My Atleti are up 1-0 on Racing... wonder how long that will last.
And they take the first leg 4-0. Nice...This team is insane: coming back from the brink of two exits from the Copa del Rey, to losing 2-0 at home in La Liga 4 days ago to dropping 4 goals today against a decent team like Racing...The finals are going to be Atletico v. Sevilla it looks unless Getafe pulls out a major win at home next week.

And frankly, despite the attendance, Johnson and Adu are making more money than almost every player in MLS and that also makes it difficult to loan players into MLS.
I agree, but you also have to remember that when they were in MLS they also made more money than almost every player in MLS so its not the best comparison.Out of curiosity, do you know what EJ makes for a salary now? I am unsure how loans affect salary. Back in 2005 he was pulling in $875k from MLS per season.
When looking it up, everyone seems to quote his MLS salary as $750k base. Johnson supposedly makes £19k/week but I don't think EPL wages are public so that may be entirely inaccurate. If correct, then he makes about $1.5m/yr which seems reasonable given his MLS wages. Players generally receive the same salary on loan so his salary in Greece is (likely) the same as it was at Fulham.
that is an excellent salary if he makes that much. I know Dempsey is making only around 800k and is obviously significantly more successful than Johnson is.MLS salaries should not be looked at only using their base. The base salary is just the portion that goes against the salary cap. Many players cut deals that see their real wages be higher than the base. I don't understand it totally but any time MLS salaries are released, there are sometimes two columns listed. Base and full compensation which takes into account items like bonuses.

This link from the players union gives some good information

No car, so anything out of subway range is too far- that's the beauty of the new stadium for us city-folk.
I remember reading that this was one of the nice features of the new stadium. It may be further from NYC but is actually more convenient than the Meadowlands because of the transportation.Speaking of the meadowlands, I heard they were starting to tear it down today.

Super easy to get to the new stadium via trainThe Meadowlands was a disaster:goodposting:

Yeah, I figured there were incentives bc they kept using the term base. Just didn't know what it was as no one seems to mention anything other than base. But not sure where you are getting that number for Demps. This is from an article from this past summer on speculation of a move to Everton: "In addition, Everton will offer him wages of £37,000 a week, £12,000 more than he currently earns." Here is another link to top players salaries which includes Clint. He makes a decent chunk of change.

When Dempsey moved from the Revs, their was an article written by the local Revs beat writer Frank Dell'Apa that mentioned his salary was going to grow by 10 times. He was making ~$80k at the time. That was back in 2006 I believe.

Gotcha - he signed an extension thru 2013 recently which I'm sure upped his salary.

these salaries are wonderful. Deuce deserves every penny. Not sure EJ does but hears hoping he can find his feet in Greece

I tuned in to watch a soccer match and got an MMA fight :P
no kidding, it's been a rough one but a typical derby match between the two. Three yellows, one straight red in the first 45 and only two shots on goal combined. Eleven on ten should make for an interesting second half although those numbers may change if it continues like the first.

Damn. Driving corner by Garrard gets headed in by Kuyt. Howard should have gotten a hand on thatbut was too distracted by the pushing and shoving by Kuyt to start.

Nice little double move and cross by Donovan on the other end to get past three Liverpool defenders. Too bad no one wwas on the back post.

They gave Howard a hard time about the goal but Neville was just as much at fault. Unforgivable to let the forward goal side in the six yard box on a set play.

True. You just can't allow a 3 yard header by the guy you are marking in the box.

GOAL!!! Altidore! Hull 1-0 Manchester City
Nice! Any details on how it was scored?
Little outside the 18 yard box...it was a pretty good shot.
From BBC:Hull goal: Man City cannot cope with Jan Venegoor of Hesselink - yeah, I know how they feel. He holds the ball up brilliantly on the edge of the visitors' box and tees up Jozy Altidore to beautifully slot home his first Premier League goal into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

Jozy played a heck of a game I think...He probably played about 65 minutes. He had a goal, and drew two yellows in the first maybe 25 minutes. He was way too athletic for City's defense.

Euro 2012 draw being held Sunday at 6 am Eastern. I don't plan on being up, but for anyone that is, I think EPSN360 will be showing it.

This John Terry mess has brought back a very sad chapter in US soccer history. And it seems some of the parties are finally clearing the air after a decade of lies and coverups.

Makes you wonder how else Sampson should have handled the situation since the way he did ended up with horrible on field results.

"Breaking more than a decade of silence, former U.S. soccer coach Steve Sampson said Tuesday he dropped John Harkes from the national team roster two months before the 1998 World Cup because the American captain was having an affair with the wife of teammate Eric Wynalda..................."

Andy - Grant Wahl did a write up on SI. I will have to find the link. He says Sampson should not have dropped Harkes from the squad and compares it to how Terry lost the arm band but will likely still make the WC squad for England. Says Sampson should have done the same thing with Harkes.

I have seen Arsenal play twice now...Last week vs ManU and now vs Chelsea...Not good
I have no problem bashing Arsenal if they're playing ####ty, but they are by far the better team in this game right now in terms of the run of play. 2 defensive lapses have them down 2-0, but they've been in the Chelsea 3rd for nearly the entire game so far.

:)

Live commentary from espn.com:

25'There are some 'Team Terry' banners in the ground. Those people should be shot.

24'Oh dear Arsenal. Great going forward, rubbish at the back. As soon as their attack broke down it was four v four and Chelsea made them pay.

True, but they are down 2-0 :)I dont hate either or like either team...I really dont hate any teams yet as I just tarted getting into it...I do hate that little Russian striker for Arsenal though. I learned to hate him last week.

Sure, and I think this game is an example of how the team that's playing better isn't necessarily the team that wins the game. Chelsea have had 2 brilliant attacks that produced two goals, and Arsenal, playing without a true striker, don't have the finishing touch needed to break down the defense. The announcer just said it best: "Arsenal have had twice as many scoring chances in this game, according to our statisticians. But it's the ones that find the back of the net that count."Arshavin is kinda a waste of space. I complain about him every week. But he's playing out of position as a striker in this one.

I cannot rave enough about the development of Alex Song. I MIGHT go out on a limb and say he's been Arsenal's most consistent player this season. He's become one of my favorite players after the end of last season and the progression of this season so far.

Obviously it's a little early to tell, but he reminds me a lot of Gilberto Silva back there. Simple, smart, and effective. Not a flashy player, but very solid, very consistent.
