Bayley is a good worker but her & Nia Jax just looked completely unrealistic.

Not a fan whatsoever of matches like that (Mysterio/Big Show, etc...)

HHH obviously puts it out there NXT is his (and Vince has no input on it). Vince has final say on anything/everything on the main roster & will until the day he dies.

They've done a good job of putting these infrequent NXT 'PPV' events in front of red hot crowds amd making these guys seem bigger than they really are.

They did a nice job with it though in terms of storytelling. They correctly showed Bayley as overmatched and needing to get by on her unmatched determination and support from the crowd. .

The NXT "PPVs" feel bigger because they're only once a quarter instead of once a month. And only an hour of weekly shows instead of 5+. Only a select few get to showcase their skills on the (relatively) big stage. So each match is huge and each performer is going all out to impress. Makes for a great product, if not nearly as much money.
they also have the ability to use jobber matches during their weekly shows so the main players can just get their stuff in. Playing to a niche audience that is extremely loyal lets them keep things simple and under-exposed.
I think that jobber (or at least jobber to the stars) matches are something that a three hour RAW could occasionally stand to use. Would let them build a certain amount of heat for stars and up and comers without sacrificing it from another star or up and comer.

Decent match between Balor and Joe. Wish Balor would have a different finisher. I've always disliked that stomp.

Thrilled they had Corbin going over Crews. Thought for sure they'd do the other way. Corbin's still green as goose #### but with more work could be really good. Dont know how much longer he'll be able to rock that long hair

100% agree. I'd rather have 4-5 jobber squashes every Raw, then the seemingly never ending rematches between people who will be having yet another rematch at the PPV. I mean, Ziggler-Breeze, could have and should have been an awesome midcard feud, but they had like 5 matches in 2 weeks. It makes it difficult to care about anything if you see it that often.

Also, jobber matches don't have to be boring one sided affairs. For instance, why couldn't say, Heath Slater put up a decent 5 minute fight against someone like Dean Ambrose? Not saying he has to win, but at least look like a fellow professional.

Not having jobber matches has probably killed the ability to make money off of a bunch of midcarders, simply because of stupidity. Wade Barrett is a great example of this.

Such a great show all around. It blows my mind that there are people who prefer Raw and main roster PPV's to NXT. Other than maybe the Tag Title match, and MAYBE Ambrose/Owens, there wasn't anything on the main roster show that could have touched NXT London.
I think there's a lot of wrestling fans who know very little about NXT. That's why.
If you're not forking out cash for WWE Network, you're not seeing this. I don't.
Time for the hot "NXT is better than WWE" takes...which seems especially weird this round since London was NXT's weakest takeover event all year.
If something has been true for about 2 years, is it really a hot take?

I don't know why but it bothers me seeing HHH all over social media talking about NXT and taking pictures and selling more NXT events and tweeting after the "beating" he took at TLC and Steph saying he's in the hospital monday night raw.

At the start of the show he said something like "Yeah, I got my ### kicked on Sunday. It wasn't the first time and it certainly won't be the last. Nothing was going to keep me from being here tonight".

But I agree. At least put your arm in a sling or put on a neckbrace or crutches. Something small to help us suspend our disbelief. A lot has been said on social media about the disregard for kayfabe with the current regime. HHH and Steph both say "I play a bad guy on TV" on their twitter bio. I realize everyone understands it's a work these days, but I wish they would play along a little more.

WWE is completely ####ed when Vince dies and if HHH/Steph is put in charge. Keep in mind NXT puts on 4 (?) 'big shows' a year......other than that they do shows in front of 300 non-paying fans every week. Of course it's gonna seem fresh compared to the main roster......that shoves 5 (?) hours/week + a monthly PPV down people's throats.

HHH still has a huge issue of wanting to put himself over. See Punk. See Lesnar. See Sting. Would anyone be surprised if he put himself over on Reigns? HHH winning anything at this point (or 3-4 years ago in Punk's case) does absolutely nothing for anyone. Let's be honest here, the same can be said of Taker.

