I guess the only people jacked about this game are Redskin fans...that or everbody knows Seattle is going to steam roll them, so we don't need to talk about it.

I really don't think there is too many of us here or anywhere else outside the Pacific NW. It was always good for me being from Detroit to be a Seahawks fan because I was one of a kind. But sometimes I yearn to be cheering with other Seahawk fans. Now living in Germany I don't find too many Hawk fans but I have one or two friends over here that I have Hawk talk with. I can't watch the games with anyone anyway because I get way too nervous. I'm just hoping to get a chance to bring the Hawks to my home town in early February and I promise to meet them there.Seahawk_17: Seahawk fans are here. I don't think there are even that many in the PNW. I live in Oregon, and it is only a 3 hr drive to Seattle, and there are not that many fans here.Seattle is a what have you done for me lately town. Sure they have fans now, but where were they in the last five years.I really don't think there is too many of us here or anywhere else outside the Pacific NW. I don't know why people think Seattle has had playoff "failures." They haven't really had playoff games to fail in. This is their fourth playoff game since 1988! Last year was terrible, yes. But they were a 9-7 team playing a team they just couldn't seem to beat. The year before taking the Packers to overtime at Green Bay was not a failure at all. Disappointing, sure it was. I agree with you that if the Redskins score 20 on points on offense alone the Seahawks are in trouble. They are in deep trouble if that happens. I think Seattle scores around 20-24 regardless so if the Skins can get 20 points the game is going to be really tight. I asked for this matchup so I'm going to be watching this game knowing that. This should be a good game. If the Seahawks can successfully run Alexander all game, or if Hasselbeck has unlimited time to pass with no defensive pressure from Washington, the Skins are in serious trouble. If the Redskins can control the ball like in the first meeting, get more turnovers than Seattle, and manage at least 20 points generated solely by their offense, Seattle is in trouble. I've got no clue how it's going to play out.
Because of past playoff failures Seattle fans are naturally a bit nervous. You can't be blamed for that. We Redskin fans are used to several years of watching our team defeat itself; we know.
If Seattle is clearly better they'll just win. If the teams are evenly-matched, there's no way I'd bet against the Redskins in a tight game right now, not with their recent performances and their coach's record.
Good luck to you Seahawk fans. It oughta be a great game.![]()
Go Skins.
History has not been good to us. :( WE HAVE NO CHANCE!I guess the only people jacked about this game are Redskin fans...that or everbody knows Seattle is going to steam roll them, so we don't need to talk about it.![]()

Go Skins.
The Seahawks are in my opinion on paper the best club the franchise has ever fielded and a legitimate super bowl contender.
They set a franchise record for points scored at 452. The old record was 418 by the 12-4 1984 club.
The Sehawks led the NFL in points scored in 2005, the first time the club has done so.
They nearly broke the franchise record for points allowed as well! They gave up 271 points in 2005. The record is held by that memorable 1991 club that seemed to have a impenetrable wall for a defense led by Cortez Kennedy. Many said that defense would have given up a lot less points had the offense not been so incompetant to the point that they would constantly give the other club short fields.
They are 7th in points allowed, which ranks 3rd-highest in club history.
Holmgren has proven that he does have the ability to win a super bowl when he fields a club this good (And Holmgren beat Bill Parcells / Bill Belichick to do it). That's not a guarantee but it has to make you feel good. The last two Seahawks' playoff clubs were nothing like this. The 1999 club was 12th in points scored and 8th in points allowed. The 2003 club was 7th and 16th. This 2005 edition is also proving to be dominant against the run and have a lethal and balanced offensive attack.
I think the Seahawks will roll the Redskins.
I was a pre-teen the last time they were in a game this big so I'm pretty nervous. I think I'll feel a lot less jumpy next week if and when they get their first playoff victory in 21 years today. I don't think I was this nervous in recent years because the team had not yet gelled and I didn't expect a whole lot. I expect them to win today something Redskins fans are use to, something new to a Seahawk fan. There's no way I'm nervous about this game. Not overconfident, but very very confidant. More than just "on paper", the Hawks have provena desire and ability to win. Of our 3 losses, one was sheer exhaustion in Jax, a bonked FG in DC(which shouldn't have been tied anyway after a horrible PI call led to a Skins TD) and resting starters made up the 3rd in GB. Lofa and the D get 2-3 players back from injury and have impressed me as the main reason we're 13-3 DESPITE the gaudy numbers the O has put up. The difference in the D has been the difference in the close games that would've been losses in year's past. I don't even need to talk about all our returning probowlers, their actions have spoken louder than words all year.I can finally say this, it's good to be a Seahawks fan. I expect a good solid thumping of a worn out team. We'll put the naysayers to rest and more importantly, we'll get the monkey off our backs. Good luck all, enjoy the game. and GO SEAHAWKS!!!!The Seahawks are in my opinion on paper the best club the franchise has ever fielded and a legitimate super bowl contender.

