*** Official SF 49ers 2015 thread *** Chip Kelly new HC (1 Viewer)

Next season, if they are still in dumpster fire mode, go bigger with the banner, hire a blimp and have this on the side of it:

JED DECREPIT 'EM.

A few Kawakami Talking Points:

* To me, the obvious attempt to use Eddie DeBartolo Jr’s name as a shield was a typically shallow Jed York ploy.
An obvious next-day follow up: If you turn to your uncle as an advisor and say you don’t need help in a coaching search because you always have Eddie… why didn’t you listen to Eddie D on Harbaugh all last year?

Answer: Jed only uses Eddie D’s name when Jed is in trouble. It’s weak.

And he always over-does it when he’s in trouble.

The truth is Jed never asked Eddie D about Harbaugh because he knew the answer.

DeBartolo is a big fan of Harbaugh’s. He’s on record about that.

Remember this when the Yorks try to hide behind what DeBartolo did–when it really counted, when they were about to commit the worst mistake in franchise history (plotting against Harbaugh when they had no clue about what to do after him), they ignored Eddie D, who absolutely knew better.
Of course Jed always invokes Uncle Eddie's name - even though Eddie himself says they never consult him. How do you pander to the fanbase? By lying about Uncle Eddie. Who ruined that team because the NFL mandated a scheme he couldn't spend his way out of anymore - the Salary Cap. Does the name Vinny Cerratto ring a bell here? But as long as the name Eddie is spoken, the fanbase - one of the dumbest in the NFL - will fap over.

* If we’re looking for early hints, the new coach’s salary is going to be a huge point here–if Jed pays $7-9M a year, that’s the tell. The coach is the new power.

And if it’s somebody like Sean Payton (if he can be acquired from New Orleans), the salary is going to be over $7M per.

But Baalke’s not giving up that power without a struggle and he always wins 49ers power struggles.

Matt Maiocco reported that Baalke has quietly received a contract extension through the 2018 season, which, Baalke being Baalke, the GM wouldn’t exactly confirm or deny.
They gave Terry Donahue an extension too. They then had to can his butt. They never learn, do they?

* The most interesting part of the presser was the lack of definition about Baalke’s true role in the next days and months.
Baalke is leading the coaching search–his third as 49ers GM–but York was blurry about how the football operation will work when they come upon a candidate they want to hire.

Will that new coach report to Baalke on all matters? Or might Baalke have to give up some of his treasured personnel power if the new coach wants it?

Unclear. Purposely unclear. I think the Yorks are setting it up for Baalke to prove it and lose it with this hire: Get a great coach or else we’ll peel off your power.

Which is not a stable situation but will be intriguing for coaches who might think they can walk into an interview, charm the Yorks, get Baalke temporarily on board… then grab at the power.

If the 49ers win immediately, the coach will be the power. That will happen.

But if there are struggles early on the field, as always, the 49ers will devolve into a power struggle and that never has quite worked out for the Yorks, has it?
With Baalke still there, and even The Rat still The Negotiator: yeah, even if they get a Big Time Head Coach, it's gonna work out like it always had with any head coach, even Mike Singletary.

I actually think Cleveland IS the better situation than SF for a coach. Cleveland knew their FO dynamics/personnel weren't working and blew it up. SF's also is not working but they have no idea.

Back in the glory days of the 49er.com message board, the FO had a mole in there, basically bashing Eddie D. there in praise of John York, posting how John York was saving all the money Eddie D. wasted, like locking up all the bottled water for a drinking fountain lol. That's how out of touch that organization is. You wonder why they go through head coaches like nothing? Even GM's, which is worse because the GM's they have hired have killed the franchise more.

ETA: that mole might had been Marathe or Jed himself.

Don't know what this comparison has to do with SF specifically, but anywhere is a better situation than SF, unfortunately. Jed York is the worst owner in all of sports. He is unaccomplished, never succeeded at anything on his own, spoiled, and apparently won't listen to anyone other than those already in his circle. He is a trust fund baby who is used to getting his own way.

As a fan I hope he either steps down or learns from his errors, although this is unlikely.

Sean Payton staying in New Orleans. So good for him. I doubt there was any real interest in the Santa Clara job, not with the status quo of the FO.

