First round of the MLS Super Draft is complete (second round is about half way done)

5 of the first 8 players chosen were from Akron (holy hell!!)

4 of the first 6 players are members of the US U20 Side

Rooney's brother was drafted middle of second round by NY (in a trade with Houston)

Here is the tracker. http://www.mlsnet.com/superdraft-tracker

Omar Salgado went #1 to the Whitecaps. He is the kid who has switched from the Mexico youth national teams to the US youth national teams. He was born in El Paso Texas. Listed at 6'4".

"Robbie Savage admits Vancouver interest"

whoa. I was just wondering about him... kind of a thug in the Barton, recent-Scholes kinda way, but I always liked how he plays- full effort and decent skills on and off the ball.

Interesting note about Salgado

"Unless FIFA grants special permission, he will be ineligible to play for Vancouver's first team until Sept. 10, when he turns 18. FIFA bars players from transferring to clubs outside their country until their 18th birthday."

This is a confusing rule for MLS with teams in two countries. Even more strange, he was already on Vancouver last year on loan.

Liverpool squad sheets for the derby this week have Johnson oot of the back four and up at RM. ;) for finding a way to keep kelly in there, Ken

Exciting first 20 minutes for Wolves and City. Wolves in the right place at the right time to poke in a goal off a miscue clearance from Toure...then City go on the front foot and almost (and perhaps should have) conceded a goal on a Wolves counter.

Wolves taking it to the big boys lately. Nice to see new blood in the EPL

Second half could go either way imo....Garreth Barry needs to go ahead and kill himself, he is terrible.

According to this German article, 33-year old Slovakian national teamer and FC Nurnberg forward/A-mid Marek Mintal is on his way with his wife to Philly to check out the area. Assuming all goes well, he will sign a 3 year contract with the Union for at about $330k per, plus a house and a car, plus a conditional fourth year if he plays in half the games of the third year. Nurnberg has his contract until the end of their season, but apparently are willing to do right by Mintal and let him out early so he can sign with Philly on a free transfer during the January window.

If Mintal signs on, this would be a huge offseason for the Union, who are also poised to add Colombian national teamers GK Faryd Mondragon (formerly of FC Koln in the Bundesliga) and CB Carlos Valdes (25 year-old former captain of Santa Fe in the Colombian league), as well as 2-time MLS Cup and 4-time Supporter's Shield winner DM Brian Carroll from the Columbus Crew.

And they really need to start announcing these signings quickly because the team's Facebook page basically melted down yesterday over the Bimbo sponsorship news. Apparently a lot of people out there are not only against the name Bimbo on the shirts (not too surprising), but are also against supporting "a Mexican company", despite the fact that 1) the sposnsorship rights are actually held by Bimbo Bakeries USA, based in HORSHAM, PA, and 2) that most of these people likely have a Bimbo product in their house and don't even realize it, considering Bimbo produces Arnold bread, Entenmann's, Boboli pizza crusts, Thomas' English Muffins, among other things.
They may buy Tasty-Cake too.

So, does Arsenal play down to the competition today?
Don't they always?
Well, that's not really true....they've just been inconsistent in these last two matches against lesser competition. Hopefully they show up today, knowing that they need 3 points to keep pace.
As much as I genuinely love watching them play, they need somebody- anybody- to step up and be the guy who doesn't pass it when he's in the box.I know I'm cursing him back to the trainer's table, but Van Persie has looked like he's finally getting his form and fitness back... maybe he's that guy (I think I even saw him take a couple of shots from outside the box (!?) last game). So who do you guys think is getting sent down at the end of the year?IMO,West HamBirminghamWigan

Holy crap you can tell these commentators are paid by a US television station. ####!

I'll go with:

West Ham

Aston Villa

West Brom

I assume this is about who goes down. I think the Hammers could get above the line if they bring in O'Neill. My bet as of right now would beWBAHamWolves (with Wigan just eeking them out)I don't care how bad Villa is playing, until it actually happens, I don't think they relegate (btw, they also have a game in hand on most).

No, it was about the incessant babbling. It's getting worse and worse. I have no doubt it's Fox Sports telling the Brits Americans expect there to be yapping going for beginning to end.
I thought the Fox feed was straight from the british coverage... ESPN's is definitely geared for the US fan (and Macca is getting extremel irritating to me).

LONDON -- American midfielder Jermaine Jones is set to join Premier League club Blackburn on loan from Schalke.

