Sup guys

Longtime FBG Charvik ran a WC pool in 2006 and is doing so again this go round if we can get enough interest (though he can't login here from work anymore)

Here's a link to the 06 pool thread:

http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=235030

And the link to the website he set up for the pool:

http://fbgpools.com/default.aspx

I am setting up a separate thread for this, but figured I'd gauge interest here amongst the footie diehards

Friends and family welcome, the website won't be FBG related

1) MLS signed Man United to play in the all star game at the end of July in Reliant stadium
OH HELL YES
Tickets ordered! #### YES100 level, can't efffinnnngggg waittttt!!!!!!
Nice. Going to look into tickets....Have you seen a match there? What sections should I try to get?
I've been to plenty of football games there, never a soccer match though.I was able to pre-order and got best available, section 128 which is like on the 40 yard line. I think I read that over 10,000 tickets have been sold so far (just over 24 hours)...and they don't go on sale to the public until 5/30. Reliant routinely gets huge crowds for soccer matches though and the crowd should be fun, although no where as near as fun as when Mexico or a Latin America team comes to town.

Yeah, my company has Texans tickets so I've been there for football games but that's it. Good to know they're not on sale yet. I was treating google like a farm animal and had no luck finding any tickets. Do you have a pre order link?

Saw this on another site. Apparently a show on ESPN Deportes says they have the 30 man US roster:30 men roster released on jorge ramos y su banda ON ESPN DEPORTES RADIORimandohowardguzanhannemanhedjukcherundolospectoronyewubocanegrademeritbornsteinpearcegoodsondonovandempseyadubeasleyedutorresbedoyabradleyfeilhaberholdenCLARKdaviesaltidorechingcaseybuddlegomez-------------I like Adu making it as the last man to get the experience. How often do the last couple guys on the team actually play?
Is this at all legit?

Recently moved from NYC to Houston and just noticed Man U v. MLS All-Stars is taking place here in late July. Anyone ever go to one of these friendlies? Seems like it'd be mildly entertaining.
I went to Toronto FC vs. Independiente a few years ago. Not quite the same exact friendly, but it was fun. The players and fans treated it like it was a regular league game, not like a typical US all-star type of game. Independiente won 1-0, IIRC.

I believe I called it awhile ago that Montreal would be a great expansion city.
Great town. Montreal >>> Toronto
Disagree. I loved Toronto. Had an ok time in Montreal. Too much French I think. It was much easier to meet people and have a good time in Toronto.
Yeah, you must have a wife or something. The girls in Montreal reign supreme. Beautiful and not afraid of happiness. I'm probably one of the few that don't mind the French. French Canadians are much friendlier then anything you'll encounter in Paris. I just found Toronto a bit stale and boring. Of course, I'm coming from NYC so I can be a bit of a snob when judging cities.
Both cities are great; can't really go wrong. It had nothing to do with the French, though. The food was better than Toronto, and cheaper, which was good...I'm sure Montreal will be a fine MLS city.

:excited: to ESPN for the in-game updates here in the Real Madrid game. Barca goes up 1-0 through Messi and they show a clip of it, similar to football-style "game breaks".

Madrid just scored on a penalty for a hand ball - penalty was deserved, but the ref also gave the Athletic player a straight red even though it was certainly an instance of the ball striking the hand than the hand striking the ball.

I wasn't paying attention to the commentary and all of the sudden it was the other game. Me -> Then

Oh my....

The weather here has been pretty crazy all day...rain, hail, and 50-60 mph wind gusts. I'm watching the Toronto FC/Chicago game, and they have the same weather.

TFC player sends in a cross from the touchline near the top right corner of the 18....and the wind just gets a hold of it and puts it in the back of the net, over the outstretched arms of the keeper, who came out to challenge the cross

Announcer: "beaten by a freak goal"

Well that was excruciating - with about 25 minutes left in each match, Barcelona was cruising with a 3-0 lead and Madrid was still level 1-1, results which would have given the Blaugrana the title. Then Sevilla (a man down) scores two quick goals and the merengues finally break through (and then really lay it on) scoring 4 in the final 17 minutes. Thankfully Barcelona holds on to win and now need to win at home against Valladolid next Sunday (or have Madrid draw or lose away at Malaga) to win La Liga.

Caught the second half. Not pretty for the Fire. Interesting talk about Lalas pushing to have Bradley invite Brian McBride to camp. Sometimes the wily vet is the best choice for tournaments like this. Couldn't believe the commentator said it would be unfair to guys who'd been competing for positions thinking they'd get a shot. It's the freaking World Cup. You put your best team out there no matter who they are. If that means McBride is on the squad. Too bad.

Anelka with an early goal...

Wigan has had a couple of good looking attacks in the few minutes that followed though.

Drogba sulking on the field becuase he didnt get to take the penalty. Hes tied with Rooney for the League lead with 26 goals. Hes arguing with Ancelotti on the sideline, fighting with Lampard (who take the penalty) and just kicked a ridiculous shot from 30 yards to express his discontent. What a friggen baby. Ive defended this guy for years but this behavior is completely unacceptable.

FWIW Drogba has been a team player in the second half - nice passing and part of the goal scoring celebrations as he should.

It was ugly there for a few minutes in the first half

Drogba with a sick bicycle kick saved by the keeper but he comes right back with a header for his 27th goal and Chelsea's 100th of the season

5-0

Already posted in the WC thread as a Brazil homer, but you might as well start a Brazil heading and put me down for Flamengo as well, particularly with the Brasileirão just getting started. :lmao:
