All votes are cast in secret.
Couldn't have it any other way. How else can you tell who got bought? But if you are going to do corruption, you really need to study the experts. I think they should do it like they do for the Pope and all huddle in a room with no vote tallies released and all votes are burned afterwards. Then once the decision is made they can start the smoke signals.

Twitter is lighting up.

Still looks too close to call but some reporters in Zurich are now saying that the US is a slight favorite but that Australia has closed the gap and it may now be a real race between the 3 countries.

just a bunch of reporters on the ground in Zurich like Grant Wahl and Oliver Kay.Just watched an ESPN International report on ESPN.com where the reporter said unless the bookies truely have information that no one else has, he can't see any way Qatar can be selected. He is hearing that they will be the first country dropped. This is all starting to sound just like the night before a big election where everyone is going to gamble and take a chance that their guess is correct.

Australia makes a certain amount of sense, ala the US in 94... if not for ruining China's shot.

I'd consider finally getting to Australia for that- been dying to go my entire life.

I agree. It seems that almost everyone who is interviewed said this really should be between the US and Aussie. But so many rumors about Qatar already having 7 votes secured is causing every thing to go hay wire.I will be very disappointed if Qatar gets it. I will be only be slightly disappointed if Aussie wins as deep down I think they may deserve more than the US does.As for China, both Blazer and Alan Rothenberg were asked about the affect of China making noise that they want 2026. Blazer says it has no affect, AR says its the best thing that has happened to the US bid. Love the dichotomy

Would the US be in the running for 2026 if Australia gets 2022?

impossible to say. If England does not get 2018, I don't see how much longer that country should wait. They should be well ahead of the US in the queue. And as we have speculated, if China is serious about 2026, I could easily see FIFA dumping the rules about the same confederation not hosting twice in a row.Their is a good chance if we lose 2022, we might not have another real chance until 2034.

calculating age in 2034.... ok, almost there.... right. dead.

In 2022 my sons will be 14 and 16. They both play soccer already. It would be a perfect time to attend and for them to get involved. I really hope we get it.

How sad is it that we all are assuming widespread vote buying is going on...
Seemed like a decent amount of evidence already outed some bribes. Once you get the stink of corruption on you it's hard to get off.If they really wanted to clean up the process they really just need to open it up to more voters and get rid of the secret ballots.

My son's only one, but I've already started making arguments to AngryWife about how he and I are going to need to go to World Cup 2022 for father/son bonding. That being said, when 2022 comes around, she's going to be pissed that I didn't tell her about it in advance even though I'm giving her TWELVE YEARS NOTICE.

If the US does get the bid, I recommend starting to save yesterday :thumbup:I remember how expensive it was back in 1994 when they were unsure of the turnout. The ticket prices for 2022 are likely to be outrageous.

What time will the official choices be announced tomorrow?
ESPN/FSC/Univision/etc start broadcasting at 10:00am. I have no idea when the actual announcement will be made. It may depend upon how many rounds of voting are needed.
And they start with a ceremony, then commercials, then do 2018, then commercials, then a segment or two about the country that got 2018......That is pretty early out West to just watch a bunch of fluff.

Saving the money's not the problem. Convincing the wife that it's a worthwhile expense is the problem. Thus the whole bonding angle. To put it frankly, little bentley is going to be forced into soccer at the youngest age possible so that his dad can go to World Cup games. He already has a ball.

Hopefully the "same confed can't hold back to back WC's" will be felt by the voters.

Ignoring China, both Japan and SK votes may go to the US and away from Aussie/Qatar if they want to rebid for 2026. Those 2 votes would obviously be critical to securing the 12 needed.

12yrs isn't nearly enough notice. You should have told her about it when you started dating or possibly before she was born.I recommend http://www.soccertots.net/ for your son when he reaches 18 months. My oldest went through this and has played league soccer since he was 3. He already has US and England national team jerseys along with a Chelsea one sent by an uncle in England. I may have to swing 2018 and 2022 if England and the US land them! :yucky:

yeah it was a solid presentation all around. But as we have speculated here, we don't think the presentation is really going to change anyone's mind.

Peoples mind (and more importantly their bank accounts) are likely already set in place. Although with these things there is always some hold outs who won't be bought or are looking for too much which can add some variability to the votes tomorrow.
Agreed.Where can I find the 2018 bid presentations?
FIFA.com has all of them I believe but I don't know the exact links
I haven't been able to find them there. I found all of the 2022 links.http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/bidders/live/index.html
Turns out the 2018 presentations were today in Zurich.

Cell Phones were collected from all voters so that no early leaks occurred. I had hoped we would find out which countries were eliminated as the rounds went by but it appears maybe not.

I have not seen this confirmed yet but reporters are tweeting that head of Qatar bid just announced "we have won". Hopefully it is just posturing.

Four Four Two is reporting, unconfirmed, that 2018 has now gone to a 3rd round of voting which is the reason for the delay.

that's probably really bad news for the US since the only way that happens is if Spain really did have that block.
to be honest it has to be nothing but a guess by 4-4-2. Their was no way to get this information as they have been locked in a room with no phones.

GrantWahl:Qatari delegation members getting handshakes & some hugs from FIFA voters. Hmmmmm.... :goodposting:
not good. Oh well. The US did the best they could. I feel really really bad for Australia. At least we have held it once. They can not rebid until 2030 and may be going up against China. They realistically will not be available to get it until 2042 (figuring the US and Europe will get 2034/2038)Horrible for them.