Hasn't Taker more or less transcended traditional "rankings" and reached a point where noone should lose any heat over losing to him? Since he goes so infreqently, I more or less view him as an exhibition match....it means nothing....but its entertaining.

I don't look at it any 'no one should lose heat' but 'what they would gain'. What good for the long term is Wyatt Family (in their primes) losing to 50 year old Taker and a 48 year old Kane that won't be on the next show(s)? Just terrible.

Wyatt's have now moved into a midcard faction IMO as a result. Instead of moving into a top of the card faction where they should be IMO.

I'm not nearly into it as much as some of you, but IMO HHH probably knows what the issue is and is handcuffed by Vince. I'd bet that Vince croaking would be a burden lifted and he can start doing strategic things that he wants too

On the surface, there's a timelessness about Undertaker in most fans' mind, IMO. It's only when you step back and say, "Yeah, he's 50" that it really hits you. As such, losing to a company icon like him doesn't necessarily diminish their star power. If HHH and Heartbreak Kid and Punk all lose to him, is it (in the realm of kayfabe) all that unusual that the Wyatts lose?

Decent match between Balor and Joe. Wish Balor would have a different finisher. I've always disliked that stomp.
If I were them I'd be terrified that he would break his leg or blow out a knee doing it
I hate the stomp. The setup seems more drawn out then something like the Red Arrow and it just doesn't look devastating, Something you would use mid-match as opposed to a finisher. When he moves up to the main roster, would love to see Finn use his DDT and armbar finishers from New Japan. Play up his legacy.

Really doesn't look devastating? Driving your feet into the guys chest from the top rope seems pretty brutal to me.

Yeah, I think he's still seen as almost supernatural. His aging almost enhances his undead gimmick.

Also, wasn't flabby old Flair still going over on guys well into his 50s? I missed a lot of that era, but I do remember him being made to look like a credible opponent for Shawn Michaels in his retirement match.

I didn't mind the Bros of Destruction going over because it was the Undertaker's 25th anniversary celebration, and Bray didn't eat the pinfall (if I'm remembering correctly). I don't think any of the other 3 are going to be more than supporting characters.

That's been going on in wrestling forever. Verne Gagne was in his mid-50s when he went over Bockwinkle (who would be the next champion) in his retirement match.

Yep. Wrestling has always asked us to mostly ignore a performer's age. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

The Kingdom dropped the ROH tag straps to War Machine Friday night. Per PWTorch, Bennett and Maria's contracts are up. They most likely are done there. Matt Taven's contract runs thru March 2016.

Whoever signs Mike and Maria has to do a package deal as they're married. Do they wait for Taven and take the Kingdom somewhere else or go their own way?

PWInsider says they are TNA-bound come January. Its stupid...but no one ever accused Maria of being smart.

Hopefully Taven sticks around as his style is really suited well for Japan.

So with the year ending, I thought I'd see what everybody thought were the year's best matches. My top-10:

10. Cena-Cesaro, US open challenge. If Cena was ever going to drop the title on Raw, this should have been it. Cesaro was on fire this entire match, and unlike many of the other open challenge matches, it actually felt like Cena could lose. This was the open challenge at its best, and hopefully when he comes back Cesaro will finally get the main event level run, that he has deserved for years.

9. Rollins-Ambrose, Money in the Bank, ladder match. I thought this was the best 1-1 ladder match in years. The story of Ambrose constantly getting the upper hand only for Rollins to take out Ambrose's knee again and again, making it almost impossible for Ambrose to climb was great, and a real throwback to when ladder matches were more psychological and less spot heavy. Not that there weren't spots, the ending was a great spot, where they both grabbed the title at the same time and fell off the ladder, but Ambrose lost control of it when he hit the ground. Really liked that it seemed like a truly 50-50 outcome.

8. Reigns-Bryan, fastlane. This was really the first singles match where Roman Reigns looked like he belonged. I like this match a lot more revisiting it now, then I did in February. Bryan did a great job here, making Reigns continue the fight and stay focused. One of my biggest problems with Reigns, is that he has a tendency to just kind of wander around until its time to win, like his character has no gameplan, but just decides when it is time to end the match. This is the best match he's had as far as staying on his opponent the entire time, and its mostly because Bryan never lets up, he's constantly just right there.