That blogger seems not to know Gibbs very well. Gibbs comes from the Lou Holtz school of speaking to the media about opposing teams. Every team, even the Little Sisters of the Poor, is the '85 Bears and "golly, we're just fortunate to even be in this game." Gibbs never pimps his teams when speaking about an opponent, and he never disses the opposing team. Never. He's about as tight-lipped about his team as anyone out there.January 10, 2006

Redskins Making Excuses
After listening to Redskins coach Joe Gibbs talk to the media this week, it sure sounds like he's starting early with excuses why they're going to lose Saturday. First and foremost, he says, "We have six days to prepare, they'll have 14." Not quite Joe. They've had an extra week to relax and get healthy, but they had to wait for your team to beat Tampa. THAT'S when the Hawks could finally start looking at tape of their next opponent, and preparing. I also know Gibbs is spending most of the day and night at Redskins Headquarters, along with his coaches, all so they can trot out that sorry offense Saturday. Joe, do yourself a favor - go home and take a nap. We'll wake you and your team up around 5pm Saturday!

Be careful with that analysis. I'd put Washington's back seven up with any in the league in terms of athleticism top to bottom. Their LB's in particular - Washington, Arrington and Marshall - are all very mobile (Marshall's a converted S) and all excel at reaction to tipped balls and closing on ball carriers. There's no doubt, however, that the most interesting matchup in this game is the Seattle offense vs. the Washington defense. Each team's best unit will be on the field. Big on big. (Keep an eye in particular on Alexander's runs to the left. That's the strongest part of Seattle's line, and the side of the 'Skins defense that has given up the most big plays.)I think the tempo is crucial and an article I place below goes into it. I think the Redskins defense is good not great, and if Seattle controls the tempo the Washington offense will be under great pressure.
What the Seahawks do not do well against is defenses that have great athletic skill. The offense revolves around pinpoint accuracy and is not usually rushed or hurried. The Skins are a procedural and scheme oriented unit that wants to blitz, confuse, and attack. Seattle's offense operates under the premise of timing and perfection. That is a good matchup for the Seahawks and the #1 reason I wanted Washington to win last week. Against a much more athletic unit like in Chicago or Carolina Seattle will have a much more difficult time executing their offense. But today, I'd be very surprised if the Seahawks don't move the ball with relative ease vs the Skins.
Also JEREMY STEVENS scores today. The heavy play on the run by the Skins opens up a very underrated TE to rule the middle. Leth sthee what you got Sylvesthter.
Seahawks to set tempo
I'm not necessarily nervous about the game, but because of the game. I am confident they will win also but I'm still nervous just because its the second round of the playoffs and the Hawks have never had a home game in the 2nd round. That's enough for me. GO SEAHAWKS!There's no way I'm nervous about this game. Not overconfident, but very very confidant. More than just "on paper", the Hawks have provena desire and ability to win. And BTW, Los Angeles has officially thrown in it's support of Seattle by raining here on gameday. SOLIDARITY!!
21 years is a long ####### time.I don't think the Redskins offense is that bad it's just madly inconsistent. They will be fine today. I don't think the Skins are nearly as good as the Panthers or Bears athletically and I say that without hesitation. I would have said that ten days or ten weeks ago. They are good, no doubt about it. But they are not great and I think the Seahawks offense is close to being great. I just think Seattle has the advantage in this matchup but that is coming from a Hawks fan. I tell myself I'd think the same thing if I wasn't but I guess we won't know until the final gun. Damn this game can't start quick enough.Be careful with that analysis. OTOH, what may be the decisive matchup is when the 'Skins offense is facing the Seattle defense. People are paying too much attention IMHO to the performance last week against Tampa. That offense is not that bad. At times in fact they've been quite explosive. What they certainly have been is inconsistent.
If Washington can hold and move the ball and shorten the game with time of possession (like they did in Week 4), they will have stolen a lot of Seattle's strength away from them because Seattle's offense will have fewer possessions and fewer scoring opportunities.
Again, this is going to be a fascinating game.![]()
Damn I wish we had Hamlin. I have no idea if a lot of fans have even seem him play but I'd put him up against S. Taylor anyday. Both are excellent impact (no pun intended) safties. This will be the first time in about six weeks that their secondary is at full strength.
Not counting Hamlin![]()
21 years is a long ####### time.
I have always said this about the Redskins. Good teams find ways to win. Sure they only had 120 some yards in Offense, but the defense put points on the board for them, then had an interception to seal the game.In the Dallas game their offense did crap, until the last two minutes and then boom. Even in the Seattle game their offense did just enough(especially on third downs) to win.I don't think the Redskins offense is that bad it's just madly inconsistent. They will be fine today. I don't think the Skins are nearly as good as the Panthers or Bears athletically and I say that without hesitation. I would have said that ten days or ten weeks ago. They are good, no doubt about it. Good breakdowns throughout the thread by the way. I wouldn't keep coming to this forum if we had a bunch of people just jumping down each others throats without even trying to back up their arguments. That gets old, real quick.
Thanks, and likewise to you. Smack talk can be fun but gets old real fast. This may be an especially fun game because the asymmetrical nature of these two teams means that coaching will play an especially big role in this game, and two of the best coaches in the league are facing off.Good breakdowns throughout the thread by the way. dance for the divisional win. Two pickle coming next week!
Good luck the rest of the way. And it is THAT exact reason why they aren't paying up to Alexander's current contract request.Good game, guys. I was amazed Seattle's offense did as well as it did without SA.
Class fan for sure. You guys have had Championships. We're just looking to taste a little of that Super Bowl fever that is second nature to a true Redskins fan. I'm getting cronkedGood game, guys. Without the NFL MVP, with three turnovers, with bad play on Special Teams the team still advances to its first Conference Championship game since 1983. Matt Hasselbeck is the man and I think he is one of the most underrated QBs in football.
Expect more of the SOS, Seahawks are weak, and this that and the other from fans next week. But this was the problem game. Next week the team is still at home, still the best offensive team in the NFL, and still the favorite. And they won't be nervous at all. They have the monkey off their back and I'm lovin' it!

