Cable vision just got NFL network 2 weeks ago. Doubt we get this
Oof. I don't know how you guys stand cable. I have had satellite since 1996. I do realize though that some people can't get satellite. beIN seems to be going down the line from biggest carriers to smallest so you likely will be waiting a while for this channel.
As far as I know, Time Warner in NYC still doesn't have it. Anybody know otherwise?I'd think they're a "bigger" carrier.
Time Warner is the 4th largest MSO.The top 3 (Comcast, DirectTV and DISH) have now signed a deal with beIN Sport. So Time Warner appears to be next in line. I have not heard anything though one way or another.

I caught the AZ vs PSV game to see how Jozy looks. Red card for AZ in the first 15 or so minutes meant that Jozy would be left out to dry up front, so I just fast-forwarded through the game. And yeah- not a lot of Jozy, although he dealt pretty well with what came to him even he wasn't getting the chance to link up too much. I'd still like to see his hold-up play improve more- but it's been improving every year he plays, so I'm not too worried. He missed an RVP type opportunity (deep cross to his chest into space for a shot) by skying his shot late in the game... and he looked gassed after chasing the ball while a man down.

Ah- ok. I'm hoping they get it down by Friday- 8:00 is putting the kids to sleep time so I'd prefer to DVR it at home. But there's a bar that's literally in our building that shows sports, so I shouldn't have far to go... unless they don't have beIN.

Pissing someone off in less than a week has to be some kind of record.

Hugo Lloris already unhappy with André Villas-Boas – Didier Deschamps
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/sep/04/hugo-lloris-villas-boas-deschamps?newsfeed=true
I don't think there is much there. Deschamps wants Lloris to start for club because he is France's #1, but Friedel played fantastic last week and AVB says that Lloris has to earn his place. Both positions make perfect sense. This is just your normal club vs. country bickering.
Totally. The only that's there is if it's Lloris that's genuinely unhappy, and not Deschamps. But as Andy mentioned, if he was promised a starting gig as part of the enticement to come, than yeah- he has every right to be pissed.

I would not hold my breath on the deal being signed by Friday. The other carriers who signed gave indications that they were in negotiations with beIN Sport well before the deals were signed. I may have missed it, but no leaks have come out of TWC yet.We mentioned this above with Tasker. If the bar has Direct TV (which it likely does) there is an excellent chance they have beIN Sport. I posted a link earlier which gave information on how to find what bars had Direct TV.

I just assumed he would play the cup and Europa games while Friedel played the league games and finished up his contract. But, that's just my thinking.

I also suspect that this was a bit of Kabuki theater from AVB for Friedel's benefit. A way of showing appreciation and recognition that the guy is still a top class pro in his 40's which will make it easier to replace him with dignity with the younger top GK.

And that save on the Norwich header on Saturday WAS flat out ridiculous. I'd have waved at that ball a good 5 seconds after it hit the net. Unreal reaction time.

Do you think Friedel will try for one more contract, likely a 2 year deal, in the EPL? Unless he is sick of the lifestyle and/or wants to restart his life in the US, there is nothing about his skill set that indicates he is anywhere near done.

Wow- Meireles goes to Fenerbahce.

I guess it's not a surprise given all the MFs Chelsea brought in this summer, but that was a guy who I felt was a major, if not most important part of their CL run last year. He and Ramires found another level that I didn't think either guy had in them.

I agree- still sooooo much ability at this level. I'd imagine, given his English accent, that he'll stay in the EPL for another couple of years with a mid-lower tier team. Like Liverpool.

I don't think he'll wind up with another top squad, but I'm sure there are a lot of mid to lower table teams that would be happy to have him. He could even play in the Championship and make good coin, if he so wished. It's all up to him really.

ahh thanks. I don't get that channel in the packages I chose.

I'm glad to see Huddlestone's red card suspension was overturned. Seemed like he did everything he could to pull out or at least not go all in. Yellow, yeah- but red was harsh given the slow-mo replay. Live action, I see how the ref misses that.

I think they also show Bundesliga and La Liga... and the same EPL games the ESPN shows.

It wasn't even a yellow. They both slid in and they both ended up getting a piece of the ball. Neither one of them went in high. Huddlestone took the blame because he got up and Howsen started rolling around grabbing his mangina. Nobody was actually hurt in the play.

He's better than Reina which is a bit sad for Reina. I don't know what happened to him.Friedel has two options; he can bounce around the EPL on yearly contracts and continue to start or he can stay on a team like Tottenham as back-up and get paid pretty well to basically be a player-coach.My understanding is that he has an incredible work ethic and he uses a lot of modern training techniques to stay in shape mentally and physically. I know he used to run yoga sessions with a lot of the team under Redknapp. Redknapp really took to him and the way that he was able to stay in shape. His record for games started really is unbelievable for someone of his age.