7. Zayn-Owens #1. This match may not have been a technical classic, but the story and emotion were to notch. This is the biggest feud WWE can really produce because these two have a rivalry that nobody can match. This really put Owens on the map for people who weren't really buying a guy who looks like he does. The promos to build it up were great, and the match really was something nobody could have expected. It was basically Cena-Lesnar from Summerslam, only Zayn, while a far better in-ring storyteller, isn't as invincible as Cena, and Owens, while nowhere near the physical threat Lesnar is, brings so much more anger and meaning to his matches. The match being stopped by the ref basically felt like pity by the end. You know a match has told a good story, when it ends by ref stoppage, and you don't even feel remotely ripped off by it.

6. Sasha-Becky NXT Unstoppable. This was the best technical match of the year, so much great stuff. 2 submission wrestlers doing everything they can to make the other tapout. Sasha working Becky's arm for 15 minutes, and it actually playing a huge role in the finish. The armbreaker off the top rope, and roll thru into the a banks statement with the injured arm hooked too, was excellent. Also, the much maligned NXT crowd, was at their best here, singing Becky's theme as a sign of respect after her loss.

5. Cena-Owens Elimination Chamber. This was such an upset, and it told an excellent story, one which unfortunately the writer/bookers didn't have the guts/brains to follow through on. Cena had been looking for someone to dethrone him for the US title, and Owens comes along and says he doesn't care about the title at all, that his(the NXT title) is more important, but he'll fight Cena just to show he can, and then he actually bests him. I probably would have put it higher, but I can't forget the awfulness of the feud, where Cena immediately went back to being awful for 2 months, being a whiny crybaby that somebody actually beat him, and did the Cena thing where he'll lose once and then get infinite wins so it looks like a fluke.

4. Lesnar-Reigns-Rollins, Wrestlemania. This match has also gotten better in retrospect, especially since it is basically the swan song of the curbstomp, which was the best finisher in wrestling in my opinion. It was the #1 move where even non wrestling fans could just look and say, "yeah, its over now" Like Daniel Bryan, Lesnar stayed on Reigns so much, that he couldn't get lost during the match, and these guys basically just actually beat each other up. I liked Reigns here because he wasn't just deciding to win, he was barely surviving. This was about a 90-10 ratio of who dominated this match. I liked Brock staggering around after the superman punches, but refusing to go down, and Reigns looking like he was shocked he could even stun Lesnar. I also loved that this was the perfect time to cash in for Rollins, his sprint down the crazy long entrance way, to take advantage of 2 downed opponents was awesome, as was his immediately being caught by a not so downed Lesnar. Rollins pinning Reigns after Reigns speared Brock was an excellent ending.

3. Sasha-Bayley, Takeover Respect, 30 minute match. I wrote about that match at length, but I'll just sum it up by saying, this was everything a sequel should be. Playing off the last match, but smartly letting both people learn from their prior mistakes, to ultimately have an entirely different match.

2. Lesnar-Cena-Rollins, Royal Rumble. Really stood out on an otherwise awful PPV. My favorite thing about this match, besides Rollins busting out a Phoenix splash, was how Rollins and Lesnar interacted. Lesnar kinda owned Cena, and whenever he got in any trouble, would just german suplex Cena away, but when he tried that to Rollins, Rollins landed on his feet. Rollins moved quicker, and Brock wasn't able to completely get his hands on him, without Rollins countering with his speed or some high flying move, or a kick, and by the time Brock did, Cena had recovered. The match was full of little parts like that, but that was my favorite. I'm really disappointed, that we never got a Rollins-Lesnar match. A real one I mean, not just something to kill time until the Undertaker showed up. I think Rollins-Lesnar could have been 10X the feud Lesnar-Taker was. In fact, if they could have strung out that sequence in the Rumble, to a full match, I think that likely would have been up here for the match of the year.

