Then on the 11th of December 1998 my Daughter was born.

Had the Vikings lost the NFC Title game in Jan. of 1998 like they did in Jan. of 1999 I am slightly concerned how I would have reacted..

I believe I went above and beyond being a "True" Viking fan when I wore my Viking jacket around town in Wisconsin the day after the Packers won their last Super Bowl.

Let's say the rumors of trading with Miami are true. Who would they target at #8? I'd think either one of the WR's or possibly even Kuechly. The reason for the latter is that the MLB has to be much more athletic than Brinkley if they're going to run the same Cover 2 scheme they have been.

Sounds about right but I think it would be a huge mistake to pass on Kalil for any of these other players.Any linebacker we draft needs to be able to cover. I like Mychal Kendricks and he could possibly still be available with our 3rd round pick. None of the other LB has really stood out to me. I think Kuechly would be a reach at pick 8. But I don't like the value of picks 7-15 much at all.I think this is a relatively deep draft so picking late 1st to mid 3rd round is the place to be after the top 6.

After doing many, many iterations of my final mock draft, I have come to the conclusion that Spielman will trade out of the #3 pick and it will be a mistake.

Miami will trade up to the #3 because they know that KC is willing to jump ahead of them for Tannehill.

Then, St. Louis will be able to take Kalil at #6 (even though no Fisher coached team has taken a tackle in the 1st before), leaving the Vikings to either take Reiff at #8 or be forced to trade up into the top half of the 1st to take someone like Martin, Adams, or Bobby Massie.

The best thing to do is stay where they're at, but I think there's a 75% chance (scientifically gauged, of course) that they'll trade out of the pick.

According to RotoWorld.com, ESPN's Adam Schefter said in a recent Q&A that the Minnesota Vikings will pass on Matt Kalil with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Schefter acknowledges that he's in the "minority" in this belief, and the Vikings have not finalized their draft-day decision. Schefter has hinted repeatedly on SportsCenter and NFL Live recently that Kalil is far from a lock at No. 3, though, and he takes it a step further in this Q & A session with fans. It would throw quite a wrench into the mock drafts.

According to the Viking Age, in the interview with ESPN Insider, Schefter said he would put his money on the table that the Vikings would pass up on Kalil.

Schefter is not the first person who has said the Vikings will not select Kalil, but he is the most important. If there is any opinion from the NFL that carries weight, it's Schefter's.

It would be crazy for the Vikings to stay with the third pick and not select Kalil. He is exactly what the team needs because of their huge hole at the left tackle position.

The Vikes were used to some decent play at the position when Bryant McKinnie was their starter. However, a good dose of laziness and gluttony meant McKinnie showed up to camp overweight a season ago. Therefore, the team eventually cut him and brought in a new starter.

Last season, Charlie Johnson played left tackle for the Vikings, while three different quarterbacks started under center. Christian Ponder was sacked 30 times in only 10 starts. Meanwhile, Joe Webb and Donovan McNabb were sacked a combined total of 19 times.

Allowing an average of three sacks per game is not something the Vikings should ever be proud of. Ponder will be the team's starter next season. However, if he is being sacked three or more times per game, he may never develop.

The Vikings need to bring in a No. 1 target at wide receiver, but they first need to give Ponder his insurance policy in Kalil.

At 6'7 and 306 pounds, Kalil has the ideal size to be an elite left tackle. He never allowed a sack in college. Even though the NFL is much different and he will likely allow a couple of sacks throughout his career, it shows that he knows how to protect a quarterback.

If Schefter is right and the Vikings do not select Kalil with the third overall pick in the draft, it must mean that Zygi Wylf and Rick Spielman have traded down with the Miami Dolphins or another team. It would not make sense otherwise.

I do not see why they wouldn't be sold on Kalil. Every other tackle prospect is talked about as needing seasoning, starting at RT or Guard until they are ready to play LT. Kalil is the only one talked about as being ready to take on the best of the best day one.I do think a trade down could still be worth it. But we need to get a deal close to what the Lambs got to make it so. I think Kalil is that valuable.If these guys are just saying this to make press then fine. You got me! Good one!

Ok, so I am bored and I have no life...let's play the "what if" game...I am in the "Take Kalil" camp but thought I would take a devil's advocate approach...

