For all of his faults, you can tell Punk loves the idea of pro wrestling and I guarantee he wants the young guys to be trained to do it the right way in the ring (storytelling, ring psychology, etc.).
Meltzer has no credibility left, but even he knows that AEW is a sinking ship. Tony has enough money to keep it from sinking to the very bottom any time soon, but will anyone be surprised if AEW is no long around in 5-10 years?
I doubt it is (re: AEW in 5-10 years). Tiny Con will have a meltdown before then. (And not just a Twitter one). Its already rapidly approaching the level of current TNA wrestling (which is a better product and probably the better investment for upside by a network as it'll cost nothing)

Hard to see him handing reigns over to anyone as he hasn't done so for the non-existent creative. It's Indy wrestling with a TV deal. Why no one watches and why their attendance is rapidly dwindling. Very rapidly
Tony's booking is basically "spin the wheel this week and see what it lands on." Remember the Buckaroos attacking him and beating him up? Outside of him wearing a neck brace the next day to the NFL draft yet still magically moving his head all around as if nothing was wrong  , where was the follow-up with that?

Even with Bryan Danielson, one of the best ever, supposedly on the verge of retiring to a large degree, almost no one is watching or going to most of their events. It doesn't bode well.
Tony has to be the worst booker ever. Nonsense matches, bad feuds, too much nonsense hardcore...

CM Punk apparently asked for time off to not fly to the Saudi show as he didn’t wanted to get blasted online for being a hypocrite. News flash you are a hypocrite because you still signed with the company who pays them and probably part of your paycheck comes from there.

Disagree I don’t think they are that bad. Meanwhile there’s WWE fans routinely questioning Hunters bookings. Some of his bookings are just lazy and drawn out. Same matches every week.

I can barely watch WWE more so as I feel like it’s more geared toward kids and not believeable and and AEw does put some fun new matches on weekly. Like the 4 way lucha match or whatever I was t too excited for but man it was great. AEw feels more like a sports and WWE is just way overproduced.

Also WWE has had declining rating for yrs. Since the invasion angle in 01 raw has lost almost 4.5m viewers in the last 23 yrs. It’s been a slow decline and WWE in general has been losing a good 400k per year on avg. now some are streaming but a large majority just don’t follow wrestling anymore. I have a friend who’s in tv production and laughs when I tell him how wrestling fans fued over ratings. He says most tv networks don’t care about that as much anymore since a lot of people stream and DVR but it’s hard to get those numbers out with the regular tv numbers. Yes people watching still matter but a lot of folks don’t take in who’s streaming or DVR stuff. It still matters in terms of how much advertising $$$ they get. For example fox let go WWE because the amount being paid plus viewership wasn’t justifying ad cost made. To put it into bigger terms the whole ratings FOX first Friday night football game this year which wasn’t a great match up had the highest rating on fox Friday night in half a year.

Wrestling is just a nitch sport though. NxT had their lowest attendent on road event for last nights show. They advertised a much bigger arena and had to go down to almost a bingo hall venue as they could barely sell tickets despite aderti ing Orton in his hometown. They were also trying to get 1m on free cable and couldn’t. So in a way NxT wasn’t really a winner.

AEW Dynamite ratings last week have to be the worst in history. The downfall of the AEW is coming soon? New WCW?
They got at least 3 more years. Unless WBD cancels them. Which if they continue at 300k for their main show could very well happen.

Comparing them to WCW is giving them way too much credit. WCW beat WWE head to head for a year and a half. Even at their worst, they were drawing a lot better than AEW is now.

I compare Tiny Con to Herb Abrams and the UWF. Blowing money up the azz to only perform in completely empty arenas. You can see them trying to hide the completely empty TV venues by darkening the lighting behind the first couple rows

Thank god he got help when he did

Bryan Alvarez provided an extended health update on Killswitch/Luchasaurus during today's WOL:

“I don’t want to say it’s a career-ending issue, but it could be a career-ending issue. He's not back in the gym and he will not be back in the gym for a while and he’s not going to be back wrestling, probably, for a while. Hopefully, he will be back wrestling in a while.

Apparently, there were complications. He ends up getting this flu and bad oxygen uptake as a result of whatever else, turned into pneumonia. And apparently he’s at high risk for a relapse, is what I was told. The big concern is that after all of this, they’ve been running test after test, and apparently there may be permanent damage.

They found calcification in a heart valve and his body is not producing iron and so he’s got a whole bunch of tests that he apparently has to take. It’s bad. It’s bad enough that he’s out of the hospital, apparently, but he still has to do oxygen.”