I never bought that rumor either. But wouldn't surprise me is that Jed hires Holmgren.
He might be too old:

http://www.mercurynews.com/crime-courts/ci_27268842/san-francisco-49ers-ceo-jed-york-sued-age

The lawsuit alleges that York and other management officials began to shift their hiring focus after naming Gideon Yu, a former Facebook, YouTube and Yahoo executive, as chief strategy officer. The 34-year-old York wanted the 49ers to become the equivalent of a "technology startup within the NFL," according to the lawsuit.

"When asked why the 49ers wanted to hire these young technology workers, York said: "Because they made a lot of money, they did a lot of cool things before they turned 40 years old, and they don't want to play golf six days a week," court documents allege.

They just hired Kelly.

:wall: and :lmao:

After a thorough search, Trent & I are thrilled to announce Chip Kelly as the new #HeadCoach of the @49ers

This hire could flame out badly. Probably will. But I also think it has a chance of working out splendidly, which is more than I can say about the last hire.

The real question here:

Does he last two full seasons?
Yes but that is the exact amount of time he is with the team. That is when they get rid of him. 1st season is a free ride. Stupidity continues season #2. By the end of it, another 4th place finish in the division ends Kelly's days as an NFL coach.

Man this Baalke guy is horrible. He just set this team back at least 2 years.

So what are the thoughts on Kap and Hyde now?
I may consider K-stink as my backup QB. Kelly may just let him be his sucky self and that means lots of running. 1st read covered, time to run.

I guess this is the glass half full view. The other factor is that none of the other candidates really excited me. If Hue Jackson was the premier hire this offseason, then the talent pool was pretty shallow.

Makes me wonder if Anthony Davis will come out of retirement, if he hasn't already. He left because he didn't want to play for Bozo, like a lot guys who left.

The upside: in two years, Jed, Baalke, and Kelley could be all ****canned for real football people, so hang in there!

You think Kelly will bring Billy Davis with him? That'd be interesting. Wasn't he DC there during the terrible mid 2000 years?

No offense Drummer, but there is absolutely ZERO chance that an owner Sh!tcans himself... ZERO. I repeat... ZERO CHANCE JED YORK IS REPLACED OR THE YORKS DIVEST OF THE TEAM. ZERO.

We the Niner faithful are unfortunately stuck like Chuck with this dweeb.

...unless someone makes him an offer for the team that he can't refuse. So yeah, we're stuck with him.

Hilarious that Krappernick jerseys were on clearance the last two weeks and were quickly reverted back to full to price after the Chip signing.

We the Niner Faithful are stuck like Chuck.

I have immediate and extended family members that bought into the PSL b00shat when they were constructing the Santa Clara stadium at an absurd $15k-ish for the PSLs. I stayed far, far away knowing that I could hit up the local CL for quarters on the dollar tivkets come gameday.

They thought it was a guaranteed cash money maker and thought selling the Super Bowl 50 tickets would make up for the PSL. Over the holidays I asked how much they sold their seats for and they won't know if they won the SB lottery for Niner Faithful season ticket holders until ??? I advised them all against but you can't win 'em all I suppose.

Jed will always get over on you when you call yourself one of the "Faithful". He bet's on the dumb fanbase - one of the dumbest in the NFL - who still think Bill Walsh will be resurrected somehow. Bill Walsh is DEAD. He will always remain DEAD. You won't see him ever on the sideline because he is DEAD. So as long as you call yourself one of the "Faithful" you deserve one right in the keester.

Sorry man, but that's the truth.

He can step down from being CEO of the franchise. He was only inserted for getting the stadium deal done from going door to door, selling that snake oil to the idiots in Santa Clara. Hell, that stadium will be a joke once Kronke World gets built near Los Angeles.

Yes he was. Nolan had to take over because he sucked so bad. I think Nolan is now out of a job now as well.

I'm not the kind of person to go troll a Seahawks thread, so I'll post in here (even though some of those #######s do it in here)...

This is really fun to watch, furthermore, I loaded the boat on the Panthers.

You won't see any Squawk fans here because their division history is only tied to Harbaugh. One was just St in this thread not long ago saying how sorry he was to see A DIVIISION RIVALRY END WHEN THEY ARE STILL IN THE SAME DIVISION. Now you know why AFCW fans didn't care when they left

Their Pac 12 teams are still I'm the basement. It will be funny when the Rams are back in LA. They will start to try to claim turf there wile forgetting they were once going to move there once. While they only had the Raiders as rivals there too, who didn't care about them either
