Destiny Unbound and Curtis Loew are pretty huge on the bustout scale. DU hadn't been played for over a decade when it appeared in Nassau in 2003, and it didn't appear again during Phish 2.0. Trey once said that if people chant the lyrics, he would play the song, so we played along a few times, and he blew us off - including at Hampton 97 when he joked that we were calling for a human sacrifice because the chanting was so muddled. It's country/rock groove, a fun Mike-sung song, with a few key lines:
"I've been havin' this everlasting itch"
The Chorus: "We gotta get on the road, destiny unbound"
and the resolution: "There isn't even any road, our Destiny was bound"
If you've done extended stretches on tour, you can see how this could take on a special meaning.

or just Fishman songs in general. I dont think there was a proper Fishman song with the HYHU intro and outro during the entire Phish 2.0 run - just the "fooled around and fell in love" during the Star Lake Harpua with the HYHU outro - a Fishman themed Harpua where we learned that Jimmy really was Fishman - he also talked about how the arrival of his daughter had changed him and other good stuff.Bike is definitely tops or close to tops on the Fishman song list... how about a bust out of Great Gig in the Sky! Also, we need some new Fishman nicknames.

To each his own but I'm not getting this Destiny Unbound love. If it were a new tune, I'm not sure anyone would be that excited about it. I guess the rarity of it is novel but if you break down the song itself, there's not a lot to it.

I don't know....but this is way better than that crazy dude that was following PJ last tour that was putting up 60 sec teases every song or two.Trey just shredded that Kill Devil song.

Can't wait to hear this. That live feed I posted was great, I just didn't find it until after W'paug. They crushed that Devil tune. Hood was spacey, I liked it. Lovin Cup was solid and me loves my Suzy! I hope that guy goes to more shows. He didn't say for sure afterwards (he kept rolling into the parking lot), but he alluded (eluded, aluded? whatever) to it once.

Technology is the bomb. Phish nows has to do a preemptive strike and either do some sort of high quality webcast or ppv and charge for it.

Just wanted to say I thoroughly enjoyed my first Phish show Tuesday night. As a casual fan I didn't necessarily know the names of all the songs or know how rare they were, but it was an excellent show.

Yes, the same thing was being brought up last night during the show on a phish board. There were approx 8k people between those two links last night at some points and that's just a couple of crazy dudes with iPhones + people spreading the word (in a few days time).
Thursday night JB was excellente.
Trey is still a little tentative - he's not attacking his solos and some the changes/transitions aren't all the clean, but he's got a glow about him, and he was clearly excited for the show - for the first few songs he was bouncing up and down right before the song would start. His tone is a lot like the 99 tone, bending lots of notes in his solos. He is still not bad to his jedi-like nimble phrasing and trance-like tension/release, but there are moments that you can feel it, and he is just glowing with sobriety right now. JB is a nice venue, my first time there. The setting is fantastic with the ocean in the background, and with the nice slope sightlines and sound, its the rare outdoor venue that is all good seats.
Grind was a fun obscure opener - third time played, first two were at 12/30/98 MSG (epic show) and 3/6/09 Hampton (epic show)
Divided Sky in the rain! AHHHHH Divided Sky the wind blows high! NAILED
Ocelot was a fun, upbeat tune with a decent Trey led jam, should be fun they really own it
Squirming Coil was also nailed - the beach theme starts
PYITE!! ooooh yeah. a few sloppy moments in the landlady section, but man this song turns the energy up
Dirt a sweet little ditty about escape - I woke up with it in my head this morning.
NICE a light happy song, bring energy back up from Dirt for...
Ghost - they started the cow phunk, but it wasn't really catching, so Trey went to a circa-98 soaring transcendent jam, and it was magnificent. He settled down into a dirty rock sound for a few bars after the peak and eventually a spacey loop that almost sounded like it was going to go into 2001, but instead the guided it back to the home Ghost groove
Antelope - everyone could feel it coming. no nonsense, knife to the throat Antelope, always a perfect set ender
Water in The sky - another rain song, played really slow country style
BOAFeather - not my favorite, but really tight and fiery
Drowned - YESSSSS another ocean theme song, we were thinking maybe 2nd set opener tomorrow, but nooo. Oh wow they really ripped this one. The jam was hot and intense and glorious and it turned on a dime into
Meatstick - grin from ear to ear. always fun to hear this, love the japanese lyrics
Time Turns Elastic - really tight, precise suite of composed sections, very intricate - the lyrics are earnest, the tone is earnest, more Round Room/Farmhouse era than older Phish
Waste - a theme for all of us. the energy was real low key at this point, so...
YEM - the band felt real comfortable in this one (just like Divided Sky), and the Trey led jam scorched the place, how can you not love this song?
Rock N Roll - a little NY love - all of our lives have been saved by Rock n Roll in some way, right? send us into the night on a high note.
This was my first show back in 5 years after 120 beginning on 4/9/94 - needless to say I was loving it. You need to hear this Ghost and Drowned>Meatstick, those were the unique moments, and Divided Sky, Antelope, YEM all roared like the grand songs that they are.

Phish was a bit louder than your average show and the sound was better than your average show - not sure how much that has to do with the band's sound stuff Vs the Venue - But, I've been to shows in the top deck where the sound was completely washed out to the point where I said I'd never sit there again.. That top section was added on a few years back...Last night I was in section 8L for a while and then in the back of the Orch E.... I've always found JB to be even louder down below, those front speakers are monsters - I sat in row 1 for Neil Young and it way over the top loud...

Last night's show looked sick. Sounds like they are getting tighter and tighter. By late summer, they should be crushing it. Thanks for getting sober Trey.
Miserable weather - the worst I've been in probably for any show - but they delivered.
The band was on an entirely different level than they've been since they returned. Dwd>twist>oye comp va> twist > piper was a rocketship and 2001>slave was glorious. First set was dark and brooding .

I love the dark and brooding Phish. Caught a couple of shows back in the day when there were in that mood. Bummer about the weather, my buddy called me last night saying they were getting the butts kicked by the rain, but still having fun!!Alpine exactly two weeks and counting!!!!!!

Thursday turned out not so bad at all... Didn't have a ticket for last night but, Once the baby and wife were asleep I was tempted to head down there and catch the 2nd set and finale but, kept looking outside and decided against it.... :(I feel like the circus left town.... Meh. There I said it.
We've come to expect great things at Great Woods, and while the show was played very very well, and the Fluffhead was triumphant, the show was very uninspiring. The Faulty Plan and Seven Below set openers and Caspian Bug set closers were good indications of the kind of show it was in general - compare that to set openers like Wilson and Down with Disease and set closers like Antelope and Slave at Jones Beach. Lots of song choices that are good songs as downshifts or continuations of an energy building section of the show played as upshifts and climaxes instead. There was never a three or four song combo that got everyone frothing at the mouth. Golgi was a highlight in an early slot that really showcased it. The jams were purposeful and contained within the structure of the tunes - gbott, taste, 7 below, jibboo, hood, possum - all were cooked well, and according to the recipe. Not a bad show, but a show that never really captured the imagination or pushed the limits. The fact that they are in focus and nailing everything is a good sign for the summer tour in general, but with the exception of Fluffhead, if you missed out on Great Woods 09, you didn't miss anything groundbreaking.

Agreed. The sets last night were all over the place. I never got comfortable at this show. Thought they had something going middle of the first set but it was crawling at the end, I am not a Prince Caspian fan. Set 2 was just Boring, very disappointing.