Fun fact: Even if you don't factor in a potential second US TV deal, AEW next year will be more profitable than the entirety of WCW's 13 years combined, then WWF from 1990-98 combined, and WWE every year from 2011 to 2017.

#TNA is planning on continuing their Hall of Fame this year. The Hardy Boys said they would be honored to be inducted and there are some that hope AJ Styles can be inducted this year.

Adam Copeland is a Canadian native, but currently lives in Asheville, North Carolina. Sadly, the Carolinas have been destroyed due to the devastating Hurricane Helene that hit this past week.

Today, TK held a media call for AEW WrestleDream where he revealed that Adam Copeland was helping FEMA Workers in North Carolina dig out bodies from the Hurricane wreckage.

But Hunter only sees talent? Why we resigning Nia and liv then both horrible on mic and in ring.

Former #WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley Expected To Sign New Long-Term Contract

It’s been reported that WWE recently approached WWE Women’s Champion Nia Jax and current WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan to sign new contracts.

Ripley’s new deal reportedly consists of a considerable financial raise and is expected to be 5 years long.

Jonathan Coachman On Katie Vick Storyline: “That Was One Of The Most Repulsive, Disgusting Storylines Of All Time”

Former #WWE commentator Coachman talks about one o the most infamous storylines ever in professional wrestling.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet, Coachman expressed regret for not standing up to his former boss, Vince McMahon, while discussing creative ideas for Monday Night RAW.

“I’m not proud of the fact that I never told him no this is one of the things that I’ve told you on and off camera. There’s a lot of things I should have said no to.

Coachman said the following, “That was one of the most repulsive, disgusting storylines of all time. During that time, Vince would go down a road and everything he was doing was hitting, whether it was the milk truck, whether it was the cement truck with the Corvette, all of that stuff. So let’s just keep going.”

According to Coachman, nobody in the building knew about the contents of the tape, so when it aired, the reactions were audible in the audience as well as backstage.

“…they shot that off-site so nobody had seen it until it ran on the show. And backstage, you could hear people just groaning because it was so incredibly bad. And if you put a lie detector on Triple H today, he would probably tell you the same thing.”

Garbage can wrestler Moxley with his typical half *** lazy effort

Embarrassing. So glad he's long gone from WWE. Can't talk. His in ring is atrocious. Enjoy performing in front of hundreds the rest of your career 👍
Moxley is a weird one. I feel like the IWC overrates him a bit, almost like he gets extra credit for leaving WWE for the unknown at the time, and I applaud him for doing it since it was obviously better for his mental health given how unhappy he was professed to be at the end of his tenure in WWE, but on the flip side, he had maxed out there. He was clearly not on the level of Reigns or even Rollins (whom I have never liked), so it had to be a gut punch seeing one of his old buddies constantly pushed as THE face of the company and the other to be a pretty consistent top level/main event guy, while he knew he was destined for the mid-card. He is better being a big fish in a little pond; he can be a consistent top guy in the minor leagues (AEW), but never would have been that in WWE. That spot you posted is pretty awful, though.

If penta kept his mouth shut he’d been in WWE already. Supposed friend Konnan also quietly snitched.

WWE's plans for The Lucha Bros SmackDown debut leaked to Tony Khan; why he extended their contracts revealed.

"Tony [Khan] likes Rey Fenix. He’s always liked and respected Rey Fenix. He just felt that if he let this thing slide that other people were going to start taking advantage of him and it was going to lead to a dam breaking. So they’re f’d and Penta has another month I believe and Fenix has 9-10 [more months]. Tony found out what the plan was for them on SmackDown by the way and that also informed this."

Word internally is that Motor City Machine Guns’ travel has been set for the October 25 WWE Smackdown in Brooklyn.

Mad respect for Drew as usual

Backstage and at ringside during the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Hell in a Cell match, there was panic over how severe McIntyre’s wound was. He was bleeding heavily, and it wouldn’t stop.

Initially, they considered having a doctor enter the cage to control the bleeding, but ultimately decided against it since it was a Hell in a Cell match.

They wanted to wipe the blood off him with a towel. McIntyre basically took control and said that if he felt woozy he would give them the word and they would go right to the finish.

While he took a hard shot, he showed no signs of a concussion, they proceeded as planned with no issues and he was very aware of what was going on and in control at all times.

In an update, it has been said that MJF still has filming to do on Happy Gilmore 2, but is expected back in AEW soon.

