***Official MLB 2013 Season Thread (2 Viewers)

Not sure if it's a terribly useful article, but if you feel like spending a few minutes reading about how awful Delmon Young is (and who doesn't), this faketeams article is worth the read.

http://www.faketeams.com/2013/6/28/4472036/delmon-young-scouting-report-baseball-america-failed-prospects
Exactly, I know I do

- Can't walk

- Possible strikeout issues

- 32 stolen bases, but 12 caught stealing

- Potentially a bad outfielder

For these efforts, Young was ranked as the top prospect in baseball in 2006.

Young basically started the season with a 50-game suspension for being a ####. Crashburn Alley also points out that 2006 was the year that Young started rooming with noted ****, Elijah Dukes.

"Makeup questions also popped up when the Rays allowed him to room with outfielder Elijah Dukes, and suddenly the club’s top prospect appeared to have a short fuse." –Kline

Yasiel Puig has 44 hits in his first 100 career AB.

The last player with 44 hits in his first 100 career AB was Earle Combs in 1924.

The Pirates are on pace for 102 wins.
They don't make ESPN but they're a really good team

You've never been wrong before huh?
I dont act arrogant about it when I am
Says the guy who is bumping posts from December. Please provide a link to where I was arrogant in that exchange with you. By the way, the whole basis for that exchange was you claiming the Pirates should not trade away Hanrahan so thanks for bumping that little gem.

Here's a hint: Premier expresses confusion that the Pirates are on pace for 100 wins. You reply that theyre a good team and use the shrug guy as if it was obvious all along.

Not surprised that you misinterpreted my use of the shrug  I was wrong about this team in December but my response to Cappy was simply to indicate that I think they're a good team now. No arrogance was intended. Nice that you felt the need to interject

It's July 1, so that means Bobby Bonilla got a check for $1,193,248.20 today, just as he will every July 1 through 2035. That's due to a deferral clause from when the Mets bought out the final year of Bonilla's contract before the 2000 season.

The deal was signed by the Marlins in 1996, but Bonilla was traded to the Dodgers in the 1998 blockbuster that involved Gary Sheffield and Mike Piazza. Bonilla was later flipped to the Mets. He then only played 60 games in 1999, hitting .160/.277/.303, so the Mets saw fit to get rid of him before the 2000 season instead of paying him $5.9 million that year.

And now they'll be paying him a bit more than four times that -- just stretched out over 25 years.

And just because it's awesome, here's our Bobblehead Project rendering of Bonilla getting his dough in 2035:

“I don’t debate, this guy is outstanding,” Maddon said of Cabrera. “He’s wonderful. I just wish he wouldn’t cry so much.”

Maddon might be losing his mind, he never shuts his big ####### mouth:

Is he the white Ozzie Guillen now?
Miguel Cabrera is too good to be pitched inside? He incited the entire thing. If I was one of his teammates I'd tell him to shut the eff up too so I don't get drilled because of his whining.

Maddon with the last laugh bringing Farnsworth in to face him while Peralta got loose. Cabrera was flinching on every pitch.

MLB has fired 14-year veteran umpire Brian Runge for a violation of the league drug policy, according to the Associated Press. Runge is believed to be the first umpire punished under big league random drug testing protocols.

Former big-league player Milton Bradley has been sentenced to 960 days in jail and must perform 400 hours of community service for abusing his estranged wife.

From the Associated Press:

Prosecutors say Bradley threatened and attacked his wife five times in 2011 and 2012. In one incident, Bradley pushed his wife against a wall and choked her after she asked him to stop smoking marijuana in front of their children and wanted his friends to leave their home.

Bradley, 35, had a 12-year career with many peaks and valleys. He never spent more than three seasons with a team -- playing for the Indians, Athletics, Dodgers, Expos, Mariners, Rangers, Padres and Cubs -- and never came close to living up to his lofty potential due to injury and anger issues.

His best season came in 2008, when he was an All-Star and led the American League with a .999 OPS. He had a disaster of a season with the Cubs the following year and then hit just .209 the following two seasons for the Mariners before being essentially forced into retirement

Tigers and Jays trade touchdowns early.
As my weekly team gets fistered

The guy has to be top 5 aggravating pitches to own this year. When he's on, the d behind him or the run support (or both) are MIA. When's he's off, he's this
1st four batters in first:

Infield hit that should have been an error on Prince

HBP

Single

PB on Avila

Double

Then the double scored on another infield single that should have been an out. Not great for sure but he's not getting any help even when they are giving him run support (rare). I have him in my main league too, just glad he settled down so it wasn't a complete disaster. Him giving up that homer to Rasmus had me fuming though because I need wins more than anything.

To me, it's an absolute joke, Papelbon told MLB Network Radio when asked about Puig's All-Star candidacy. Its really kind of stupid if you ask me.The guy's got a month, I don't even think hes got a month in the big leagues, Papelbon said during the interview. Just comparing him to this and that, and saying hes going to make the All-Star team, that's a joke to me.

.443/.473/.745 with 8 dingers, 17 RBI, 21 runs. Stealing bases. Hosing people. It's an All-Star game. If this kid isn't considered a "star" I don't know who is, and if he's not they should just shut it down.

Papelbon is a doosh factory. Almost hate him as much as Shilling.

Yeah, for most any definition or purpose one gives to the AS game, Puig's gotta be there.

For me, it's mainly 2 things It's entertainment for the fans and a chance to see good and exciting players. You might also consider it a pick-up game where managers do actually have some incentive to win it. If I'm trying to win one game on July 16th 2013 and I have my pick of all NL players, I'm taking Puig with one of the first few picks.

This is the key factor. Not that I agree with Papelbon, but if someone wanted to say Puig's overall stats are not All-Star worthy then I can't argue with it. However, if we are to believe that the game "counts", then you've got to put the best team you possibly can on the field. That means Puig comes into the game in the 4th inning and stays in it til the end. Get him his 3 ABs in which he will clearly hit at least 2 HR, and give the NL a good shot to win.
