*** Official Rams at 49ers TNF Thread *** (1 Viewer)

Last year he was definitely slumping. Bad OL, no other weapons to take the pressure off, historically bad rookie QB, and unimaginative playcalling didn't help.

I'm not saying its just him--McVay, the playcalling, some other weapons on the offense, and Goff improving are helping him a lot. But he looks good this year, compared to last year.
Bare minimum, Gurley is a competent RB. Having even an average level offense around him makes all the difference in the world.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but he looks about the same to me as last year. His team is better. He's gotten goal line carries and found the end zone. Maybe his 3 scores were really good runs/catch, but I suspect they weren't particularly memorable scores. His output may be better in terms of scoring, but this is SF he's facing here, not Denver.

I don't know if the 49ers are really covering Kupp or what the deal is. Goff, you were giving him the 1k yard stare last week, that's all that happened. Now get back to throwing to your boy

You said you didn't even watch the first half, other than the failed GL attempts at the end of the half. What are you basing this on?

50 other running backs would have picked up that blitz.  Because YPC.
Picking up a blitz is a pretty basic concept in the NFL. Doing it vs not doing it isn't the difference between "good" and "average" it's the difference between "employed" and "unemployed". I don't think he's the 51st best RB in the league or anything, but let's not get carried away over a blitz pick-up.

The other 66.67% of the games he's played in this year.
1. He looked good in those games as well. To me, at least, which is why I haven't sold him despite opportunities to after he's produced.

2. Its just weird to me to comment on a game you aren't even watching, in this kind of detail. "Maybe the 3 TD's were impressive, but I suspect they weren't". It just really screams that you have an agenda for some reason.

Gurley had 19 touches for 136 yards and 2 TDs last week
Very good week against an epically horrific team. But yeah, he produced. Henry had a big game last week too. I don't think he's any better now than I did last year.

How many failed cracks from the 1 does a guy have to fail at for it to matter?

Man Gurley looked good there, I mean he couldn't gain a yard in two tries but to me he looked amazing. Maybe he just needs better coaching.
Yeah, kind of funny how people are slobbering over him and dogging Hyde.  Hyde has looked like the better runner but Gurley has the better fantasy stats.

Its like people have never watched a RB with GL carries before. Are you guys under the impression that guys who get GL carries score the majority of the time? Gillislee is historically good at it, over 70% conversion rate I believe. That's ridiculously good.

The NFL average is something like 40%, across all RB's. Which accounts for the dips and spikes among individual RB's like Gurley.

He's already got 2 GL TD's this game, and the SF defense is obviously selling out completely to stop the embarrassment on that front. And the Ram's OL still isn't even good.

The agenda from guys who obviously gave up on Gurley too soon in this thread is so clear.

I agree. And I like Gurley, and he certainly looks better this year. But Hyde is hitting the holes faster and going down less easy, at least tonight. That's my impression.

There are some guys who are really great at goal line, but you're correct the majority are not.

Best I ever saw was Marcus Allen. He just had a knack for finding the endzone.

Priest Holmes. Inside 5 yards it was automatic. I don't ever remember him getting stopped.

LT2 as well. Dude was a machine.