This is the truth. From reddit:

Unfortunately, AEW lost its biggest heel. It wasn't Omega, it wasn't MJF, it wasn't Jericho (implying that they ever lost him in the first place). It was Vince McMahon. He was the common enemy that AEW fans could always rally against.

AEW had a bad angle? "I'm sure they will somehow find a way to salvage this unlike Vince". Tony Kahn screwed up with something big time? "Well, he's just inexperienced, Vince would have made things 10 times worse". With the regime change, not only is WWE making a better product, but people actually want to enjoy the show now instead of ****ting on the product 24/7.

That was my problem with AEW since day one. What's the point for a "Western mainstream alternative to the WWE" when people don't want an alternative anymore. Even if he didn't get chased out, Vince was way closer to his last day on the job than he was his first.
Yep, and we see it with the lone AEW fan in this thread, who floods it non-stop with crap that makes you think that the AEW is thriving, while WWE is struggling, and loves to go on and on about Vince, as a pathetic attempt to diminish the current WWE product, and also constantly posts supposed news without sources (which he was told not to do, yet he does it anyway, which shows his total disdain for Joe and the other mods here), a lot of which I honestly thinks he makes up. He's like the FFA version of Meltzer.
Yes, and my stances on early AEW are right there with any other fan.

But this isn't 2019-2021 AEW. This is 2024 AEW and it's not good television. Still better than declining WCW, but only on the back of a few very talented workers that continue to make their PPVs prime entertainment.

I'm most sad that they stole Okada from New Japan, which may lead to NJPW squandering 3 of their most promising talents in a long time. Tsuji Yota ought to be taking the belt off Just-Past Prime Okada, not Sad Kneeless Naito.

Agreed. The tribalistic nature of online wrestling fans is so toxic. Go on Twitter and all you saw last week was loyal AEW fans complaining about the blood in the Punk/Drew match. No, no, let's not praise what most have called an instant classic match, but focus on something silly to try and take away from it. Sure, part of it is that their hatred for Punk, as deep down they know that his departure last year was the beginning of the steep decline and he's the easy scapegoat rather than blaming the children in charge there, but part of it is how tribal wrestling fans are in general. I suspect it would have been just as bad in the 80s with the WWF taking command and the NWA trailing far behind, and I cannot imagine the online wars that would have happened during the Monday Night Wars of the 90s between WCW and the WWF. Some wrestling fans are just too concerned with blind loyalty and/or "being right" rather than just enjoying good product wherever it happens.

Moxley was a way better talent that was not really WWE mainstream material and that’s ok. He was just not used to what he was capable of and the PG crap watering him down is no different then the DX segment online they did to promote NxT to CW.

Also, the babyface Bloodline is going to be awesome.
It's kinda hilarious that after years of struggling to get over as a face who was wildly cheered on a consistent basis, it took a massive heel run for Roman Reigns to finally totally get over and now become the massive babyface that the old boss always wanted.
It also took Roman trying to retire because said boss didn’t take the pandemic seriously. So to keep him he gave Roman whatever he wanted and then some. 2nd shield member who was able to take advantage of Bince outside of Mox when he was leaving.

The story was great but way too drawn out and super predictable after awhile.

Fightful reports Jimmy Jacobs has resigned from AEW's writing team.

Fightful says this comes amidst AEW looking for ways to freshen up their creative staff.

Congrats to Takeshita on his first title win in the states. He was super impressive in NJPW G1 to the point I looked forward to everyone of his matches

Takeshita defeats Will Ospreay and Ricochet to win the International Championship! Incredible match. Fletcher turned on Ospreay and hit him with the Screwdriver.

After the match Fletcher hits the Tiger Driver on Ospreay and leaves him laying in the ring.

Jon Moxley is your new AEW world Champion. The American Dragons full time in ring career is over. He will now probably have surgery on his neck within a few weeks.

Never thought after he first retired we’d see the dragon enter the ring ever again. But he did Full time.

No other person to send him out though. Mox and Danielson have been good friends for yrs. I remember after Danielson came back from his concussions a lot of their friends were saying, when Danielson fully retires it has to be Jon. It’s feel wrong any other way. Glad Bryan got to wrestle again. Truly you can tell he loves it. But right now his health and being a husband to Brie and father to his two kids and physically able to do all of that is the most important thing right. We’ll always cherish the memories he gave us through his career.

ROH and Nigel rivalry,

Yes movement and winning the title at Mania

AEW dream matches and winning a title again

And everything in between.

Truly one of the best Technical wrestlers of this era.

Bryan Danielson specifically wanted to lose to Jon Moxley to end his AEW World title run.
