Jozy almost got a 2nd yellow right there - pushed some dude down after missing a shot.

I agree, its time to get him out of there.

Jozy is actually playing really well (other than the 2 blown finishes, neither of which were easy) but Bradley has to take him out at the half. This game is essentially meaningless. They can't risk losing him for the first game in SA (especially since Davies wont be there either).

Connor and Ching starting at Striker :lmao:

actually, thinking about it, does Bradley go with Dempsey up front with Jozy now? I realize he's not a pure striker by any means, but he did some good things up top in the confederations cup. IMO, holden's better suited for that wing spot anyway.

If i was picking the squad (assuming full health for everyone by next year) this would be my 11....

Jozy-Dempsey

Landon- Bradley- Jones- Holden

Boca- DeMerit- Gooch- spector

Howard

I realize we haven't seen Jones yet, but once he's healthy, i gotta think he's gonna be good enough to start over the likes of Clarke and Feilhaber. Obviously Edu could challenge for a spot in the middle once he's back. However, i don't see Bradley benching his son or going with both Jones and Edu in the middle (both are really defensive for the most part).

I think thats our best back 4 at the moment though. I'd love to see Castillo get a shot on the left to slide Boca back into the middle with Gooch.

It seems the US found its attack there near the end. They need to keep it up and tighten the back.

Fans are trying to organize a show of support for Davies by standing for entire 9th minute.
Except it looked on TV like they did it in the 10th minute. Also, where did they get that poster of Davies? It looks like a Black Power poster from the early 60s/late 70s.

I thought Argentina was struggling to qualify...how could they be a top seed?
It's based on ho you did in the previous 2 WCs + how you qualify whatever FIFA feels like doing to make their preferred 8 teams as top seeds.
Fixed.-QG
Exactly. Nothing short of winning the WC will get the US a seed. And even then it's not a lock since if the US were to win, the rest of the world would just discount it as a fluke.

Us is actually playing very well right now. Rodgers has brought a good spark.

I really liked the work that Altidore did on that first goal. He played his man well and controlled the ball. Perfect to play to his strengths there. I though LD did a nice job of getting a clean shot off too.

Let's see the Nats put another one in the back of the net.

Kenny Cooper likely to come on?

Let's see how TOrres is doing...

Unless FIFA suddenly decides for whatever reason that they want us to be a seed (I mean we do have a new President after all - not saying that they would do for that reason, but FIFA is capricious enough that I wouldn't completely discount something like that either.)Dang it -Jozy!

Remind me again why hes still in the game?
The US didn't want to lose at home, hence the starters are in.
Also with the potential elimination of Argentina going into tonight, it's possible Bradley at least had a thought about a potential seed if they finish first in the group. We know that's not possible but Bradley might think otherwise.Costa Rica is basically asking for 10 minutes of injury time, eh?

Honduras should thank the US for not mailing it in....we could have fielded a B team tonight. Our guys went all out.

Costa Rica got ####ed. Hosed. Screwed. They might be out of the WC finals because of Bornstein.
I don't think they got hosed at all. They were slowing things down especially with the things like the substitutions and arguing with the refs. considering we had a player carted off and they had an injury stall the amount of extra time was plenty justified. Can only imagine how insane things must be in Honduras right now.Good luck against Uruguay, Ticos - at least it's not Argentina!-QG

Man, that was awesome.

CR was in full on "hang the #### on" mode. What a BS move with all that stalling.

I think that is one hangup that a lot of Americans have with the game.

You know ESPN is a serious about a subject when they bring Bob Ley into the studio. Loving all this soccer coverage.

Pretty cool scene when the dude scored and the other guy ripped off his shirt to reveal DAVIES.

USA USA

I don't even like soccer much, but ####, that was cool.

Still, to have the WC Finals pulled from you in stoppage time? Damn. After going up 2-0? AND the opposition has 10 men? C'mon...

Get healthy soon Gooch and Charlie.

"That other guy" is Jozy Altidore, the future #1 striker for USA. Remember his name. You'll be hearing it from South Africa.I'm so stoked about having tickets now... Even more than before. These last 2 games have been FUN to watch.BTW, winning the CONCACAF doesn't mean much for WC2010, but it *might* get us a seed for WC2014. We'll have to play very well in this WC though.
