The Padres reportedly wanted Dan Straily at the deadline. The Phillies don't have any Major League ready pitching of that caliber right now. A lot of the rankings I saw had Strailey behind Biddle (Who has an ETA of 2014) and even with May who had an ETA of 2013. May's first and second half splits are almost identical. 2013 is a huge year for him. I think if the Phillies deal him now, they may be selling low.A lot of the rankings I saw had Strailey behind Biddle (Who has an ETA of 2014) and even with May who had an ETA of 2013. Newly hired hitting coach Steve Henderson was BJ's hitting coach in Tampa and people are assuming it's to help get BJ signed. Amaro has been in touch with his agent and other baseball people are saying he is our number 1 target. Now get BJ Upton, trade for Fowler and get Madsen and Myers back. Too much? Lol
Revere is cost controlled for five years. His splits are pretty good and he doesn't have an unsustainable BABIP given his speed. He'd be more valuable if he could increase his BB% a bit. He's young and doesn't strike out a lot (unlike Bourn) so the walks may come.He has zero power and likely never will but a cheap contributor at a key defensive position has a lot of value.Ben Revere!!!!!!For both Worley AND May?? Doesn't sound like a good deal to me, but I guess it's better than giving Bourn 5/80.

Well that eases concerns, thanks for the breakdown Eephus. Your knowledge and posts are appreciated.Assuming he's our new leadoff hitter? If not where does he fit in, bottom of the order? Don't forget we have that stud leadoff guy in Rollins, who doesn't really want to hit anywhere but leadoff.Revere is cost controlled for five years. Long time Twins fan here. Revere will make some spectacular plays in the outfield with his legs and glove but he may have the worst arm in MLB. No hyperbole there - it's truly laughable.Decent player that I bet the fans will enjoy.Pretty shocking for Twins fans as everyone assumed he would slide over the CF with the recent trade of Span.Revere is cost controlled for five years. The Phillies are selling low on May who had a rough season at Reading. Worley had a lot of success as a rookie but his 2012 season was closer to what I'd expect given his minor league record.Philadelphia was in a position to sell some SPs but they've really cut into their depth if any of the rotation is injured.Thanks. Yep, very comparable player right now. Revere has increased his BB% each year so there's a chance maybe he can become a more traditional lead-off hitter, but at a minimum you're getting an elite fielder with elite speed who can hit for average a little. Zero arm and very little power, but a pretty good player who is fun to have on your team. I didn't really want the Twins to trade him, but what they got back is outstanding as a Twins' fan.Revere can take Juan Pierre's locker and jersey numberLong time Twins fan here. Nice. Now go get Hamilton, Ruben.Michael Young expected to approve trade today.
Nah. He's been around for a bit. But he's a good player that bats for average and he's relatively cheap for a year or 2.Woah for some reason I though Young was much younger (no pun intended). i still like it but for some reason I thought we were getting a guy we could use for 5 years easily.
He's on the last year of his deal.Possible lineup?Revere is probably best used at 2 hole, but then you have three LH in a row. Two of which can't hit LH pitching. Not sure where to bat Young but I want to break up Utley and Howard so.RollinsRevereYoungHowardRuizUtleyRufBrownThoughts? Have a hard time believing Cholly will move Jimmy from leadoff spot.Nah. Chally won't/ can't run Jimmy out there to bat lead off. I think a big part of this deal was becuse Revere can be the lead off hitter of the future. I'm thinking: RevereUtleyYoungHowardRuiz/ RollinsRollins/RuizRuffBrownThey have to get another OFer though. You can have Brown and Ruff going everyday and you can't have Young and Ruff on the same side of the field everyday.'Snotbubbles said:He's on the last year of his deal.Possible lineup?Revere is probably best used at 2 hole, but then you have three LH in a row. He'll be a 7 inning guy (subbing Galvis in for D purposes)by the end of the year. It's a good move and he'll produce some....but he's on his last legs.To me, the Phils biggest problem comes from the limitations of the manager. They've got some flexibility with Young (1B,2B,SS(maybe)3B), Utley (1B,2B), Galvis (2B,SS,assuming 3B). They've got Brown and Ruf. If they don't get Hamilton....I'm assuming they're going to have to find flexible guys to platoon amongst both LF and RF. I don't think Manuel's philosophy is right for a team that needs to continually be moving players around. If they #### the bed in April.....Manuel will be gone.Nah. He's been around for a bit. He's not a 5 hole hitter either.Young'd not a 3 hole hitter anymore. He'll either be the 5 hole or if we get Hamilton, he'll be the 6 or 7.

Chase doesn't have a good enough arm to play 3b. Jimmy could do it though. Between being able to start for Rollins, Utley (either as rest for Chase or for Chase starting for a resting Howard) and Young, with any other manager, Galvis should be on the field for a good amount of time. But Chollie loves to run his horses....so I'm half expecting a couple of the vets to break down by Sept.'belljr said:If they are reporting it there is something thereGlen Macnow:My radio partner, Anthony Gargano, has it from a good source that the Phils have offered Josh Hamilton a three-year contract. It's real. Anthony Gargano of 610WIP in Philly said he knows from a very reliable source he has that the Phillies have offered Hamilton a 3 year deal.is this Hamilton rumor for real? seeing in my twitter feed that it was sourced back to a fake Jon Heyman twitter account.

understood. but the only thing i saw posted here from them was that a deal was offered. It's been long and well reported here (in the Rangers market) that Josh would field offers, but give the Rangers a chance to come in at the end.any word on the $ amount of the Phillies offer?I didn't hear it but if Cuz and Macnow are reporting it, it's has to be real. Yeah, no indication that they were close, just that the deal was offered at 3/80 (as mentioned above).Gerry Fraley (Rangers' beat writer for anyone who doesn't know) was on with those guys on Monday and said that the Rangers told Josh to come back to them with any offers before making a decision, as you suggested above. He also said that Young got Hamilton to play maybe 30 games that he wouldn't have otherwise due to his personality and not wanting to play sometimes. So that could be interesting.gotcha, thanks.the rumors i was reading claimed that they were "close to a deal". i guess that's the fake part. It's real.
