Dempsey is a nice player but he's hardly worth all of this hullabaloo. I feel like he will be resented wherever he ends up.

He's a nice fit for Spurs when you think of it, though. He can play anywhere in the supporting 3 in the 4-2-3-1, covering Siggy, Bale, and Lennon.I wonder whether it's really that big a deal in Liverpool and London, though. Players agitate for transfers all the time. Deuce is a much bigger name over here. If Rooney can get on at Man U after his hissy fit, it's hard to see it hurting Dempsey much.

They usually wait until someone actually wants them though. Although I suppose he was under the impression that Liverpool were going to swoop in eventually.

Dempsey to Spurs looks done. Will he get regular time there?
I don't know if he will be slotted as a first team player right away, but given his versatility he will probably end up starting a lot of games. He might end up taking Lennon's spot on a more permanent basis.

Michael Essien moves to Real Madrid on a season long loan to replace Diarra whose off to Russia. Mourinho reunited with his former player. Sad to see him go as hes a warrier. But still, I like this move for Chelsea as Real pay Essien's wages and we get to see if he still has any legs left after the consecutive surgeries.

One of my all time favorite players - heres hoping for a healthy comeback.

Diarra's a nice addition for Anzhi Makhachkala who have had a relatively quiet window. Their biggest move other than Diarra was getting 6'8 striker Lacina Traore to play alongside Eto'o.

Unfortunately Anzhi clobbered AZ Alkmaar 5-0 today, knocking Jozy Altidore out of Europe.

What the hell happened to Chelsea anyway? They put up a full squad and got absolutely spanked.
They ran into the Falcao buzzsaw. The dude is on a tear. Simeone has been a wonderful manager, and he's already gained legend status with the fans. Big props to him and the entire team, who have been playing to prove something since Simeone's arrival.

You guys made Chelsea look like a bunch of millionaire weiniers. Thats some team - congrats

That was yesterday I think. No Europa games today.
You're correct, it was. They did the draw today and Anzhi is in the same group with Liverpool.I didn't think I'd have any reason to watch the Europa League until next year when Arsenal is in it, but an Anzhi-Pool matchup intrigues me.

It looks like the Moutinho deal for Tottenham failed because of a third party ownership stake. It will be interesting to hear how that killed the deal if it's true. It's being reported that the fee and personal terms were agreed.

Random bit of trivia I just stumbled onto:

Who is the only player to have played in all of the following: the World Cup, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup, UEFA Intertoto Cup, all 4 levels of English league football, and the English Football Conference?

Shearer?

btw- a big part of Dempsey's success last year was the meteorically improved play of Dembele... and now they get to keep that going.

Had to Google it. Would have never guessed it in a million years.

Not McManaman or The Romford Pele himself, Ray Parlour. This guy is retired, but is a few years younger than the two of them. He's not exactly a household name but definitely a recognizable name if you've been following the English game for the last decade or so.
