The Phillies' minor league pitching prospects aren't good enough to bring a MLB regular bat in return. Trevor May had a poor year. Biddle and Colvin are too far away.

The Padres reportedly wanted Dan Straily at the deadline. The Phillies don't have any Major League ready pitching of that caliber right now. Jesse Biddle could be there in a year or two.

A lot of the rankings I saw had Strailey behind Biddle (Who has an ETA of 2014) and even with May who had an ETA of 2013. May didnt start well but he finished with a very impressive August line

Newly hired hitting coach Steve Henderson was BJ's hitting coach in Tampa and people are assuming it's to help get BJ signed. Amaro has been in touch with his agent and other baseball people are saying he is our number 1 target.

97.5 is reporting that the Phils offered BJ Upton 5/55M. Sounds like they weren't really serious about signing him. Maybe they were just getting Atlanta to spend more.

Revere is cost controlled for five years. His splits are pretty good and he doesn't have an unsustainable BABIP given his speed. He'd be more valuable if he could increase his BB% a bit. He's young and doesn't strike out a lot (unlike Bourn) so the walks may come.He has zero power and likely never will but a cheap contributor at a key defensive position has a lot of value.Ben Revere!!!!!!

The FA dollars guys are getting is ridiculous.. If anything, revere is cheap and I agree 100%. Bourn is not worth that.. Neither was Victorio to Boston.. Yet another lefty in the line up with Zero, zero, zero home runs in over 1000 ABs. I think there were better options but the asking price prob was too high

Long time Twins fan here. Revere will make some spectacular plays in the outfield with his legs and glove but he may have the worst arm in MLB. Yep, very comparable player right now. Revere has increased his BB% each year so there's a chance maybe he can become a more traditional lead-off hitter, but at a minimum you're getting an elite fielder with elite speed who can hit for average a little. Zero arm and very little power, but a pretty good player who is fun to have on your team. I like the move, it gives us a true lead off hitter and some much needed speed back to the lineup.
They may have given up a little too much and now have a hole in the rotation but I'm excited to see if the Young trade works out. Still need another OF with a bat. Although they somehow need to work Galvis into more playing time

Excellent breakdown. This basically sums up everything I've just learned this week about the guy. Fast, great at defense, no power, probably hit .300. Sounds like a good 2 hole hitter.If the Michael Young thing comes through, that adds a 3B for relatively cheap as well. Then maybe the long shot of Hamilton. Amaro does like the big deal and can usually pull it off. Lets see what he has in store.

The Rangers are getting reliever Josh Lindblom and Minor League pitcher Lisalverto Bonilla in the trade with the Phillies for infielder Michael Young, according to a souce. Lindblom was 3-5 with a 3.55 ERA in 74 games with the Dodgers and Phillies this past season. The deal is done and expected to be announced soon.

Chally won't/ can't run Jimmy out there to bat lead off. I think a big part of this deal was becuse Revere can be the lead off hitter of the future. I'm thinking: RevereUtleyYoungHowardRuiz/ RollinsRollins/RuizRuffBrownThey have to get another OFer though. He'll be a 7 inning guy (subbing Galvis in for D purposes)by the end of the year. It's a good move and he'll produce some....but he's on his last legs.To me, the Phils biggest problem comes from the limitations of the manager. They've got some flexibility with Young (1B,2B,SS(maybe)3B), Utley (1B,2B), Galvis (2B,SS,assuming 3B). They've got Brown and Ruf. If they don't get Hamilton....I'm assuming they're going to have to find flexible guys to platoon amongst both LF and RF. I don't think Manuel's philosophy is right for a team that needs to continually be moving players around. If they #### the bed in April.....Manuel will be gone.

Between being able to start for Rollins, Utley (either as rest for Chase or for Chase starting for a resting Howard) and Young, with any other manager, Galvis should be on the field for a good amount of time. Yeah, no indication that they were close, just that the deal was offered at 3/80 (as mentioned above).Gerry Fraley (Rangers' beat writer for anyone who doesn't know) was on with those guys on Monday and said that the Rangers told Josh to come back to them with any offers before making a decision, as you suggested above.He also said that Young got Hamilton to play maybe 30 games that he wouldn't have otherwise due to his personality and not wanting to play sometimes. So that could be interesting.
