that little back window ledge in the back seat if necessary.

In my dynasty league, I took a shot with him in the second round of our rookie draft back in May and took a little heat for it. I'm loving the pick these days.

You're Welcome.
However, if you watched more than that one play, you have seen the same set of skills in terms of catching the ball, eye hand, and pure athleticism. I have seen him seperate - on a ball that was barely overthrown deep into the endzone. What I expect Matt to struggle with early in his career will be route running and getting jammed at the line by big CBs... which there are less of with the new rules re: DBs and contact.

If you make a judgement off any one play, you are making a mistake. When you see abilities that you have only seen in a handful of other players, repeatedly, it is time to take notice.

It is time to take notice.

I snagged him today at #13 in our rookie-only phase. I had him targeted, and didn't think he'd fall to me, but then Orton and Morency went 11-12, and there he was. :pickle:

Seriously, Orton over Jones? Do you start 2 QBs?

Nope. 1QB (although 16 teams in the league).I was as stunned as anyone, especially with Smith, Rodgers, and Frye all still on the board.

Of course, a couple the guys who make head-scratcher picks in my league often seem to end up ahead of me in the standings, so who am I to judge?

Good point, and I know things have changed, but Orton was a 4th rounder just a couple months ago in my 16 team dynasty league. Jones, even though he's looking better than most thought possible, hasn't moved up at all. I took him as the 10th player, but then, maybe I reached? (FWIW, WRs get a premium in that league)

But until I see him be able to SEPERATE from a Bonafide startind CB in this league, I'll have my doubts.

Actually, that play impressed me MORE than the great catch. He didn't separate, and the ball wasn't barely overthrown. The ball was way overthrown, and two DBs were running full tilt for it few yards ahead of Jones. He put on some crazy afterburners and blew by both DBs making the ball look barely underthrown. He is freaky fast with that stride. Separation on the go route is no problem. The rest of his route running remains a question mark, but the upside here is way up.

Amazing. Pass some kool-aid to me please and someone move over, i'm jumping onboard.

I'm on. Got him twice in my first two leagues in R14, but after last night I may have to reach a little earlier to get him in my other two.
