Koji Uehara finished the year with 100 strikeouts and only 9 walks. Random trivia, but first time any one finished the year with 100 K and less than 10 BB

Indians finished 28th in attendance, Tampa 30th. If they play Wednesday in Cleveland they'll have to bus in some homeless folks to fill the stands like they do in Atlanta. :thumbup:

 
Marlins to sell no-hitter tickets
Marlins Pitcher Henderson Alvarez made history on Sunday by tossing the fifth no-hitter in franchise history and the first no-hitter at Marlins Park. The Marlins are offering fans who were unable to attend the game the opportunity to purchase the remaining unsold tickets from yesterday's game. The tickets can be bought at marlins.com/alvareznono and the Marlins Team Store located at Marlins Park.

Tickets went on sale today and will be available until Sunday, October 6th at midnight. The 9,100 remaining tickets are being sold starting at $15 with the majority of tickets available at the Vista Level.

A crowd of 28,315 was at Marlins Park for Closing Day and witnessed Alvarez pitch the historic game, beating the Detroit Tigers 1-0. Alvarez's no-hitter is the fourth since the start of 1900 to be thrown on the final day of the regular season.

I don't like it. It's smart for MLB to do. I just don't like it.

I get it though. Sports fans aren't generally built to care for a 162 game season any more and they certainly love single elimination scenarios far more than series'. Smart move for MLB to get in on that ADD sports fan action that cares more about excitement than crowning a deserving champion.

Hell, if MLB was really smart, they'd make it an 8-team single-elimination tournament for the 4th playoff spot in each League. That would be wildly popular.

I just wish it was a best of 3 series. But, I still like it better than not at all.

My WS pick:

Pirates v. Red Sox (Sox in 5)

Pirates are kind of a desire pick, but I love their starting pitching and think it's built great for the NL playoffs. Marte and Grilli healthy. I just feel like they'll be very tough to beat. Red Sox seem like the best team in baseball right now and the only offense that I think can really manhandle any team.

Sure, but at least you guys have been GOOD for the last several years. Pirates fans who have stuck with this team through thin and thin deserve a little happiness. Either way though, both teams are easy to root for. Here's to a good game. :banned:

 
LOT of cool teams to root for in these playoffs. Part of me wants the Red Sox out right away, but part of me wouldn't mind seeing them in the WS just so I have a huge rooting interest for whoever goes from the NL. In terms of who I want to win the most:

A's (Moneyball!)

Rays (ultimate underdogs)

Pirates (see Rays)

Indians (Juuuuuuust a bit outside)

Reds (my preseason pick to win it all)

Dodgers (though I would have a tough time rooting against a Donnie Baseball-led team)

Tigers (my FIL is a big fan, wouldn't mind if they won for him)

As long as the Red Socks choke on a D and die I'm ok with anyone winning. I'd sort of like to see the A's win just to see a good old school post championship riot.

 
Pittsburgh has had a lot of success with the Pens and Steelers. I don't hate them but don't feel any sympathy either.

Obviously rooting for the Rays, then everybody else other than the Red Sox. They can go #### themselves.

 
I have 200 million more reasons than usual to root against the Dodgers. The sentimentalist in me is rooting for Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

But you really have to local to appreciate how tough it's been to be an Oakland fan the past few years. I'll gladly put up with a year's worth of abuse from my A's fan friends to have the title stay in the Bay Area for another year.

 
After the Rays, I'd love to pull for CC and LA...he was a great guy here. Unfortunately LA is also the home of Hanley.

I'll probably be pulling for the Tigers if Rays lose....would like to see Miggy and Verlander with a ring.

It would normally be hard to pick a team to root for here because I consider these two teams my favorites when it comes to what I was exposed to during rain delays in the late 70s into the 80s.

Any of The Big Red Machine (mid 70s) and The Family ('79) World Series highlight packages were awesome viewing and it created a soft spot in me for both of these teams.

And then I see a shot of the Reds dugout and see Dusty Baker in there.

This isn't playoff baseball. One game does not a series make.This is the NCAA basketball "play-in game" on a Tuesday, where they convince the schools they are in the NCAA tournament.

Nah it's a playoff baseball game. It just doesn't feel like the playoffs.

That makes no sense but whatever. I guess what I mean is one of these teams very well could win it all, while that basketball play in features 12 and 16 seeds.
