Manny Machado was pretty seriously injured just now. They are checking out knee but I'm wondering if it might not be a break (hopefully a break vice an ACL). Just hit the bag awkwardly, real shame for one of the best young stars in the game.

You know I'm a huge homer but the Rays should not have tagged him there. I get playing for the playoffs and all but I thought that was very poor sportsmanship.

Bummer. But the Orioles were already out of it after losing three over the weekend in Tampa Bay, and there's a decent chance he's back for Opening Day.

Perhaps a greater tragedy yesterday was Halladay. One of the great pitchers of our lifetimes, and he's a complete mess two seasons after being the runner-up for the Cy Young. 36 year olds athletes falling apart is not unusual, but something is really wrong with him. He's been a red-faced, sweaty mess any time he's taken the mound this year, and last night he was pouring sweat in the first inning in an indoor facility and he looked even worse than normal. His pitches were all registering as change-ups on PitchFX because he couldn't top 83. Something's seriously wrong with him- I think they said something about a "genetic diet-related illness" but it's hard not to wonder about drugs, maybe painkillers or something given the surgery and the fact that he's an old starting pitcher.

Anyway, hope he's OK and gets to come back next year to say goodbye on better terms.

 what should they have done, let him lay there? carry him to the bag? he was in play and the play was still alive. its not like he ran over and gave a hard tag.

If it makes you feel any better, the exact same situation happened with Allen Craig a few weeks ago and Votto tagged him in an almost identical way.

the runners advanced when Dave Dravecky's arm fell off

Nice dust-up in Atlanta involving the Brewers' Carlos Gomez chirping around the bases at Paul Maholm after taking him way out. McCann met Gomez about 30 feet up the third base line and a brawl ensued.

How do these things always keep happening to the Braves?

McCann has always been kind of a red a*s

Carlos Gomez is a punk ### #####.

:lmao: :lmao:

Last week it was Chris Johnson sprinting down the line and acting all tough while running around Fernandez and staying behind McCann. Check out Reed Johnson at 3:33 of this video He is literally dragging the coach in front of him so as to appear he is being held back. :lmao: :lmao:

And how the hell do they not eject McCann and Johnson in that game? One guy stopped a player from crossing home plate and acted like a complete doosh the entire time. The other guy is the only guy to have thrown a punch.

So dumb

Nah I don't fault McCann at all on that one. Gomez took it to the extreme so McCann followed suit. Good for him defending his pitcher, I'm more disappointed that he didn't drop Gomez immediately on arrival.

Yeah, probably just a coincidence that this is the third time he and the Braves have been involved in one of these things in the last two months.

So you just let an opposing player show up your pitcher from the second he walked to the plate while screaming at him while walking around the bases in your home park? Got it.

Well, first I'd probably advise my pitcher that a guy hitting a HR off you is not a bean-able offense, but Maholm apparently hadn't gotten that message because he beaned Gomez twice before, including one to the knee.

Gomez went over the line, but he head every right to talk a little #### considering Maholm's history of beaning him for no good reason. And if going over the line is a sin, McCann is every bit as guilty for blocking the plate on a HR trot. Has anyone ever pulled that crap before? That's basically begging for a fight- how else is the guy gonna touch the plate without shoving you?

Ultimately none of us knows what these guys say to each other on the field. But you gotta admit this happens way too often to the Braves/McCann to be coincidence. Not to mention the fact that they don't practice what they preach- Justin Upton can pimp a HR with the best of 'em.

:goodposting:

There's always some history behind these incidents. And it just so happens that the Braves have pissed a lot of teams off and then act like children when someone shows them up for it.