1. Sasha-Bayley Takeover Brooklyn. Sometimes wrestling is the greatest thing in the world, this was one of those times. I've never been as emotionally involved in a wrestling match ever. This was the best woman's match in WWE history. This is arguably the best match in WWE this decade, everything about it was perfect. I've already talked about this match a ton, so I'll just say, that between Sasha stomping on Bayley's hands when she tried to reach for the ropes while in the Banks Statement, to that amazing reverse frankensteiner off the top rope, this match had it all, both in the ring, and in storytelling. To stress how good the storytelling was, Sasha Banks is my favorite wrestler, there is nobody I enjoy watching more, and even I was rooting for Bayley.

Hard to argue that list Travdogg. I don't have a very good memory, but I certainly agree with your top 4. Loved all the Owens/Cena stuff. I enjoyed most of the Lesnar/Undertaker stuff, too. Thought their HIAC match told a good story.

Nice list, Travdogg. Mine is very similar.

10. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens 7/19 - Battleground. 4.25 stars. The third of their matches, which while excellent was a notch below their first two.

9. Seth Rollins vs. Dean Ambrose Ladder match for WWE Championship 6/14 - Money in the Bank. 4.25 stars.

8. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens 6/14 - Money in the Bank. 4.5 stars. The second of their matches. Nearly on par with their first match, but didn't have the same impact.

7. John Cena vs. Kevin Owens 5/31 - Elimination Chamber. 4.5 stars. Trav summed this up very well above.

6. Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns (vs. Seth Rollins) for WWE Championship 3/29 - Wrestlemania 31. 4.5 stars. An awesome match after WWE booked themselves into a corner with Reigns, and Rollins with the briefcase.

5. Charlotte vs. Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch vs. Bayley for NXT Women's Championship 2/11 - NXT Takeover: Rival. 4.5 stars. Wow, at the time I thought this would be the best Women's match of the year. Not only did we get two matches clearly above this imo, the Sasha/Becky Lynch match from 5/20 was nearly on par as well.

4. Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena vs. Seth Rollins for WWE Championship 1/25 - Royal Rumble. 4.5 stars. I thought this was Seth Rollins' breakout performance, showing that he truly belonged in the main event. Great, great match that I am looking forward to rewatching.

3. Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker HIAC 10/25 - Hell in a Cell. 4.75 stars. My notes: Super brutal and bloody match. Utmost respect. Hell in a Cell indeed.

2. Bayley vs. Sasha Banks Ironman Match for NXT Women's Championship 10/7 - NXT Takeover: Respect. 4.75 stars. Really loved this match. Great story telling, great sequel. Given a main event spot, the ladies delivered a classic.

1. Sasha Banks vs. Bayley 8/22 - NXT Takeover: Brooklyn. 5 stars. What else can be said about this match? This was an easy pick for me for match of the year. The emotional impact for me was off the charts. First time that I've literally sobbed during a wrestling match.

honorable mention: Rollins/Cena title vs title (Summerslam); Sheamus/Reigns (TLC); Balor/Neville (Takeover: Rival) Reigns/Bryan (Fastlane); Zayn/Owens (Takeover: Rival); Banks/Lynch (Takeover: Unstoppable); Amore&Cassady/Dash&Dawson (Takeover: London)

What I found interesting is that her twitter account retweeted a bunch of WWE stuff. Seemed curious given the timing.

Plus, why would you sign with that dumpster fire TNA? You could do pretty well for yourself working NJPW and the indies like AJ Styles does.

Good list. I can only remember the Top 5 due to bad memory. I think I'd put them in that same order too. Agree Sasha & Bayley was the best women's match in WWE history.

They'd have to be idiots to join TNA.

:lmao: at TNA thinking their results on Snap Crackle and PopTV will be any different than Destination America. Same management, same creative. It will not work. Polishing a turd.

Lucha has everything right. They just aren't available enough and IMO it's just an awful time to start from scratch with wrestling in general (even if they do a wonderful job trying to make it a TV show as opposed to wrestling). Hope they make it. They've certainly got a better shot IMO than TNA/Global Force/etc...

