Arsenal's passing has been awful. Barcelona will have more possession, but they have to stop compounding the problem.

Oh ####! Arsenal off the set piece.

Van Persie get sent off because he can't hear the whistle.

That's ####### absurd.

Way to ruin a great game you jackass referee.

WHAT A SEQUENCE! (BOTTOM UP)

55'

Van Persie is off!

54'

Comical defending for that Arsenal goal, Maxwell, Abidal and Busquets all jumped into each other and it came off the midfielder.

53'

Villa clean through and Almunia does superbly to block the ball at his feet. Great save.

52'

Barcelona 1-1 Arsenal. The emergency centre-back heads through his own goal from ansri's corner, under pressure from Diaby.

52'

GOAL Busquets own goal.

I'm an Arsenal fan, but I'd rather see this game 11 v 11 than if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Messi or Villa who was sent off for that. Extremely weak.

:goodposting: Horrible call.Barca has had all the chances in the world and will have 30mins more, deserve to lose if Arsenal can hold on.

It's being reported that between the whistle blowing and Van Persie kicking the ball a second elapsed. How the #### is someone supposed to hear a whistle in that madhouse and stop shooting in under a second?

Stupid ### referees can't keep their hands off the games.

Completely unrelated... can someone please tell the guy who keeps putting his hands up in front of the camera to quit it! I feel like I bought a limited view seat!

goal Messi, and that should be that....

unfortunate that a ref has to decide another one. Had the makings of a great finish. Arsenal could still score one and make it interesting, but they got jobbed by another ref...

I can't watch this anymore. Barcelona is the better side, but Arsenal got totally jobbed.
Agreed, but take nothing away from Barca. They win this thing regardless of Van Persie. Arsenal is completely outclassed.
I don't even like Arsenal, but Arsenal had every chance to win this game at 1-1. I don't think I have ever seen a softer red. Much less to do it in a game like this. That referee ought to be shot.Once Van Persie got sent off the game was ruined.

NEW YORK -- The United States will play Canada, Panama and Guadeloupe in the first round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, soccer's championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean.

The Americans open Group C play in the 12-nation tournament against Canada on June 7 at Detroit, play Panama four days later at Tampa, Fla., and close the first round against Guadeloupe on June 14 at Kansas City, Kan., under the schedule announced Tuesday.

Defending champion Mexico is in Group A with Costa Rica, Cuba and El Salvador. Group C includes Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras and Jamaica.

If the U.S. wins its group, it would play a quarterfinal at Washington, D.C., on June 19 against the third-place team from Group A or B. The semifinals are in Houston on June 22, with the final at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., on June 25.

The winner receives a berth in the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil, preparation for the World Cup to be held there the following year.

Mexico opens against El Salvador on June 5 at Arlington, Texas, plays Cuba four days later at Charlotte, N.C., and completes the opening round against Costa Rica on June 12 in Chicago. If El Tri wins the group, its quarterfinal would be June 18 in East Rutherford, N.J.

In the semifinals, the East Rutherford quarterfinals winners meet, and the Washington winners play each other.

The U.S. won the Gold Cup in 1991, 2002, 2005 and 2007, while Mexico won in 1993, 1996, 1998, 2003 and 2009. Canada won the 2000 tournament.

Did Arsenal ever take a shot?
NopeBarcelona Arsenal20(12) Shots (on Goal) 0(0) 8 Fouls 19 5 Corner Kicks 2 8 Offsides 4 76% Time of Possession 24% 0 Yellow Cards 3 0 Red Cards 1 0 Saves 9 Even with the red, the TOP was that way from the start. 0 shots by Arsenal are unbelievable. 19 fouls and 3 yellows along with the red is embarrasing. And yes the red was soft. Does this help Arsenal in its quest for other silverware? No CL means less games....

There are better days ahead for Arsenal.
I don't know. It seems we've seen their best for a while now and it just doesn't measure up domestically or internationally. They are the pretty boys of a rough and tumble domestic league but they're not quite as pretty as the prettiest on the continent. No hardware since the 2005 FA Cup.

I hate Arsenal (because Wegner is a jerk face) but its disgusting to essentially decide a game on a card like that.

That ref's career should be over.

Something in soccer reffing has to change. There has to be some sort of off-field referee that can call down to the pitch and say "that's ridiculous"

They have a pretty young team. I can only see them getting better. Other top english teams like United and Chelsea have a lot more rebuilding to do.

They will take a step back when Cesc is on Barcelona next year.

United and Chelsea dont rebuild, they reload!!! :boxing: United needs a center midfielder to take over: cantona, keene, scholes, who? Can carrick regain is 2009-2010 form and be that guy? Do they need to get someone on the market? Can Anderson learn to pass and take control?Other then that they do not have any real holes in their starting 11, but they do need depth, esp behind Scholes and Rio. Rafael, Vidic, Rio, Evra (with Smalling as the inside replacement)Valencia, ??, ??, NaniBerbatov, Rooney (and Chicharito)Center Mid and they are still rolling.....Athough I was rooting for Barca, it is sad to see Arsenal or any team get the shaft like that. BUT i have to ask how far from goal was van Persie when he shot? If he was more then 25 out then I can see the refs point. If he was in a true shooting range then he has a point. Although if he was way out of goal, i dont think it would be worthy of a 2nd yellow, esp given the magnitude of thegame, the place, etc.

How did Mascherano play? Didn't get to see the match and was wondering what impact he would have on it.
He didn't seem to have much of an impact (my opinion of course). He's a great holding midfielder, but on a team that moves like Barcelona he really doesn't seem to fit. They are always attacking and his passing just isn't up to snuff (compared to the rest of the midfield). Without Pique and Puyol this seemed like a good opportunity for him, but he still didn't seem to fit.Puyol isn't exactly a model of flair and brilliance, but he fills a position where it's not really required. Pretty much the only position it's not required for a team like Barcelona.

They lack depth in almost every positon but forward and their youth players are OK at best. Rafael and Chicarito are good, but they aren't ready to start regularly (Chicarito might be able to, but Rafael clearly isn't). The rest are pretty mediocre. You need more than a center midfielder in the starting 11 as well. You need a keeper and a center back. Rio is lucky if he makes it through half a season (not his fault though, he's 34). I guess you can go to Smalling, but I really don't think he is ready either.Edit: I also think the way the Glazer's financed the team there are going to be some serious problems going forward. The team has massive debt. There is no way they can keep up with City and Chelsea in the spending department. The UEFA "fair play" rules may curtail it a bit, but under those circumstances no English team will be able to compete with the likes of AC Milan, Inter, Barca, or Real. Their cable rights simply net them too much money.

After watching him play today it's possible he already is.

He was inside the box.

Pretty spot on. He did have the one good challenge on Bendtner to help break up that play IRC
