***Official MLB 2013 Season Thread (1 Viewer)

That Fernando Rodney 2012 season is going to go down as one of the greatest anomaly seasons ever. Brady Anderson-esque.

Anthony Gose just scored from 2nd on a passed ball.
Gonna need to see a video of that.
From phone but this should work.@BlueJays: Want to see Anthony Gose score from second on a passed ball? Of course you do: http://t.co/beWhmXtgPk #LoveThisTeam
He looked out to me.
DAMN close!! Even breaking it down frame by frame it's hard to tell. But it seems at worst it was a tie, and a good call. (sorry for the terrible links, on my phone)

Gose isn't in, and Weiters doesn't seem to have him

Gose just about in, but Weiters still doesnt have him

Weiters might finally have him here, too late.

eta: links fixed

That was a stupid play actually. He is probably out at least 50% of the time.
It's an okay (not great) play with a 2 run lead, IMO. If they were trailing or tied, I'd agree it's really dumb. I'm just worried what Brett Lawrie will try to do to one up him.

eta: sorry links are a mess ill fix them later when I'm off my phone
It's the throw that sucked, Casilla triple pumped on a 50 foot throw and still sailed it too high for the tag.

Yup, and Weiters throw to second didn't help either. Why even bother with the runner on third?

Buster Olney ‏@Buster_ESPN 11h

Miguel Cabrera is on pace to finish with these numbers: A .391 batting average; 101 EBH (47 2B, 4 3B, 50 HRs); 140 runs; 198 RBI.

Didn't take him too long. Did he go bazeerk on the umpire?
Not at all. Ump's an attention whore clown

Texas/Seattle, bottom 2nd. 1st and 2nd, no outs. Batter hits to first, he chucks to 2nd for the force, guy chucks it back. 1st basemen is covering, pitcher came over in case to cover. Both stretch with first basemen touching bag and pitcher is like 5 feet down to line stretching toward first base, pitcher catches it without even being close to touching the base, ump calls runner out because he apparently saw the first basemen catch the ball but pitcher immediately had grabbed ball out of glove so he could have seen immediately he blew it.

Perez departs with an injury before he gets a chance to completely blow a 3-run 9th inning lead.

5-4, bases loaded, 2 outs, 2-1 count.

Not really. He didn't say anything after the AB although he did complain after the 2nd strike (which was clearly high). After the K, he dropped his bat and helmet, started walking towards 3rd and threw his batting gloves back towards the plate and got tossed. Not really warranted IMO.

And then he puts on a cry baby display today...

ETA: Link to Lawrie getting chewed out by Gibbons. Lawrie was crying because Lind didn't attempt to tag up on a shallow fly when the Jays were down 2 in the 9th.

I guess the bottom finally fell out on BJ Upton. Benched for the 2nd day in a row...when the Braves could use a DH nonetheless.

This keeps up I may finally own Upton again next year. Love power/speed guys with low averages and high volatility, but prefer to buy them on a down swing a la McLousy and Kelly Johnson.

Seems like kind of a dumb argument. Ackley's plate discipline was his calling card when he progressed rapidly through the Mariners' minor league system. He had more BB than SO at every level.

His major league swing percentages have been pretty consistent since he's been in the bigs. His O, Z and total swing percentages are all lower than the MLB averages but not by a lot. He isn't making as much contact at this level and he's striking out twice as often as he walks. For a guy with limited power, a 19% K rate isn't very good.

Wedge watches every AB so maybe there's something there with Ackley's approach early in the count. But it could also be trying to shift blame away from a guy who'll be fired before long.

LOL @ Maholm throwing an eephus to Jose Bautista.
A real one? Link?
62mph is too fast for a true Eephus. I saw the replay. The pitch didn't have any extreme arc to it; it just looked like a slow curveball. Bautista got all of it though.
Looks like he fooled him with the pitch too. But it was so damn slow that Bautista was able to recover. It also was right over the middle of the plate

I don't mind growing pains but holy cow not even a strikeout from a guy that throw 99 against a lineup with no Harper, no Espinoza?
To be fair, the probability of a strikeout likely dropped with Espinosa out of the lineup.

most rookie pitchers arent. I dont bother with them anymore
Usually don't either, with Odorizzi drawing the Marlins and watching Gausman pitch last week I gave it a dice roll. Snake eyes. Oh well. Roberto Hernandez and Shaun Marcum draw the fish this week, hope they can bring me back a bit.
