Just picked up my U8 team roster. Looks like we're allowed 6 players and goalie on the field.

Anyone recommend a formation? I'm leaning towards a 1-2-3 with mostly direct passing down the flanks and an offside trap going.

Ok- I'm drunk... So take this for wha its worth- if kyle beckerman was a step quicker, he would be.the missing link for the us. His positioning, skills and game sense are phenomenal. He. Is. just. So. Freaking. Slow. Of .Foot.

I loved the Klinsman post game interview...several on point comments...he came off as a very capable leader/coach.

I'm feeling pretty good about the coaching move at this point.

We'll see how we look vs. Costa Rica, but so far so good.

I'd really like to hear what was going on with Adu.

Landon deserved a penalty and Rogers earned an obvious red card. Just brutal.

Some quick thoughts on individuals

Timmy- obviously not much to do in the 2nd half. I thought he looked slow on the first goal, but others disagree.

Castillo- they certainly targeted him and I thought he held up ok. Lack of experience showed and he battled. If Bornstein's out there, you can pretty much tack 2 or 3 chances onto mexico's tally

Boca- still solid as ever

Orazco- again, worked hard, but didn't see anything special. Surprise they called him, but looked ok

Dolo- typical Dolo game. didn't get forward a ton, but thats understandable considering how much possession mexico had in the first half.

Bradley- nothing sticks out for me here.

Beckerman- better 2nd half, but I'm still not a fan. I have to think we can do better at this spot (and obviously, we will once everyone's healthy)

Jones- awful. What happened to all those creative passes we saw in his first few games? Seemed disinterested.

Torres- obviously should be in the middle. Looked weak in the first half

Landon- Looks like his speed is back. Played great. I agree with the spanish guy they had in the booth. I much prefer him in the middle of the park with the freedom to go wide rather than the other way around. Makes it easier for him to get involved

Buddle- Not totally his fault, but a total non-factor

subs-

Rogers- obviously the goal was put on a plate, but loved his energy and pace. Obvious red card should have been given

Agudelo- such a big fan. Cant wait to see what he becomes. Does stuff i have never seen another US forward do.

Clarke- good energy but really snatched at that chance at the top of the box. Created the late chance as well. Still don't want him around though. We have better options

Shea- Looked 20X better than he did at the U-20 2 years ago and 10X better than his last call up. Big kid with good energy and balance. Can't wait to see more.

What did he say?- no sound at the bar.Imo, the formation wasn't helping things- but the energy of the subs was pretty clear. Not sure (from a deaf satndpoint) what much is evident here.

Encouraging start. There's no "sack Klinsmann" Facebook group yet.

I'm interested to see how lineups and tactics evolve between now and the start of WC qualifiers.

Kind of a weird game. I don't feel like I got any sense of how Castillo and Orozco will do going forward. Mexico just didn't create chances. I'm a Beckerman fan. I recognize his limitations, but he always seems to play well when I watch.

Assuming everyone healthy, I'd love to see the following next time out....

Howard

Dolo, Boca, Ream, Lichaj (Would say chandler, but i don't think he can play left)

Dempsey, Bradley, Holden

Landon (behind the strikers)

Shea, Agudelo

I know there was some talk about the US talent pool drying up, but I'm not convinced of that. Re-building the back line is key, but i really think we can piece together an energetic and creative attack if Klinsman can find the right formation and get some chemistry going

Also, I love that Klinsman saw what I saw in Buddle and gave him the start...guy is a warrior with good skill, not great, but definitely solid. I have no idea what Bradley's deal was with him in the WC...just maddening.

What was with no Altidore?
