Very bummed about dusty. I wish I saw more of his run, I came to him In 1986 kind of laughing thinking he was the face of the nwa after being a hogan-WWF guy.

Took him about two weeks to win me over. Total original in every way.

There's a video I love, a bootlegs behind the scenes from some guys camcorder on the 87 or 88 bash tour. Lots of guys doing coke. But there was dusty. Happy. One of the boys, in the middle of booking sheets planning the territory.

Just in his glory.

Sad day indeed.

I remember first learning about Dusty through PWI and other magazines. I seen and heard Flair because he had come into WCCW to battle the Von Erichs, but I had only read about Dusty. The magazines couldn't do him justice. The first time I saw him on TV, thanks to TBS, I realized that as much as I loved World Class, there was no one on the mic like Dusty and Flair. Simply amazing.

Rhodes was Daniel Bryan before Bryan. The underdog whose chase for gold didn't take weeks but years. Rhodes was the Rock before Rock. Electrifying on the mic and a Bionic Elbow that was deadlier than the People's Elbow. The true People's Champion. The man that Vince hated so much that he put him in yellow polka dots, and even Rhodes made that work.

RIP Dream. Dining with Kings and Queens tonight.

Some of my earliest wrestling memories are from Dusty Rhodes interviews. He was one of the best on the mic. But most of the matches I saw of him were beyond his pinnacle, so I found him boring in the ring. I got to appreciate his in-ring work more through the years when I got to see videos of his older matches.

I don't have a lot of memories of Dusty Rhodes in the NWA. I tried to be a fan of the NWA during his heyday, but I got tired of the bad guys always going over so I pretty much gave up after a couple years. I watched once in a while, but I was more a WWF guy where I could see my favorites win once in a while.

Obviously they gave him a terrible gimmick in the WWF, but he had a ton of charisma and was certainly unique. He kept me watching a lot longer than I would have otherwise.

I was partial to Ric Flair during the Flair/Dusty heyday, but Dusty was always one of the best characters going. Outstanding on the mic and all-around great storyteller in and out of the ring. Sported the crimson mask with the best of them, and it always stood out versus his "blonde" hair. One of the truly all-time greats of the game.

RIP Duth-tay

That's why I loved the NWA and despised Hogan. Four Horsemen baby!

i just spent 2.5 hours checking out Mean Street Posse and Spirit Squad videos on youtube :bag: . one of these stables has to come back

Just got home from NXT in Columbus and man, I have never had a better live wrestling experience than I had at NXT. Intimate atmosphere, wrestlers were giving 110%, fans were into EVERYTHING, Owens vs Balor vs Joe for the main event was out-freaking-standing...

Just great. If they tour Ohio again or somewhere else within reasonable driving distance to Fort Wayne, I may follow them for the whole circuit.

NXT live is pure fun. Plain and simple. Amazing to say that about a WWE product...especially after attending FastLane in Memphis earlier this year, where the fans were comatose and the in-ring product mostly sucked (except Rusev/Cena and Reigns/Bryan).

When you compare NXT last night and Memphis in February, that is just one example of why smaller, intimate venues are ideal for wrestling (that and a hot product). Wrestlers connected to everyone last night. Owens even got in the faces of two hecklers right in front of me!

Some how, some way. they need to work a Dusty Finish into his funeral.
As entertaining as Rhodes was on the mic, the Dusty finishes are a terrible legacy; those always sucked. Terrible booker, he was. Still a legend as a wrestler, for sure though.

Dusty finishes were/are/can be great. But you can't overuse them which I'll admit maybe he did by the end. But make no mistake, dusty is a great booker. Every time he had it, angles were at a promotions peak.

Creatively, 85-88 Jim Crockett promotions was the best booking we've seen on a national level.

The attitude era was comprable but they had the advantage of a wink and a nod to the business being a work.

Presented as straight, they put forth a very credible product and had hot crowds across the south.

Take this an example. This is a mid card angle. Maybe you need to know the players for contender if you don't. Express and cornette are hot heels garvin and windham are faces

Ronnie garvin with windham were faces and jimmy garvin was an upper mid card heel

When is the last time the wwe did anything this compelling

My buddy who lives down in Orlando said the same thing, he's been to a bunch of them. They came to Albany a few weeks ago but unfortunately I couldn't go

You can go see any local show at a bingo hall, and it'll be a great time. Wrestling is a live show that's on TV. Removing the cameras gets the product back to what it is meant to be. I'll always choose to attend a WWE house show over a RAW.

Some of my favorite memories were attending Mid-American Wrestling shows at the local Knights of Colombus bingo halls. It was every Friday night for $10 and we had a group of 8 that were the "front row guys". I was spit on, pushed, berated what have you. It was early 2000s I beileve...it was very blurry as the beer was cheap. The main highlight of that time was watching an up and coming talent who became "The Best in the World"....Cm Punk. He got in my face and called me a drunk #######. lol. GREAT times.ETA: Mr Kennedy came from this area as well.

Thanks for the reminder about the PPV.

I'd rather go see a RAW/normal PPV/house show over another Mania. Outside of the Royal Rumble (personal favorite), I've always enjoyed house shows the best as well. Unless you're paying $250+/ticket (which I'm not going to) for Mania, the viewing in my experience isn't good in stadium setting.

If you see Shane O'Mac and a grizzly in a fight...you'd better help the grizzly.

Sounds like Minneapolis will host Mania after Dallas. I'm planning on at least $500 per seat...I've been a wrestling fan for 30+ years - gotta go all in when the biggest show comes to town. Only question is if I take my kids at that price.

FWIW, my buddy got some free floor tickets through work for WM when it was here in NOLA. on the floor, the seats aren't tiered, rather just folding chars on the floor...said he would have been pissed big time if he paid that money.

I spent part of the late 90's going to House of Pain/NWL shows in Hagerstown, MD. Shows were on Tuesday nights at no charge. This was their training school and where the trainees got a chance to work on their gimmick and mat work.Me and a couple other pals were regulars and got to know some of the more veteran talent. Most were regular Joes with jobs who did this for fun. I was even in a match once as a manager; the opposing manager was a veteran in the WXW area and gave me a primer on working the match. His first words were, "Don't worry, just let me be the #### here." :lmao: At the end of the match, I had him by a leather jacket with my right atm cocked like I was going to throw a punch. My wife said I got a huge pop out of it; I was so focused I didn't hear anything.

Good times.

Owens is gold on the mic. Outside Cena & Punk, I can't think of any wrestler that could hold a candle to him there in the past decade.

Even though they shouldn't have Cena win, I don't see him having much trouble at all post-Cena feud.

I like the Wyatt swerve but am not looking forward to him putting over Reigns now. He's better than Reigns in every way imaginable.

Ryback/Show ends in a finish that made me think I was watching Raw. But I'd like to thank Miz for ending that boring match.

Cena/Owens is awesome. Some of the best 1-on-1 matches I've seen in awhile.

The one thing I absolutely hate in these matches are the kicking out of ''finishers''. Always have always will hate that.
