I will be targeting Altherr hard in my draft next year. Sky is the limit with that guy.
With their financial flexibility, this team should be very good by 2019 at the latest.CentralPA said:So for next season we are most likely looking at a starting lineup like this:
Crawford
Hernandez
Herrera
Rhysbombs
Altherr
N. Williams
Franco
Alfaro
Pitcher
Bench: Galvis, Kingery, Joseph, Knapp
Possible Trade bait: Galvis, Rupp (for a bag of baseballs)
If that is the case I am loving it.
Peter McCanned?Goodbye Pete. Some day we will learn how to spell your name.
He drafted Keuchel in the 7th round and signed Altuve as an international FA. Springer was a high first rounder so I'm not giving Wade much credit for that one. Everybody else came in under the Luhnow administration.Did we give Ed Wade too little credit? He built the foundation of the 2008 Phillies and his finger prints are all over this Astros team. Guess he's not so bad at building up.
Thanks for clearing that up.He drafted Keuchel in the 7th round and signed Altuve as an international FA. Springer was a high first rounder so I'm not giving Wade much credit for that one. Everybody else came in under the Luhnow administration.
Wade was hired into a tough position with an aging MLB roster and a poor farm system but there's no getting around the club fell apart under his watch losing 100 games the year he was fired and for the two years that followed.
The only connection I can see is firing Ed Wade has been a milestone in building two WS teams.
Always willing to drop in and talk #### about Ed Wade or Ruben Amaro Jr.Thanks for clearing that up.
Klentak is from the Hinkie school when it comes to hiring a manager. So we just don't care about a manager or did I miss who we signed when everyone else was getting theirs?
That could be a good baseball manager. So far I really like what I've read about GaplerKlentak is from the Hinkie school when it comes to hiring a manager.
Give them the check, and I don't think they care much.Limp Ditka said:Rather have Gabe Kaplan.
This team has a near bottomless pit of money about to be available, it wants to make a run at the big name FAs after next year and they're going to use Gabe Kapler as a bargaining chip?
To DH or play the national anthem on guitar?Didn’t read the follow up story but read an alert that flashed across my phone that said Phillies are interest in Carlos Santana.

They're coming off a 96 loss season but went undefeated in October and November. This is a team trending upwards (rapidly). Can't wait to see all the "diehard" fans trample over each other to get back on that wagon in 2-3 years.

Signing a 1B like Santana (or any offensive player, really) makes no sense for the Phils right now. I could see them being interested in a 2nd tier SP (Lynn, Cobb, Chatwood) if the price is right, and I sure as hell hope they at least throw their hat in the ring for Otani. Other than that, I dont expect (or even want them to be involved in) much this offseason.Matt Gelb @MattGelb
The Phillies are everyone else’s leverage this winter. “I understand why that narrative exists.”
And they sign him for 3/60.The Phillies name will likely be tied to nearly every FA out there this winter because of the money they have available.

Guess Hoskins going to outfield? Williams/Herrera/Altherr trade piece/bench depth. And they sign him for 3/60.![]()

The hell is going on?
None of those three are really bench worthy, unless they think Herrera is just too dumb to be an everyday player. I guess one of them goes and Joseph was never in their plans.Guess Hoskins going to outfield? Williams/Herrera/Altherr trade piece/bench depth.
Odd signing.
The Galvis trade sounds like it was good.
They also could use one of the three as a part of a trade for another pitcher. All twitter speculation though.None of those three are really bench worthy, unless they think Herrera is just too dumb to be an everyday player. I guess one of them goes and Joseph was never in their plans.![]()
Hope that kid stays healthy. He'll be fun to watch hurling heaters in the bigs.

This is a pace of play nightmarePhillies plan on making mid-inning outfielder position switches if the situation/batter dictates it. I already think that Kapler isn’t going to work, this sounds like a disaster in the making.

Yeah, the thought of Rhys Hoskins running from LF to RF between every batter has to have them cringing. I suspect MLB will eventually counter with some new rule. This is a pace of play nightmare
Going to be interesting for sure. Gabe also decided he wants the quantitative analyst of the baseball research and development department to sit in the dugout with the players during the game. Guess which one he is.I already think that Kapler isn’t going to work

OMG. It might be over even sooner than I expected. Are these dudes going to be hanging out all year long??? Think of all the exciting triples and inside the park Home runs happening because Hoskins is too tired to track down a fly ball after running from left to right.Epic Problem said:This is a pace of play nightmare
This has 1000-times-worse than Chip Kelly potential. interesting structure:Jake Arrieta signs a 3 year deal.![]()
The Philadelphia Phillies and free-agent right-hander Jake Arrieta have agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract, according to multiple reports.
Arrieta can opt out of the deal after two seasons, but the Phillies can void that opt-out clause if they first trigger a two-year extension to make the pact a five-year deal, according to FanRag Sports.
That two-year extension would start at $20 million per season but could be worth up to $30 million based on the number of starts Arrieta makes in the first two seasons of the deal and Cy Young Award finishes in those seasons, FanRag Sports reported.
