Sorry guys, been on this documentary kick

Here is one on Judge. Not too popular outside of NYHC scene but it is really interesting to see what went on in that band. The link I have here also includes some other docs that I have not seen yet but will def watch some over holiday break @Jaysus might like this one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eHPIBP5a0Y&list=RD5eHPIBP5a0Y#t=605
They had one on Noisey a while back that I posted in here. Mike Judge is an interesting dude. I always hated them for the violence that I think they'll get to in here, but if this is the same one, it is really a good watch. It encapsulates a scene that more than a few people remember.

It's weird. The white power aspect of their audience (that they did NOT want) this spilled over into Boston with the FSU crew and all that, who then became a gang themselves.

Acer, have you read the Grantland piece about the Boston hardcore kids that sold Yankees Suck T-shirts? Fascinating read.  Ignore the "beer-guzzling" part of the subtitle, the people who write the articles often don't get to title them. These kids were straight edge Boston hardcore kids turned bad.

That was one of the most entertaining things (I've seen it before) in years. Can't imagine that doesn't get made into a movie at some point.

I actually remember our brief conversation/interlude. I said it was depressing. But it was indeed entertaining.

I think it should be a movie, or a great documentary. The part where he won't give up the money in the safe and they're dragging him, shot through the face/throat with blood to the hospital is hardcore in every sense of that term, not just musically.

yeah, thanks for posting and Im sorry I missed your post on Judge. I thought I click everything. Missed that one

Yes! Was just thinking about this album the other night.

Remember the Sly cover during the album.

We're the Meatmen, we're the Meatmen, we're the Meatmen, stomp stomp stomp.

Dude, you've made my day.
those two bands had never heard of PC - true nihilistic punk - they ripped the living #### outta everything.

I saw the supersuckers open up for Bad Religion at Roseland in 1995

They supersucked

Samiam killed it that night though

I've seen them twice and they killed it both times.

What I did notice is I think that last night was the 3rd night of 3 in Denver. Anytime I've seen them do 3 nights here, they change it up at least one of the nights and do the country thing

I saw them open for Motorhead and they killed it.

Loved 'em.

Interesting about the three nights thing. Will keep that in the memory bank.

I've seen them at least twice here in the past year and a half. And it's been a country set both times. One of their recent FB posts said something like, "almost done with the country shows, then it's time to rock!"

The lead singer for the opening act then alluded that the suckers would be playing rock last night, so I was hopeful. But pffft.

Their country stuff isn't horrible, but get back to what you're really known for and are good at - rock.

It didn't help that the Rev then went on and was joined mid-set by some unknown aging chubby "punk-rocker" (named Jules Darifa or some crap) who butchered three or four of his songs , including Jezebel, one of my favs.

Best part of the show last night was the opener, Reno Divorce.

ETA - Jello Biafra

Jello helped found the legendary Dead Kennedys. Wrote insanely good lyrics and with East Bay Ray on guitar and D.H. Peligro on drums, they were nuts. Should have been a treat, but if you mangle the words, then it stinks.

Jezebel is a good tune by the Rev. I love that album.

been doin' some old school rummaging lately, and i came back to this particular song/performance - to me, it captures the true DIY essence of the whole genre ... before the fashion vics and left wing loons high jacked the mother ###### -

they look, and sound, like they barely had their instruments for a week -  Punk

Listening to "California Drought" by NOFX. Hits home.  Three months, bro. Good job. I remember getting those chips, even for the day.  .

came across this one back in '84, on the FLIPSIDE vinyl Fanzine album it was released on (pic in vid) ... lead singer Michelle "on the ####### rag" Bell - one of the lost SoCal 80s gems -  Golden Boys  - she could wail like a mo'   :banned:

By the way, don't know how this will go over among the typical punk/HC set, but this was a great little record also from the aughts that wound up so far under the radar because of the band's credibility. But it's a good punk/garage record nonetheless. Phantom Planet's "Phantom Planet" was seriously underrated as an indie record, a garage record, a sprawler, and a rocker. Rich L.A. kids weren't supposed to sound this good.

Phantom Planet - By The Bed

God I have been listening to so much, I don't even know what I'd call it, Indie pop-punk (maybe?) lately... and I have been loving it.  Direct Hit!, PUP, Jeff Rosenstock, Harley Poe, Pkew Pkew Pkew and Menzingers among others.  Does anyone have thoughts on any of those bands?  They all have an album out in the last year or so.

My friend loves Jeff Rosenstock. I used to like Bomb The Music Industry a bit.

I listened to PUP's first one and really enjoyed it. Their performance on KEXP is worth a watch, for sure. Reservoir sorta soars live.  The Menzingers is sort of in queue to listen to for me.

Heard the interrupters on faction interview. I'm not a huge ska guy but they sound like good peeps. Plus the lead singer is a girl and she is cure. Just saying

Never  heard of any of those bands Jaysus listed except Menzingers

I used to have that Flipside record. I loved a few of the bands on that thing. The Wipers 'Is This Real' is one of those albums that never gets old to me. I remember when Rolling Stone used to do a top 100 guitarist list way back when, and Greg Sage would always sneak in. Always felt like a victory for punk. Still rocks

I saw them a few weeks back, they put on an AWESOME show.  I am a fan now, and I am totally sweet on Aimee Interrupter

PUP and Pkew Pkew Pkew are both incredible live. PUP's two albums both amazing.

I like Jeff Rosenstock as well, not quite as all out as PUP but still really good. Have you checked out The Dirty Nil?

Poetry Written In Gasoline

The Deadly Rhythm

Worms Of The Senses/Faculties of the Skull

The Refused Party Program

Tannhauser/Derive

I would give The Shape Of Punk To Come a full listen. It segues between songs and is really meant to be heard as an entity unto itself.
Giving this a well deserved bump, especially Tannhauser/Derive.