Wrestler of the Year - Seth Rollins

Match of the Year - Brock vs Rollins vs Cena 2015 Royal Rumble

Tag Team of the Year - New Day (would like to see a compelling argument for anyone else)

Manager of the Year - Paul Heyman (see above)

Feud of the Year - Alberto El Patron vs Johnny Mundo

Great lists guys. My personal top 5

1 Sasha vs Bayley - Takeover: Brooklyn. Perfect wrestling match in every way.

2 Lesnar vs Reigns - Wrestlemania. Amazing story, amazing comeback by Reigns. He took such a brutal beating and when he finally bloodied the beast and realized he had an opening it had me on the edge of my seat. Great ending with Rollins although I was so invested in Reigns story I wanted a clean finish whether it be win or loss.

3 Ambrose vs Rollins - MITB. Best ladder match I've seen in a long time. Just brutal.

4 Owens vs Cena - Elimination Chamber. Never really saw the real Owens until this match and was just blown away. What a talent. Great story.

5 Balor vs Neville - Takeover: Rivals. Just a fun back and forth. Nonstop action.

Next 3 which were hard to leave out would be the RR three way, the Cesaro-Cena match from Raw and the first tag title match between New Day and Kidd/Cesaro.

Tag Team of the Year - New Day (would like to see a compelling argument for anyone else)
There isn't one.

:lmao: Just read Usos won. How many ####### months was the one Uso out? (Who knows/cares which one it was) :lmao:
Yeah, that was bad. The fans tend to vote for the babyfaces (I might be the only one who believes the voting is legit).

Owens sleeping  during Kalisto's acceptance speech.

:lmao:
He's great on twitter too. Stays in character. At least I hope that's his character. :oldunsure:

Seth Rollins won as a heel, though, so I guess it's not impossible.

Super excited for the local independent show at the end of January. Not because of the main event of Ray Rowe and Charlie Hass vs. Jax Dane and Rodney Mack, which will be pretty awesome. I'm super excited to see the Triple Threat Match of Miss Disslexia vs. Jessica James vs. the one and only Leva Bates. Blue Pants will be in the building!!!!!

Yeah, I mean how many cable or satellite providers even carry PopTV? (Holy crap; they're on DirecTV! ) If you go to their PopTV page, most of the wrestlers pictured are women. :lmao:

Oh, this little chestnut came to me on twitter. If you're not from the Pittsburgh area, you may not know who Mark Madden is. The self-styled "Super Genius" has a penchant for being your stock in trade sports shock/troll host. In fact, while he's got a daily radio show that absolutely fine for terrestrial radio, the TV version that they show at 10 PM is rated TV-MA by DirecTV. :lmao: Pretty much anybody who's worked with him in wrestling hates his guts.

Anyhow, you may remember him as a heel announcer in WCW. This video shows him in a "Camloops Street Fight" against Mean Gene Okerlund. Yes, it's as bad as you might imagine.

I very well could be wrong, but I think I heard they're carried in a lot more US households than Destination America. It really don't matter though. The creative and management is the same. They're literally at the same spot they were a year ago. 3 TV channels in little over a year isn't good.

Rhonda in his corner vs hhh?

Guess they are going away from reigns hhh maybe?

Cena taker

Rock hhh

Reigns vs ???

Lesnar vs Goldberg/Ambrose?

WWE runs the "get out of my ring and somebody gets arrested" for the 8,473rd time on RAW. Plus, they pretty much ignore Reigns in the rest of the segment so Vince can get screen time. Sheesh.

And then they job out Owens in a 10-second match. I tapped out.

Good thing LU comes back on 1/27 so I can watch some real wrestling.

Becky vs. Sasha worth tuning in for.

I realize the reasons why they promote a week ahead of time, but would it kill Vince to make Cena's return a surprise? Let him sit out until the Royal Rumble? Have him run in on a ADR vs. Kevin Owens main event instead?

Stop making sense.

And then they job out Owens in a 10-second match. I tapped out.

Owens needs heat. Yeah, he got pinned in a fluke. The story is the escalation of the beat down over two segments. Owens is supposed to be dangerous...he should feel more dangerous after tonight.
