if the Vikings left town.What people who support the funding of stadiums with public dollars fail to mention is that the ~$650 million could go a LONG way towards infrastructure improvements, the recruitment of new businesses to the State (you know, companies that will provide many, MANY more good-paying jobs, sell more houses near said jobs, get more kids attending classes in the local school districts, et al), and/or reducing our tax burden and/or deficit. Yet here were are...talking about giving nine-figures of our money to billionaires, so that millionaires can play professional sports for a living.Two other thoughts:
1. How on Earth can any Republican who supports public money for stadium projects sleep at night?
Folks are basically running on a platform of smaller government and reducing "welfare," yet they are more than willing to bend over, grab their butt-cheeks, and say "I'm ready when you are, cowboy!" when the Pohlads, Taylors, or Wilfs come calling. I'll never forgive (or forget) the Republican representative from New Ulm and his leading the charge for a new Twins stadium using public money. Then practically in the same sentence/speech talking about how smaller government and tax cuts were the answer to fixing our problems as a State. The hypocrisy is absolutely astonishing! Yet the sheep and lemmings step up to the trough, asking for more.2. Why the #### doesn't any of the plans for a downtown stadium include a major parking garage structure? Or two? Or ten? Why use-up all of that tremendously valuable land for surface parking, when that land would be prime real estate for more white-collar companies to locate downtown. Seems like an incredible over-sight on the part of all-parties involved in discussing the downtown location. And even when the Twins played at Metrodome, I always thought: "why the #### are they using up city block after city block for parking down here?"

.500? No way...a win in the division is very unlikely, and "easier" games like STL and SEA are still on the road. I can maybe see them starting out 2-0, but another 2 wins on top of that is the only safe bet I would consider making at first glance. The late bye is really going to be tough, especially if Ponder and Harvin get nicked up often again like last year.'Herb said:

Right, right... I said .500 if things break right, "things" being a relatively small amount of injuries to key players, the team playing better than expected, taking care of the football, adding the right draft choices/ free agents, pulling out a couple wins we don't expect,etc. All things being equal, I'm thinking more like 4-6 wins. And a lot of praying that the 2013 season and beyond are still in MN.

They'd be settling for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, ??? place at the LT position if they do.And for the type of defense they're running, I can't understand why they'd be looking for an elite CB.It has got to be smokescreen.

How much money would say 2 Super Bowls bring to the state of Minnesota over the next 15-20 years if they build a state of the art stadium like Lucas Oil or Cowboy Stadium?yea you're right, I'm just pissed I guess and looking for anything to make me feel better

"Shutdown corner" is too hard of an honor to put on a player in today's NFL. See how Asomugha fit into PHI. Peterson was drafted early last year by ARI, and he went 5th overall (Haden went 7th, Revis went 14th, Pacman Jones went 6th years ago)- he had decent stats last season, but I don't think anybody would classify ARI as having a "shutdown corner" going into 2012. Claiborne seems way too early for 3rd overall. I think if you want a true shutdown corner, you need to go with a guy who has a resume of doing it in the NFL.
Likewise, if your QB can't stay upright, having Blackmon running fast routes isn't going to matter.

Most people expect them to draft Kalil but I won't be schocked if they draft Claiborne. The only reason for going down that path would be the coaching staffs utter frustration with this teams inability to produce turnovers. I was expecting them to dratft Tyron Smith last year if he got passed the Cowboys. You would think Kalil would be even better. So just in case they do go down that road, the Vikings might want to take a look at Donald Stephenson. Nolan Nawroki has said that he is first round left tackle athletically but there is a huge 'miss' factor with him.

If you need any more proof that politicians are bought and paid for it should be done after this.There has been plenty of talk of making Canterbury park a "Raciono" that would not only fund the Stadium, but also provide funds for other Tax payer expenses..Serious consequences

Yeah, no doubt. You have the largest and poorest Native American tribe in the state saying "We'll pay for the state's portion of the bill if you let us do what every other tribe in the state is doing, plus we'll give you more money on top of that." How is that not an instant yes? Keep the Vikings and taxpayers don't pay a dime? This should be option #1 IMO.The tribe casino is so amazing to me.. I am actually liking this Monty Haul pick the 3 doors shtick. I doubt any team will give us what I think it should take for us to draft anyone but Kalil. But maybe some fish are biting. Maybe there is already an offer made that would cause us to move the pick. I don't know who is going to win this game of chicken between the Vikings and the Browns if we trade down with the Bucs. If we traded with the Rams I am pretty sure they would be trading up for Kalil. I could see that happening and the Rams still profiting from their move down while also giving us some picks. This is what I am worried might actually happen. Then we need to be sure that either the Bucs or the Browns will take Richardson, so that either Claiborne (not likely) or Blackmon is still there to pick at 6. I think the price would need to be high to not take Kalil and a move like this is more risky for Spielman than staying put and drafting Kalil.

BTW- This may be FFA topical but the Vikes stadium situation set in stone my 2012 voting plan to vote against each and every incumbant. From the budget BS in 2011 to ongoing political shenanigans in recent days, this legislature is utterly worthless. They are there to do a job, and tying back to the Vikes situation that job is to vote on behalf of their constituents either for or against the stadium bill; not to stall something out in an orchestrated committee vote that spares other legislators from being on the record either way in an election year. It's embarrassing. If a legislator feels his/her constituents do not support a stadium, then vote no and deal with the political consequences from the opposition. That's your job.

Had the legislature voted for or against a stadium bill, obviously those would be polar opposite facts. In that scenario, my opinion of the legislature would change because it would show they are doing their job - agree or disagree with the outcome. Then one could decide whether individual legislators voted your voice, but it would not be an indictment on the legislature as a whole. I don't believe for a second they will put this up for a vote. At present, my impression is this legislature as a whole is hell bent on rhetorical games to safeguard political careers. And again it's not just the stadium topic, this Legislature acted appallingly during the budget fiasco last year.