After Blackburn's 2-0 loss at Chelsea on Saturday, manager Steve Kean said the deal is close to being completed.

Jones, who made his U.S. national team debut in October, was sent to Schalke's reserve team in November because coach Felix Magath was unhappy with his effort and commitment.

Great, so we can all stop calling him...you know

By Leander SchaerlaeckensESPN.comArchiveGale Agbossoumonde, a 19-year-old central defender on the U-20 U.S. national team, has joined Swedish club Djurgardens IF.Agbossoumonde is owned by Traffic Sports, a Brazilian company which buys the rights to soccer players as investments. He will travel to Sweden on Saturday after concluding a 12-day training camp with the U-20 side in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.Initially, Agbossoumonde will join the Stockholm-based club on a two-week trial, with the understanding it will turn into a 6- or 12-month loan, Agbossoumonde's agent Aaron Maines told ESPN.com. The deal will include an option for Djurgardens to buy the player outright, Maines said. The move had previously been reported as a trial."I can confirm that he is coming to train with us," Djurgardens spokesman Jonas Riedel said. The club had no comment on a possible loan and transfer, citing club policy not to comment on ongoing negotiations."We're all optimistic but it's not something that's done and agreed upon already," Maines said."They'll keep him if they see him as their starting center back," said Maines. "They need some help right now and will keep him if he doesn't turn out to be a project. They're looking for a center back to step into their starting eleven and they think Gale is that person."The move ends a tumultuous 2010 for Agbossoumonde. His six-month loan to Portuguese club Braga ended without any agreement. He was subsequently loaned to Traffic-controlled Estoril, which plays in the Portuguese second division, but he was not registered in time to be eligible to play in competitive games. The club's depth limited Agbossoumonde's repetitions in practice, causing him to fall out of shape. In an interview with ESPN.com in November, Agbossoumonde said he was dealing with anxiety and disillusionment."This move was extremely important for his development," U-20 coach Thomas Rongen said. "I put a lot of pressure on [his agents] and on Traffic, to say, 'You have to put this player in a good environment or he might not make the qualifying team [for the U-20 World Cup].' They were very proactive."Djurgardens' [incoming] head coach came to see him [in Florida] and saw him play twice. Based on how [Agbossoumonde] played and how excited the head coach was, I got the impression that if he keeps it up they could make the move permanent. The coach is very impressed by him. I think it's an ideal situation."Maines said Djurgardens' incoming coach has been pursuing Agbossoumonde for some time"[Agbossoumonde's] excited about it," Maines said. "There's a comfort level. I think this is a step in the right direction from where we've been. It's important for him to be playing on a weekly basis right now."Agbossoumonde recently made his debut for the senior U.S. national team, coming on as an 87th-minute substitute against South Africa in a Nov. 17 friendly.

This kills me. This is one of best prospects at this age group. Other similarly talented kids are getting 40+ games a year and this poor guy, through some horrible management decisions, is literally getting nothing.

Tough yellow sends Rafael off and ManU is down to 10......while it was a clip of the heel and it wasn't dirty - Rafael had been beat and it wasn't pretty how he did it.

Rafael picks up a second yellow on a questionable decision with 16 minutes to play and a 0-0 scoreline...
If you saw the first yellow, you'd know why. He was flat out told if so much as breathed wrong the rest of the match he was gone
I saw it. But what does one have to do with the other? He was trying to avoid the guy.
Oh come on Christo. I'm sure you've had a ref tell you that before. The first was borderline red. He gave him the instruction that if you even make me think about a card then you're gone. As a player you know this.

To be honest, I didn't see it. I missed the 25th minute through halftime; what happened?
He lost the ball and came it with legs spread, one of which was about knee high. Big controversy and Spurs players jumped the ref as Rafael ran away. After about a minute of arguing, ref called Rafael over and gave him a 30 second lecture and then the yellow.

But it wasn't a foul where anyone should have thought of a card. It wasn't violent. It was a trip. And he wasn't the last defender. That foul standing alone never gets a card.

Come on spurs!!
Disagree here....a United win would keep a bit of space between Arsenal and Chelsea/Spurs at 4/5. I'm fine with conceding the title to United or City if Arsenal play well and make the Champions League.Plus, it's ####### Spurs...
All I wanted was CL when the season started, so i am not terribly upset with the result, but I will always root against United against everyone but Chelsea