Right back at ya Fatness. Skins worried me much more than next week's opponent. We got that monkey off our back and fan or not, this is the best team in the NFC. Bring those crazy mammels next week! The Hawks certainly deserved that one. Congratulations to them, and to all you Hawk fans: enjoy the ride, and may you go far. I'm impressed by Seattle, they played very well through adversity today.![]()

Believe me, the 'Skins lifers like me and especially our parents' generation (I'm 32) remember what it was to have years of futility. 'Skins fans old enough to remember the teams the years before Lombardi and Allen turned things around (between 1969 and 1978) remember a team that went around 30 years without winning much of anything. I hope you've turned the corner on that, and if you have it'll be a special time. Enjoy it.Class fan for sure. You guys have had Championships. Skins need a little more help on the OL and a little better playcalling but they are very solid. I mean, very solid. With Gibbs you guys are good to go for the immediate future and the core of that defense is as good as any in the NFL. It's just so strange for me as far as the Hawks go. I'm from Detroit but the Seahawks were my very first team. Before the Wings, Pistons, or Tigers which I support with all my being. The last time the Hawks were in a game this big was 83' playing a Raiders team we had no chance of beating. My teams have had great success in other sports but this is a strange place for me. I really believe they have a better than 50 percent chance to win next week and I have big time connections in my hometown for XL tickets. This is great! I'm like a 8 year old at Christmas.Believe me, the 'Skins lifers like me and especially our parents' generation (I'm 32) remember what it was to have years of futility. This game was decided by what I thought it would be: the 'Skins offense versus the 'Hawks defense. I figured Seattle was good for around 20 points against the Washington defense (don't remember if I wrote that prediction anywhere). The key to me was whether the 'Skins would score more or less than that number. Your defense came to play today, and I have to confess some dissatisfaction with some of Gibbs' playcalling early on.
You'll note the 'Skins offense started getting chunks of yardage when they started running decoys and variations of their normal passing plays in the second half. To me, this was a game to open the playbook up from the start and they didn't do that. Still, they're a run-first team and Seattle didn't let them run at all.
Seattle will score enough points to win on anybody. The key IMHO will continue to be their defense. If they hold their opposition to 17 points or less, I like their chances of winning.
dance bump.Yeah, I'm loving it. I was so nervous during that game yesterday. I think the Hawks will be much calmer next week as well, now that this '84 monkey is off their backs. I think I'd rather play Chicago as well.Is it me? Or does the world just seem like a nicer happier place today?
I don't think it's just you cuz I got the same warm fuzzy feeling. No alarm clock to get up and set up breakfast and the TVs for the fellas. Just sleeping in until 10, knowing that the NFC championship game is in Seattle on Sunday. Tommorrow it just gets better as I get to field a hundred "congrats" at work and get to point and laugh at the "easey schedule"-ers and Skins bandwaggoners. Is it me? Or does the world just seem like a nicer happier place today?
Chicago. Grossman could have a tough time with the 12th man.Carolina or Chicago?
Carolina is balanced and scares me a ton. Chicago would feel like a repeat of the Washington game and feels much more winnable.
I'm not sure it matters. Chicago has the less experienced QB but the Panthers can be had on the ground. Look at what the Cowboys did to them in week 16. I like either matchup to tell you the truth after watching them play today. Panthers no doubt have more weapons on offense but maybe the Seahawks will triple Smith and he'll only get 100 and a touch!Chicago. Grossman could have a tough time with the 12th man.Carolina or Chicago?