:shrug:I remember watching it the first time live, and thinking- ugh- nasty late tackle there. Huddlestone seemed to mistime it and the other guy seemed to get hit. Reply- yeah- like you said.

I would say there is basically a 0% chance that they have anything done by Friday. Time Warner is weird in that the different regions would have to pickup the channel individually, so even if they got a deal done it would still probably be awhile before the channel was actually added. I now have the ability to get att uverse at my apt, I'm switching over this weekend. I don't think uverse has an agreement with bein either, but it'll be worth it for the redzone channel alone.

His decision to give up international soccer I bet really helped out his longevity too. He has not played for the US in 7 years and yet, at worst, he could still be a clear cut #2 behind Howard if he wanted.

We mentioned this above with Tasker. If the bar has Direct TV (which it likely does) there is an excellent chance they have beIN Sport. I posted a link earlier which gave information on how to find what bars had Direct TV.
I tweeted at them and they tweeted back that they do have beIN and that they will be showing the game. God bless the internet.

How hipster of you...

So it appears the comcast pressed to get BeIn in time for the Jamaica match by adding the BeIn spanish channel that will not be showing the match.

wait, what?
I read something by comcast rep that they were trying to add BeIn before the USA-Jamaica World Cup qualifying match. Then a comcast rep stated that they are only adding the BeIn spanish channel this week. That channel is a completely different channel than the english one. So, if you have Comcast, you won't be able to see that match.

It appears to be true that they are adding the Spanish station first but your last sentence does not seem right to me. If you have the proper Spanish package on Comcast you should still be able to see the game. The Spanish version of beIN Sport is showing the US game on tape delay at 11:45pm on Friday.http://www.beinsport.tv/grid.html

Not the most important thing in the grand scheme, but the Costa Rican earthquake is likely to affect Mexico's WC qualifier there this weekend.

Looks like Dempsey signed a very good deal for his age.

$22m for the next three years. That is a long way from his initial MLS rookie contract.

Didn't see that. Sorry, I am just griping since I can't get what I want. I figure I will be lucky to get FSCHD and BEINHD by next fall.

If Fox does not win the EPL contract this fall/winter their may not even be an FSC left as a channel for you to want in HD :)

New world rankings are out

Spain tops the list, followed in order by Germany, England, Portugal, and Uruguay in top 5

Brazil is at 12. Their position is hampered by no WCQing

Ivory Coast tops Africa at 16

Mexico tops CONCACAF at 21

Japan tops Asia at 23

US at 33, right between Mali and Norway.

Greece at 11 and Belgium at 40 are the two that stand out to me as out of place. Belgium, as we all have seen, should be poised to be a top 20 side this cycle if this set of players comes together.

Grant Wahl predicted the following lineup. I know the likelyhood of this is low since guessing Klinsmann is near impossible but I would be relatively happy with this

------------------------------Howard-------------------------------

--Dolo------------Cameron----------Boca------------Johnson---

-------------------Beckerman---------Edu------------------------

----Williams-----------------Jones-----------------------Herc----

------------------------------Altidore-------------------------------

If either Goodson or Parhurst look great in practice, I would love to see one of them in for Cameron, and then Cameron in for Beckerman.

That would put him well outside the Tottenham wage structure. I would be surprised if that's accurate. They aren't going to blow up their wage structure for a player coming off the bench.

Love that back line, probably the most solid it's been since Africa. Midfield is atrocious as expected but we can probably get away with it given the quality of the competition.ETA: Dolo starting to show his age IMHO, could be an issue against top competition.

There's supposedly a grainy cellphone video of Pique and Shakira making sexy time.

No word yet if Pique treated her like everyone else and allowed her to get in behind him.

This might be the first time I think the US is actually too low. Mali and Norway indeed.

I'm glad you're familiar with Jamaics then... good. Who are their star players- dangermen up front, ball-winners in the MF, what's their tactical shape under their current coach who's name is escaping me... you know- the types of info that might allow a sane person to jump to that kind of conclusion. That MF isn't our best hoped for- obviously Bradley and LD would bring the class level way up. But those are guys that hold their shape well, work hard and defend- all things that are needed on the road in WCQ. Just praying that Jones doesn't go all... Jones on us and pick up a couple of stupid/cheap yellows.

If I am not mistaken, these upcoming US games will be the first real game (WC, WCQ, Confed Cup, Gold Cup) that Donovan has missed going back to probably before the 2006 WC.

He was not called in for a couple during the WC2010 cycle because the US had already wrapped up qualification and Bradley went with newbies.

Organizers are doing their part to make sure everything goes smooth at the "Office" in Kingston, Jamaica, this Friday. Check out this advisory distributed to fans ahead of the match: “The Police are advising supporters … that no firearms, knives, drugs, ice picks, machetes, glass bottles or any other items that can be used to cause serious harm or injury, will be allowed inside the venues.”
