WOW! That was epic. I even switched off my team Boise State to watch that match. Unreal.
Agreed. did they get their heart sucked out yes? Screwed though - no - they only blew it for themselves. Hope they show it on Univision - Uruguay vs Costa Rica could be pretty interesting. I'm sure that on paper Uruguay probably was hoping for Honduras (regardless of CR's recent form.)-QGPlay better. Don't stall like a bunch of pansies.Still, to have the WC Finals pulled from you in stoppage time? Damn. After going up 2-0? AND the opposition has 10 men? C'mon...
CloseJozy had Davies underneath his jerseyWe had 10 on cause Gooch got hurt bad after we made our subs.I dont know the guys name who scored on a header in the 95th minute to tie it.####. Mother####er. DVRed the second half to watch Glee with my wife and the DVR threw up. Here's what I think I know from this thread.- Somebody scored a goal to make it 2-2 in extra time- Gooch is hurt bad- We had 10 left on the field at the end. Why?- Costa Rica played like a bunch of #####es in the second half- Whoever scored the final goal had Davies name on a shirt underneath his regular shirt. Seriously?Does that sound right?

Well, double ####. I just managed to get it to play and now I've spoiled the ending for myself. Oh well. Should be good.

that type of stuff doesn't get the coach kicked out of the gameCapella, how do you feel about an offense running out the clock by calling running plays in american football? What about waiting until the play clock is nearly at 0 before snapping the ball? Are they also playing like pansies for having good clock management.
I'd feel worse for Costa Rica if they had controlled the game, but they really didn't. They had three good chances and converted on two of them. The US had maybe 10 good chances. It is weird how fast things change. I thought that Feilhaber had helped himself at the Confederation Cup more than any player except for Davies. But he really looked pretty anonymous tonight, while Torres really provided a spark. I couldn't tell whether Bornstein was at fault for Ruiz's second goal, but other than that he really played well. Kind of shockingly well.Still, to have the WC Finals pulled from you in stoppage time? Damn. After going up 2-0? AND the opposition has 10 men? C'mon...Get healthy soon Gooch and Charlie.
And I don't recall american football players writhing on the ground like they've been shot every 30 seconds. The other stuff (holding the ball in the corner, injury time substitutions), no one has a problem with.ETA - to CR's credit, they didn't flop stall too much tonight, like Mexico invariably does with a late lead.that type of stuff doesn't get the coach kicked out of the gameCapella, how do you feel about an offense running out the clock by calling running plays in american football? I don't think that's why he got the red. I think it was arguing with the ref. I could be wrong though. I thought that Ecuador got 5th, and that Uruguay was auf. Terrible to get the red that causes your team to be out of the WC Final. It looked to me like the CR coach submitted his sub card and then wanted to change it. The 4th official wouldn't let him and that was when the chaos started. I don't think that was part of an intentional stall.I'll be pulling for them against Uruguay, I want to see 4 squads from CONCACAF get in.
My #1 complaint with soccer has been the players crying on the ground every time they get nudged. If NFL players did that, I would stop watching. And I don't recall american football players writhing on the ground like they've been shot every 30 seconds. Now that I'm just watching the 64th minute, I can confirm that the announcers at least are convinced that Uruguay is is the competition.I thought that Ecuador got 5th, and that Uruguay was auf. I stopped watching the NFL because it's a) boring, and b) there are WAY too many commercials. My #1 complaint with soccer has been the players crying on the ground every time they get nudged. I'm not here to trash soccer, because I do watch the WC and some of the USA games...but football is about 1000x more exciting. The commercials are getting annoying though.I stopped watching the NFL because it's a) boring, and b) there are WAY too many commercials. My #1 complaint with soccer has been the players crying on the ground every time they get nudged. Disagree with this. I know Harkes was talking about what a great game he had but he is a serious liability defensively and is only good, not great on the offensive end. I put the 2nd goal on Boca and Benny though. Bornstein didn't play it well but Boca stepped up to fill in for where Benny should have been (he was too high) and got himself out of position leaving a hole that Ruiz exploited.I couldn't tell whether Bornstein was at fault for Ruiz's second goal, but other than that he really played well. Kind of shockingly well.
From Arthroscopy.com:Torn patella tendon would be more than 4 months I would think.
From TheDisabledList.comThe length of time required for casting or bracing is usually a minimum of 6 weeks followed by several weeks of rehabilitation.
How long does it take a torn patellar tendon to heal? If it's a partial tear it may take one to two months depending on the damage. If you have surgery you're looking at a six month timeframe. You'll need to allow the patellar tendon to recover, and then you start physical therapy to increase strength and flexibility.

