The odd thing with Alves is seeing Barca fans drumming him out of town, or is that just GPJ? How many cups did Barca win with him, a dozen or so?
Agreed, but I think it is a vocal minority. Alves has been one of my favorite players to watch and I'll miss him. Despite all of the flak he gets lately, he also had some game winners last year.
I did a very scientific poll of looking at the Twitter comments under a tweet about him on /barcastuff, and it seemed pretty split 50-50.

I've gone on way too long about how bad he is, there's no point in going further. Proof's in the pudding.
The barcastuff guy needs to change his ####### picture.

I don't know the Orlando area at all, but I have read this moves the stadium closer to a bad section of town.

At least this gets them away from the PR nightmare of using eminent domain against a Church.

ORLANDO – August 4, 2014 – Orlando City Soccer Club President Phil Rawlins joined Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer today to announce an updated location for the downtown soccer stadium along Church St., just one block west of the original location.

“We applaud the Mayor for finding an alternative solution that is a win for everyone involved,” said Rawlins. “The new location allows us to remain on schedule to play our matches in the new stadium starting with the home opener in 2016. Our fans will benefit from added amenities created by the new location such as more entertainment areas prior to and after the matches.

“Importantly, this is also a win for the community of Parramore. Orlando City is committed to Parramore’s future and we will serve as a role-model for service and citizenship. We have a proven track record of delivering on our promises, and we look forward to working closely with our community partners.”

Enhanced Fan Amenities:

The basic design of the stadium remains unchanged, with initial seating expected for approximately 19,500 fans, a dedicated supporters’ stand, club and suites, and the larger-than-life-sized lion statue overlooking all the action!

The new site will enhance the match day experience by creating:

Additional plaza areas for future development that can be used for amenities and entertainment zones pre and post matches, including potential kids’ areas, concerts, etc.

More space for infrastructure and improved operations.

More room for premium amenities including year-round on-site parking for stadium guests, providing a true end-to-end first-class experience.

Manchester City have moved to protect themselves from allegations of breaking FFP rules, financial foul play if you will, with the Premier League champions confirming they will pay Frank Lampard’s full salary during his loan spell with the club.
Wages covered

It was confirmed by Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini on Sunday that Lampard would be joining the club on a temporary basis before completing a permanent deal to New York City FC, the Citizens’ sister side.

This short-term move came as something of a surprise and around suspicions that Manchester City are using their new found relations as a way to circumnavigate UEFA rulings. However, as reported by BBC Sport, this is not the case with Lampard.

The England international’s salary at Chelsea was around £150,000-per-week, and it has been reported that he will continue to earn something similar following his departure, although with a pay structure based more on bonuses.

Dodgy deal?

Lampard left Chelsea earlier in the summer following the expiration of his contract, with this departure bringing an end to his illustrious 13-year spell at Stamford Bridge. The veteran midfielder was long expected to move to New York, although this was not confirmed until mid-July.

With NYCFC not set to join MLS until the 2015 season, it was claimed that Lampard could move to other sister club Melbourne City FC in order to maintain his fitness until then. But it is Manchester City who have taken advantage of this six month or so window.

But Manchester City do not feel they are bending the rules with this, and paying 100 percent of the 36-year-old’s wages would appear an attempt to prove it. There will, however, will be those that question the ethics of trading between this ‘family’ of clubs.

Manchester City may be covering the costs of Lampard but, given they are part owners of NYCFC, then those in opposition may well point out that it is basically the same cash being used to pay the player. Essentially, Man City pay in part for Lampard wherever he plays his football.

MOOR TIMMAH!

Tim Howard will have a second job this year beyond keeper for Everton -- and perhaps a second career as well down the road. Last week the U.S. national team goalkeeper signed a multi-year agreement to work as an on-air analyst for the NBC Sports Group’s Premier League coverage. The network said Howard will appear on up to 10 Premier League games this season, serving as both a game analyst and on-site studio analyst. His assignments will be scheduled around Everton matches.

“It’s still in its infancy but yes, certainly where I am at the moment, if I could do this after I’d been playing certainly that would be something I would enjoy,” Howard said.

Howard will prepare for his assignments at his home in Manchester, usually the Tuesday or Wednesday of the week he has a weekend assignment.

“Feet up on the couch or in bed, just resting because that’s my job,” Howard said. “It was actually welcomed, all of the information and statistics and game prep kind of filled up the time that I would normally be watching DVDs or something. [NBC Producer] Pierre [Moosa] is very conscious about making sure my day job is paramount. I think we got that right. If you look at Everton’s results prior to myself doing a broadcast, you could say that the balance was good.”

MLS asking $60 million for Chivas USA property. It's a fixer-upper. At least one curious party to meet with league execs.

=====================

At first I was ok with MLS trying to solve this mess but now I am starting to wonder if it is a waste of time.....

Maybe it would be better to shut down Chivas all together and simply open up another expansion spot. There is no shortage of people and cities who want into the league. Then 5-10 years from now when some of the stain is gone, come back to LA for a second team.

shut it down and bump up Indy 11....pretty sure Wilt knows what he'd doing
He is so good. Peter just gets it, for lack of a better term.Indy looks like they are building a viable foundation. Like Orlando and Sacramento before them they just need to keep building until some one with a huge amount of money wants to help them make the leap.

Heard something that they(the 11) average over 10,000 per home game? That's just insane

Yup. They sold out a season ticket base of 7000 last winter and have been averaging over 10k. That is in the NASL (Div2). What Sacramento Republic is doing in USL Pro (Div 3) is even more impressive averaging 13,763. And they are only averaging that much because they moved to a place that only holds 8k. They were getting crowds of over 20k at the other location.

Its no wonder that they caught the eye of the Kings owner.

I think Sacramento is going to leap to the front of the expansion line after the Kings reps and Kevin Johnson meet with Garber during the all star break.

I used to live in the Sacramento area, there is way more interest in sports than actual teams (1, not much in the way of college) there. They love the Kings, even when they're frequently horrible. They lack big corporate money as it's obviously a govt town, but MLS would (obviously) do pretty well there.

Also the Gold Club up there is the first strip club I've ever been to and it's every strip club since for me.
