Official Reggie Bush Thread (1 Viewer)

11/23/2007 2:21:00 PM et

Reggie Bush (shin) was withheld from Saints practice Friday and will be a game-time decision against the Panthers.

Bush was limited on Wednesday and Thursday, so it's a bad sign he didn't make enough improvement to get back to work on Friday. Saints coach Sean Payton remains optimistic: "I'm hopeful with the work Reggie has gotten, we'll have him." If Bush cannot play, Aaron Stecker would start with Pierre Thomas spelling him. Stecker would be the better fantasy flex play.

As previously noted, Reggie Bush may miss today's game against the Carolina Panthers with a bruised left shin. I will note that FOXSports.com insider John Czarnecki advised his readers this morning that Bush will play, but I'll obviously be following up and posting the second-year man's official status in the hour leading up to kickoff.

Meanwhile, as Biloxi Sun-Herald staffer Larry Holder noted this morning, head coach Sean Payton already said he'd give veteran Aaron Stecker and rookie Pierre Thomas more touches regardless of Bush's injury.

"Reggie has been more of the focus for us as far as the every-down player -- we still move him around some but probably not to the same extent that we were when we had he and Deuce [McAllister] both healthy," Payton said. "But Stecker and Pierre can play bigger roles and I think you'll see them play bigger roles in these next six weeks."

Holder went on to note that Bush is the 28th best running back in the NFL with 485 yards on 135 carries and four touchdowns. It averages out to a pedestrian 3.6 yards per carry. The only time anyone came near rushing for 100 yards came against Seattle when Bush ran for 97 yards.

The lack of explosive plays has also escaped Bush this season. His longest run went for 22 yards and longest reception was 25 yards.

So far this season, Stecker has 39 carries for 142 yards and a score. Thomas may only have seven carries, but has rushed for 46 yards (6.6 yards per carry) and a touchdown. Thomas holds the longest rush of the season on his 24-yard scoring run against Atlanta.

active, yes, but is he a good start? seems like they might work in stecker and thomas regardless, and bush has had a penchant for sitting out more plays than usual lately.

rotoworld: Reggie Bush (shin) is active in Week 12 and "likely will start," according to the New Orleans Times Picayune.

However, the newspaper adds that Bush could be limited, with Aaron Stecker and Pierre Thomas potentially seeing "extended action." We'd still use Bush as an RB2/flex, but he's a risky RB1 play in fantasy leagues.

Active or not, he is out of my startling line up. Which of course means he will likely have a big game.

But I don't like the comments from Payton that the other backs will get more carries even if Bush plays. Bush needs lots of touches to be effective, and to me it doesn't look like he will get enough of them.

Who would you start? Bush or Thomas? Stecker isn't an option for me. Non PPR league.

I would definately start him in PPR leagues, not so sure in standard leagues.

Can anyone provide some insight on how he Panthers do defending against RB's in the receiving game?
Well Bush himself had 9 receptions for 52 yards last time out. Only Bush (52), Warrick Dunn (3-51) and Norwood (3-34) have more than 30 yards receiving. Vonta Leach had 5 catches for 26 yards.

Rain after the game? Field coming apart? What are you talking about? Weather report says sunny.

Can any homers that live in Charlotte confirm this? How's the weather there?
Cannot confirm. We were supposed to get rain today, but so far just gray skies. Field should be just like any other game, we have not had any rain here at all and no High School or College games.

FOX pregame just said Bush's shin injury is the same as Steve Smith of the Panthers. Payton will "allow him to play, but he will be monitored because he IS IN ALOT OF PAIN". In my opinion, the other RB's will get some significant work. I'm worried Bush won't finish the game.

I'd bet Bush will be taking something for the pain and I doubt the Saints would play him if he could make the injury worse. Start'em if you got'em.

:( Mort said his shin was badly bruised. Also said he tested it this morning to see if he can put pressure on it. That's not a good thing for a RB, if he has to see if he can put pressure on it, what is he gonna do when it gets hit? RB's take too many shots to the legs and I would expect Bush to be limited. Who knows, he could make the most of his touches but it's too risky, I'm going with Selvin.

Go info....with pain, I'd expect Bush to say he's "fine" and play the whole game.

damn it should i jsut sit bush then and go with K Smith, Morris and Parker??
I'm having a hard time with it too man...I've got Kolby as well.....BUT, you have got to stick with Bush and the time tested formula....NEVER sit your studs!

Bush has not scored a TD on "real" grass all year. Now mix in a sore leg and possible rain. He needs to cut to be effective.

I'm sitting him for Dayne so I'm sure Reggie will have his first 3 TD game of the year.

I'm going Branch in PPR. Seattle throwing the ball all over the place anyway. I can't let my opponent get a leg up on me if Bush can't finish. Can't take the risk.
Same boat ... just Hackett instead!

My only other options are Stallworth or Watson. God, this is killing me. I just can't afford to lose this week and there's no way to know how involved Bush will be.

I'm sticking with him but I feel sick about it.

Can we get a final weather/field conditions update from Carolina?
i am in charlotte. it is very overcast, in the 40's. They say it is gonna rain, but it is so frikin dry here and we are in a drought that the water may evaporate. seriously! i have bush and considering playing Fragile Freddy over him but i have a hard time sitting a plyer like bush. 5 catches for 60 yards would be a pretty good game. especially with his upside.
