Japan will need to radically alter their approach now. They should be able to control the ball and be aggressive. They will look for a misstep to take advantage of, otherwise they're toast.

Just in case that was too vague a reference...picThat defender did a great Sergio Ramos impression there.
I think they felt they were vulnerable to the US simply beating them in the air or off through balls. Why did Japan spend the first 2/3 of the game just bombing the ball forward when they're clearly capable of controlling possession? Nerves getting the best of them? Strategic decision? I don't get it.
Somehow it's Jamie Carragher's fault. Why did Japan spend the first 2/3 of the game just bombing the ball forward when they're clearly capable of controlling possession? Nerves getting the best of them? Strategic decision? I don't get it.
Of course there aren't going to be as many fouls. They really don't tackle.I'm with Pickles on the fouls. Best thing about the women's game.
I know soccer gets a "it's boring" rap from the non-fans/casual-fans, but anyone who just watches the US games in these last 2 World Cups has been treated to some exciting soccer. Literally all 4 of the US men's games (England game is iffy, but the other 3 were great) were exciting, and each of these last 3 women's games have been great, too.I do like Ian Darke, of course. I know Julie Foudy is a US women's legend, but I think she kinda sucks. Would've loved Efan EkokuThese games have really been entertaining. Good sports viewing here. I'm glad we have Ian Darke in the booth.
. He's the best commentator around. And? It's a different part of the women's game that makes it interesting.Of course there aren't going to be as many fouls. They really don't tackle.I'm with Pickles on the fouls. Best thing about the women's game.

Agree. I like soccer a lot so maybe its hard for me to be objective, but its hard to imagine that the casual fan doesnt find these games pulsating.I know soccer gets a "it's boring" rap from the non-fans/casual-fans, but anyone who just watches the US games in these last 2 World Cups has been treated to some exciting soccer. Shes young - just 22. Was just drafted into the Women's league last year I believe. Also the youngest on the US squad. she'll probably be a mainstay in the future. Why isn't Morgan a starter? Even if they're not going by looks, she should still get the nod.
