Missed the ManU/Fulham game today....but looking over the scoresheet, I see 35 shots attempted? holy ####, I can imagine it was a shooting gallery....I don't recall ever seeing more than 25 before

Apparently Beckham tore his Achilles tendon in AC Milan's win today. That can't bode well for trying to get fit by June, much less make the WC team at all.

oooooooutOh well, not as if he should have been much of a factor on the England side, and now a more deserving player should be selected.

I say this all the time, but I love the Spanish media.Headline on as.com:"Atlético: Condemned to Suffer in Lisbon"You never see that stuff in English language media.Oh and 'pool is in a bad place these days...
I'd limit that to the American media. The English media is pretty straightforward. Saw this bit about Liverpool's play today.
That was another bitty Benitez performance and will do little to curb the carrion with their eyes on the Spaniard.
And I agree that Liverpool stinks. The only good thing is that when we're relegated to the Championship next year, I won't feel guilty picking another EPL team to follow.
Or not.
Eh. The more passionate I am about something, the more wildly I overreact to everything that happens. I get it from my dad. You should have heard the things I said about the Longhorns during the stretch run in basketball.

Barring an MLS work-stoppage (or a possible work-uppage on my part), I'll be going to that RedBulls v Santos game next Saturday. Really excited to see that stadium. A little less excited to see the product on the field, although I guess Robinho will be playing with Santos.

Torres thoughts on Liverpool. While I don't disagree with him, this probably isn't going to make him Mr. Popularity in the lockerroom. Also, is there any chance Pool has money to go make a real move this summer? Seems more like he is planning his escape than anything else.
If I was him, I really wouldn't care about pissing off my team mates. Outside of Torres/Kuyt/Gerrard/Reina they're pretty friggin' pedestrian. Just compare them player-for player with Chelsea, ManU & Arsenal. Those teams have players coming of the bench who'd run most Liverpool starters off the pitch.
I would add Mascherano to the four you mentioned. Outside of that, I agree with you. Injuries have hurt the team a good bit this year, but still, they won last season because they stayed healthy, really played together and overachieved. This year... ugh.

I feel bad for the guy. I think he works very hard and is always professional. Unfortunately for him, hype always gets people to believe he's more than the player he is. On every team I've ever seen him on he is very technically gifted and plays hard, but hasn't ever claimed to be a leader of men, which unfortunately for him is what a lot of media trys to sell him as.

I can't say I necessarily feel bad for him. Of course, I'll always be a Beckham fan, but let's face it, he's 34 and England has tons of talent in the midfield. He makes a terrific complimentary player on the club level, he's still terrific on set pieces, is strong in the attack build up, and not a liability on defense. I know he direly wanted to play in the WC, as his last chance to play for England, but well, you can't have everything in life. Dude's super rich, has a hot wife, plays where he wants, he's had a pretty good run.

There is a very high likelihood this game goes on as planned if its on the 20th. MLS teams are still playing right now.The players have an agreement to keep playing until March 25th. If no deal in place by then, they have agreed to strike.

Freddy Adu must be doing something really wrong. After not getting off the bench the last 3 games, he isn't even dressing tomorrow. I don't know if it's attitude, work ethic or what but clearly it isn't that he just has the wrong manager (unless the 7 he's had since moving to Europe are all the wrong manager).

I'm sure it's a hard transition from being the best without trying to having to work your ### off just for a spot on the field. I think he needs to look inwards and make some changes if he ever wants to have a real career. Hopefully he has the right kind of people around him that can make him see this although I'm afraid with all the hype as a young kid he is going to be like all the child actors who simply never get their lives together.

Hull City Manager is fired

I wonder how this may affect Jozy?
He's only on loan this year, right?
Hull City does have an option to buy him after the season but that looks really, really unlikely at this point.
He had expressed an interest in staying but I think it's just he's a kid that has realized how cool it is to be playing professionally in England. Much easier than Spain bc an American can fit right in. But Hull is going to get relegated so I doubt they will want to buy. But Villareal will probably loan him out again next year (though I could see where he could come off the bench for them which wouldn't be bad)

If jozy plays well in the world cup I could see Villarreal keeping him as a backup next year. Otherwise he'll go on loan again IMO.

That Inter-Chelsea game has to be one of the worst I've watched in a while. Inter's theatrics were maddening and Chelsea acted like spoiled little kids the whole game complaining endlessly about every foul (sometimes they had a legitimate gripe but sometimes it was plain butchery and yet they still complained). I still don't know about the Drogba red but it was over by then anyway. Inter's backline played magnificently though

So what's the word on the MLS work stoppage? I've still got my eye on those two primetime Saturday night TFC games, but I don't want to buy tickets if they're not going to play.....at least the Galaxy game tickets should be considerably cheaper now...

no change. Both sides still talking. Federal mediator being used. Players have voted to strike if deal not reached by March 25th.My guess is that we may see a 2-3 week strike bu hopefully something can be worked out ahead of time.

and don't forget the MLS managers he drove crazy. Novak completely gave up on him.So disappointing.

Good - drama is fine when it's not Barcelona trying to advance. Glad to see them take care of business easily today, even without Xavi.

Messi is unstoppable right now.
 I really want to see him and Rooney on the field at the same time- both playing at a level way above the rest of the world.

I hate to say it but so is a healthy Ronaldo with 22 goals in 23 appearances this year for Real.

Fulham's come back from 4-1 to Juve in the Europa League...Dempsey is warming up and this is what the Matchtracker guy posts:

"Dempsey is warming up on an exercise bike on the sidelines. Lazy."

Going to have to find this:

Clint Dempsey scores a fantastic goal! He chips the ball over the scrambling goalkeeper from outside the box. Goal of a lifetime from the Texan. That was amazing from the American.

Interesting MLS note.

As many of you might remember, Landon significantly helped settled the strike issue for the US national team during the last World Cup. It was arguably one of the most important off the field leadership issues anyone has ever undertaken for the US national team.

How this relates to MLS is that Landon has just gotten on a plane and will be meeting directly with the mediator and owners representatives. Hopefully he can work some similar magic and avoid a horribly timed MLS strike to start the season.

Ok. Nobody else thought he was just trying to put the ball in a dangerous spot at the back post and not shooting? No way he was trying to beat the GK from there based on his movement with the ball beforehand (I don't think he looked even once at the GK's positioning). At least, that's my 2c. Great goal, but I doubt Dempsey would ever admit that he lucked it in.

Barca v Inter in the Semis would be nice.
Pretty conflicted about this one. :X
