nobody cares about the Marlins
Nobody really cares all that much about the Raptors either though, and for the rest of his life Vince Carter will be the guy who turned on his team with the lollygagging and the fake injuries and whatnot on his way out. Why is this different? Maybe because the Raptors have a lot of hard-core fans in Toronto that love the team and nobody in Miami cares about the Marlins?nobody cares about the Marlins

Problem is they have plenty of holes on the roster and they don't have the position prospects to fill them. Seeing as ownership is completely leveraged, they're not going to be spending anymore money on payroll anytime soon.Michael Brown said:Think Gee turns into a bullpen arm for them down the line, probably a solid one. Could use another arm out of the pen. But yeah been telling my dad for a couple years that he just needs to be patient for the run that is coming from 2014 on. Might've been a year optimistic, but assuming these pitchers stay healthy this will be a good team very soon.
Because Hanley Ramirez should. He was getting paid a ton of money, and people were paying to see him and the team he was supposed to play for.Eephus said:If Jeffrey Loria doesn't care about his team and fanbase, why should I?TobiasFunke said:Nobody really cares all that much about the Raptors either though, and for the rest of his life Vince Carter will be the guy who turned on his team with the lollygagging and the fake injuries and whatnot on his way out. Not saying he's Josh Lueke or something like that, just saying it's weird that everyone's giving him a pass for dogging it for 2 years. That's the kind of thing sports fans usually frown upon.
He's not a pitcher. BABIP for hitters fluctuates based on quality of contact being made. Higher LD%= higher BABIP. I also recall him being hurt a lot in 2011.
Other than one incident of him kicking a ball into the outfield I dont remember people thinking he was dogging it in Miami. Maybe thats the differenceHe's not a pitcher. Yeah, he was hurt a bit. So was Vince Carte in Toronto.
Like I said, it's not that he's a criminal like Josh Lueke or Miguel Cabrera or something. Just saying I find it weird that nobody seems bothered by it they way people usually are bothered when athletes pull this routine in other sports.
BABIP for hitters can be just as random as for pitchers, especially over a small sample size. He's not a pitcher. BABIP for hitters fluctuates based on quality of contact being made. I absolutely think he was putting forth less than 100% effort in Florida and that it showed in his production. I don't know if he was skipping film prep or his offseason training was lax (two things that could affect hitter BABIP and HR/FB rates) or he didn't work hard to recover from injury, or what. But the correlation seems too strong to just write off as coincidence, especially since he was benched for lack of effort in 2010 and was called out by his teammates during his time in Florida as well.BABIP for hitters can be just as random as for pitchers, especially over a small sample size. He's not a pitcher. Do you really think he wasn't trying to drive the ball when he was in Florida? Can you attribute below par HR/FB and BABIP numbers to lack of effort? Basketball and baseball are very different sports. When basketball players loaf or hoist up ill advised shots, it has a much greater impact on the greater good. In baseball, fans single out players who don't run out ground balls but this is more symbolic than impactful in the grand scheme of the game. 99% of the time, it really doesn't matter if someone is thrown out by 5 or 20 feet on a 6-3 grounder.
The correlation is too strong?!?!? Player performance fluctuates, especially in sample sizes this small. Plus, this isn't a Manny situation. He didn't start crushing as soon as he was traded to the Dodgers. Hell, he's been off the field a ton this season, he's just happened to crush it for the barely more than 200 PAs he's gotten.I absolutely think he was putting forth less than 100% effort in Florida and that it showed in his production. Fair enough, still a small sample size for his "renaissance." I'll just say it's kind of an eyebrow-raiser at this point, especially with the several reports out of Miami when he was there. The correlation is too strong?!?!? Anibal Sanchez must have been dogging it tooFair enough, still a small sample size for his "renaissance." I'll just say it's kind of an eyebrow-raiser at this point, especially with the several reports out of Miami when he was there.
When? He pitched 190+ innings each of the three years since he became a full-time starter in Florida, with FIPs of 3.32, 3.35 and 3.53 and fWARs of 4.2, 3.6 and 3.7 before posting a 2.41 FIP and a 4.2 fWAR with a bunch of starts left. Ramirez went from a consistent 7 fWAR player to a 4 fWAR player to a 1 fWAR player in a half-season to a 2.9 fWAR player in a full season and is now a 3.6fWAR player in a third of a season.Anibal Sanchez must have been dogging it tooFair enough, still a small sample size for his "renaissance." Right, what he said...Reports are that Phillies are going to let go Manuel at 2:30 press conference.
I want to see him out of the game as much as anyone, but there is this thing called an appeal. The same process you would be entitled to, you big goof.Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey said he should not have to face New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez this weekend in light of Rodriguez receiving a 211-game suspension for his role in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal.Lackey is scheduled to pitch on Saturday at Fenway Park in the second game of a three-game set against the Yankees.
“I’ve got a problem with it. You bet I do,” Lackey told the Boston Globe. ”How is he still playing? He obviously did something and he’s playing. I’m not sure that’s right. … It’s pretty evident he’s been doing stuff for a lot of years I’ve been facing him.”
exactly. Players bargained to have the right to an appeal. Lackey is a clownI want to see him out of the game as much as anyone, but there is this thing called an appeal. I kind of got the sense that this was his last year regardless.Did Manuel retire or get fired? Cuz to fire a WS winning manager after his first losing season on a team with a bunch of injured veterans is an absolute joke.
:Fired on the day the team was supposed to celebrate Manuel's 1000th career win. Absolute disagrace to not only fire him before the end of the season given his history and how many injuries they had, but on a night that his career was supposed to be celebrated by the organization. Absolutely unbelievable.shadyridr said:Did Manuel retire or get fired? Cuz to fire a WS winning manager after his first losing season on a team with a bunch of injured veterans is an absolute joke.
The way they did it was ####ty. But firing Manuel wasn't much of a surprise. The team has been sad to watch. Their run differential is 3rd worst in the majors. Since the ASB, they are 5-20 which by my count was the worst in the majors. Only team who came close to that are the Stros who are 6-21. The team stopped playing for him. Players took blame. Sandberg mentioned the "lackadaisical play" and when you are rebuilding, that is about the worst thing. Don't need the young guys to learn bad habits from guys like Rollins.shadyridr said:Did Manuel retire or get fired?