Way better than any type of ACL damage also. If the patella is all that is damaged he should be good to go and 100% within 6mos. Good to hear if that is it.From Arthroscopy.com:Torn patella tendon would be more than 4 months I would think. From TheDisabledList.comThe length of time required for casting or bracing is usually a minimum of 6 weeks followed by several weeks of rehabilitation. How long does it take a torn patellar tendon to heal? Bob Ley was the voice of the US team years ago in the 90's. I hope his inclusion tonight is a sign that he will be a big part of the World Cup broadcast team, perhaps anchoring the studio before and after games. You know ESPN is a serious about a subject when they bring Bob Ley into the studio. Loving all this soccer coverage.
sigh, the World Cup thread is literally going to suck as bad as so many other threads.Jesus %#$@ing christ, this is one of the biggest threads on the boards, you really think we give a flying %#$ why some one does not like the sport??Is this what we are going to have to deal with in a World Cup thread???My #1 complaint with soccer has been the players crying on the ground every time they get nudged. seriously and I am not kidding, either talk about the games/players/matchups/coaches/tactics/broadcasters/ect or go away. None of us care why you don't like the sport. It is the absolute height of ignorance to come in to a specialized thread and then fart in it, friggan numerous times.Do you go into NASCAR threads and say "why are the drivers only taking left turns"Do you go into basbeball threads and say "why is he on the injured reserve list with a hang nail?"Do you go into football threads and say "why is there 5000 commercials for everry 10 seconds of play?"I'm not here to trash soccer, because I do watch the WC and some of the USA games...but football is about 1000x more exciting.

so true! I even remember the rumors of the Portuguese players trying to talk the SK into laying for a draw at half time in the tunnel. Thank freaking god they kept playing else we were out on our as instead of being a blown call away from a semi final spot. The way I see it, South Korea hooked us up in 2002 when they didn't need to. We're just paying it forward.
That's not what they did. If CR showed superior ball possession that would be one thing. Playing up an 'injury' to kill clock?
That's more like what the Seahawks did in '88 with Joe Nash repeatedly faking injuries per Chuck Knox's instructions to slow down the Bengals and their innovative no-huddle offense (ya know, the offense that Marv Levy wanted the league to ban). -QGPsst - don't ever look at any wide receivers...-QGMy #1 complaint with soccer has been the players crying on the ground every time they get nudged. I have the next best thing Native. I was very happy to see the moment at 2:00 with the guy on the motor-scooter:If anyone finds a video of the Honduras fans watching the US's injury time goal, please post it. TIA

I'm thinking we're not too popular in Costa Rica right now though.Twitter from Grant Wahl:

Great video. Honduras hasn't been in the WC since 1982, so they have obvious reasons to celebrate.I have the next best thing Native. He said as much in a podcast with Bill Simmons about a month ago. I think they're actually going to be onsite too, but I may be misremembering what he said. Good point. I was re-winding a few times he did this to show to my 5-year old how he shielded the ball. I'm expecting him to use it this weekend against the other U5's and TOTALLY DOMINATE!!!Actually I did show it to him a few times since I had been talking about it earlier this week. He tends to dominate a little at the games so I try to get him to use some of his other skills (step-overs, pullbacks, passing to teammates etc.) throughout the game instead of scoring.TLEF316 said:Altidore was great last night IMO. He made some very nice little touches in the final 3rd and shielded really well. Work rate was great. He just didnt finish. I think you can chalk that up to the emotion. he wanted to score so badly.
rouddad:I think Jozy wanted to show off the Davies gear underneath his jersey. That is why he worked so hard. But obviously that is just speculation.andy_b said:I know Altidore's finishing was not great last night but damn did I enjoy watching him play. I have no idea what got into to him but his work rate was significantly higher than normal. Combing that high work rate with that big young body of his was causing issues for the defense. Very few strikers work as hard as he did and it really showed. If he can some how make this work rate his normal work rate and then clean up a bit on finishing(of which is his strong suit), he is going to be very solid for the US.