Let's say that the Vikings make a deal with the Dolphins...draft chart says that 1.03 should be worth about 1.08, 2.10 and 3.09. I would think that the Vikings could almost get the Dolphins 2nd third round pick (3.10) and give the Vikings 4.03 pick but let's just say that they do the first for a first, second and third...here is what it might look like both ways...

Vikings keep the 1.03:

1st round: Kalil

2nd round: Stephen Hill/Rueben Randle/best available WR or maybe a DB (Harrison Smith)

3rd round: Dwight Bentley/Jamell Fleming/best WR available if not picked in 2nd

Vikings make the trade:

1st round: Michael Floyd/Justin Blackmon (he may drop)

2nd round (Vikings): Mike Adams/Jeff Allen/Bobby Massie/Zebrie Sanders (best available OT - take your pick)

2nd round (Dolphins): Harrison Smith/best available DB

3rd round (Vikings): Bentley/Fleming/Dennard/best available DB

3rd round (Dolphins): Mike Martin/BPA

When looking at it that way, the players that they could gain by making the trade might be worth it. They could also package 2nd/3rd rounders to move up into the later first...something that they have to think about doing...

What's interesting about Schefter's answer is that he believes the Vikings will end up passing up on Kalil. We mentioned yesterday that they're targeting Kalil, Morris Claiborne and Justin Blackmon. Their decision will likely come down to those three players, if they don't trade down.

After reading this, I feel a little better. It seems like ideal speculation. Why the hell wouldn't St. Louis or Tampa take Kalil if he fell to them? Does Schefter think the Rams need more picks?

If Miami offered the 1.08 and OT Long, I'd personally do that in a heartbeat! I'm one who is hoping that they'll go Kalil at 1.03, but getting a VERY good OT *and* having the 1.08 to go Blackmon/Floyd/Claiborne or (if all are gone) someone like Reiff (OL would go from tha suck to pretty darned good in about 45-60 minutes on draft day)? You gotta do that...QUICKLY, before the Dolphins changed their minds.

Talking Miami into anything besides the 1.08 and Long? Well that'd just be icing on the cake. Playing with house money! If we can't pull the trigger on a deal like that, however, I'd just as soon see them stand pat at 1.03 and draft Kalil.

I wonder if the Bengals are coveting anyone high in this draft like Trent Richardson or Morris Claiborne? Ok this is ridiculous wishful thinking here but what if we traded the #3 for the #17 and #21 of Cincy plus their 2nd round pick this year and their 2nd next year. Now we trade the #21 pick to the Steelers for Mike Wallace and at #17 we grab a player like Johnathon Martin, Dre Kirkpatrick, or Stephon Gilmore. Then use the 2 number 2 picks to either grab a LT if we didnt get Martin and a safety like Barron if he slips or Harrison Smith. To me it just seems like the Vikings are destined to trade out of that pick and if we are going to lose out on Kalil then at least do something big like bring in Mike Wallace. So let's say we get Martin at #17 our offense would look pretty solid. I wonder if the Bengals are coveting anyone high in this draft like Trent Richardson or Morris Claiborne? Ok this is ridiculous wishful thinking here but what if we traded the #3 for the #17 and #21 of Cincy plus their 2nd round pick this year and their 2nd next year. Now we trade the #21 pick to the Steelers for Mike Wallace and at #17 we grab a player like Johnathon Martin, Dre Kirkpatrick, or Stephon Gilmore. Then use the 2 number 2 picks to either grab a LT if we didnt get Martin and a safety like Barron if he slips or Harrison Smith. To me it just seems like the Vikings are destined to trade out of that pick and if we are going to lose out on Kalil then at least do something big like bring in Mike Wallace. So let's say we get Martin at #17 our offense would look pretty solid. I like the trade better if we left Mike Wallace out. The ridiculous wishful thinking on my part would be if the Vikings could actually find a star with rookie pick at #21, you could have a starter making less than 2 M per year for the next 4 years. Mike Wallace would upset the entire team making 11 M plus per year. You would have a hard time re-signing Percy and the Vikings would have little cap room for future free agents (espesically since teams can carry that money over)

I think the trade with cinch could as the Rams and Browns seem high on Richardson. 17,21, a 2nd this and next year is about in line with the value. Perhaps a little late. There are a ton of indicators that jonathon Martins stock is dropping. He may be available at our 2nd round pick. If we had these picks I would like to go
