Hell of a shot
On benchokay....ummm, where's Altidore?
I think Shea is going to figure into the second half if the opening does not appear. We may need his skill set to try and break them down.Alright - that's it - we are jinxedGotta go in deep and whip it back around fast - coming out around into space and drive to the net quick - just like that
Dempsey.![]()

Since our set pieces go over the top of the bar or 50 feet wide - I take it you are talking about Jamaica hereWorst part of all of this as we have all seen games where one team dominates but can't score and the other team steals three points on a set piece.
Yes, the "other team", in this case is Jamaica. Although our set pieces have been excellent tonight. Gomez has already hit two or three perfect crosses. Just need to get a head on one of them.Since our set pieces go over the top of the bar or 50 feet wide - I take it you are talking about Jamaica hereWorst part of all of this as we have all seen games where one team dominates but can't score and the other team steals three points on a set piece.
Yeah, but when's the last time the US lost to a team who stole the game from set pieces?Worst part of all of this as we have all seen games where one team dominates but can't score and the other team steals three points on a set piece.
I stand corrected - on frame - should have been saved thoughSince our set pieces go over the top of the bar or 50 feet wide - I take it you are talking about Jamaica hereWorst part of all of this as we have all seen games where one team dominates but can't score and the other team steals three points on a set piece.
Yeah, he should've stopped that. Not quite a howler, but that's soft keeping
Indeed. That should've been a fairly routine save. But being up 1-0 is more than deserved. Not quite a howler, but that's soft keeping
Wouldn't Jamaica have a GD of 1 and the US and Guat have a GD of two?If we play as well in the 2nd half, but don't score I can live with it. Sometimes things just don't go your way. The team is playing very very well and a point is still useful. A loss would be a bitter bitter pill though.btw... a one goal win for the US and the US, Jamaica and Guatemala are all three tied on points and goal differential.
Yeah... forgot to dock Jamaica's in event of a goal. US actually topping the group on goals scored right now they said.Wouldn't Jamaica have a GD of 1 and the US and Guat have a GD of two?If we play as well in the 2nd half, but don't score I can live with it. Cherundolo = class

Totally random... I was in Columbus for the U.S. 2-0 Mexico win ahead of the 2002 World Cup. I think it was 2001, but it might have been early 2002. Very cold. A friend I actually met through the old Soccernet message boards volunteered for the Crew and was working the VIP tent that night. So after the game she met up with us and took us inside, which was awesome since we could stretch out and get warm while we waited for traffic to thin out. Anyhow, we're hanging out and Sunil Gulati wanders over and starts chatting. We were talking about the WC roster and in the course of the conversation right back came up. At the time it was a bit of a problem, but Gulati suggested that Arena thought he already had 'the right back for the foreseeable future' in Cherundolo. IIRC Dolo had been capped at that point, but hadn't been available much due to injury. I know he wasn't really on the radar as a surefire starter at that point anyhow.Always think of that conversation each time Cherundolo trots out there -- now more than a decade later.Cherundolo = class![]()
very cool! The Mexico game that year was very cold. It was February 28th, 2001 (there are no qualifying games in the actual year of the WC as they usually have the draw in the December of the previous year). It was basically the first time we actually tried to use home field to our advantage, thought being "you make us suck smog at altitude, here have an ice cube to kick". It obviously helped with Crew stadium being the only SSS at the time and in an area where they could control the tickets and not let the Mexican fans dominate the crowd as they have in other locations in the country.Cher is quite a physical specimen playing as he does in a top league at a very athletic/mobile position at 33 years old.Cher's first cap was all the way back in 1999 IIRC. Such an impressive career. I do remember in the beginning though, he had a hard time impressing Arena who preferred his full backs to be taller.Totally random... ELS really had a decent chance to knock CR out of the Hex but that draw at home against Guyana is going to hurt them.ELS gutted out a 3-2 win in Guyana tonight to keep their hopes alive. It will all come down to the next game, which should be one of the most interesting in this entire phase of qualifying for CONCACAF.In the next game, ELS hosts CR. If ELS wins that game, they are automatically through to the hex and CR is out (assuming CR loses to Mexico tonight). Anything other than a win for ELS and they are in trouble since they have to travel to Mexico and CR has Guyana at home for the last game, likely creating a 3 point swing in the standings.Chicharito header 1-0
