Real Madrid v SpursChelsea v ManUBarcelona v ShakhtarInter v Shalke
Pretty dull draw. It would have been cool to see two of Spurs, Shakhtar, and Shalke drawn together.
Yeah, considering all the possibilities it's not real exciting. Three matches with clear favorites and the one big showdown is one that's been done to death.
:goodposting:
So Spurs only have to beat Real Madrid and Barca to get to the finals? Simple.
:banned: Here's rooting for Tottenham!

Really good start to the season for the ratings.

=====================================================================

MLS Opener Up 112% in Viewership on ESPN

The 2011 Major League Soccer season got off to a much stronger start than last year.

Tuesday's Galaxy/Sounders MLS season opener earned a 0.39 U.S. rating and 604,000 viewers on ESPN, up 129% in ratings and 112% in viewership from last year (PHI/SEA: 0.17, 285K).

The Galaxy's win was also up 85% in viewership from the 2009 season opener, which featured the Sounders' MLS debut (NY/SEA: 327K).

The game also earned 79,000 viewers on ESPN Deportes, up 84% from last year (PHI/SEA: 43K).

Combining the household and P2+ viewership for the ESPN and ESPN Deportes telecasts, Tuesday's match drew a 0.43 U.S. rating and 683,000 viewers, up 115% and 108%, respectively, from last year (0.20, 328K).

It means the best of the best will advance. If you were seeding them it wouldn't come out that much different. I like it.

Want job security? Don't coach in the Bundesliga.

9 of the 18 league teams have relieved a manager of their duties so far this season:

Who gets the Direct Kick free preview? I have Time Warner Cable...
Direct Kick returns for the League's 16th season and is available on four separate outlets. Starting March 19, satellite TV providers DIRECTV and DISH Network©, along with most major U.S. cable systems via digital cable provider iN DEMAND L.L.C. and digital media services provider, Avail-TVN, will once again each present regional telecasts of MLS action.=================================

Does that help? Look in your PPV section where ever the sports are. All the MLS games showed up in DirectTV this week for Direct Kick.

US Soccer is running a strange campaign.

They are asking all twitter users to submit a motto for the US team. The motto will then be written on the new Red unis that will debut against Argentina.

Why is that strange? Crowdsourcing is fairly common now. I assume they'll get a ton of submissions and pick something pretty safe. It would be pretty cool if they picked a line from "Friday" by Rebecca Black.

Soliciting mottos from fans is not strange.Putting the motto itself on the uniform seems strange to me.

Putting it on the badge is almost invisible. I got the feeling from the press release that it was going to be on the shirt itself. Just have to wait and see. Hopefully it will be something cool. The last Nike motto was "don't tread on me" with some sort of snake wrapped around a volleyball as the symbol.

Seattle signed an interesting player last night.

Seattle Sounders FC have signed Argentine midfielder Mauro Rosales.

Rosales, 30, has been capped 10 times by Argentina and was a member of the gold-medal winning team at the 2004 Olympic Games, the 2001 FIFA U20 World Cup and the 2004 Copa America runners-up. He played the past four years for Buenos Aires giants River Plate.

Seattle was in desperate need of some technical quality on the field. Maybe Rosales can provide that and help link up some of the talent on the field.

O boy.

Stewart Holden has arguably had the strongest season of any US player looks to have taken an injury.

He suffered a horrendous challenge from Jonathan Evans of Man U. Evans was shown the straight red but Holden stayed down for a long time. Was finally stretchered off the field and replaced.

No word what it is. Hopefully it was just a nasty bone bruise type of injury as the studs went directly into the leg.

Amazing. Arsenal has to eek out a draw with West Brom and ManU is handed three points by Bolton.
Wow. Arsenal had 75% possession and out shot them 17 to 4 yet needed to come back from 2 down in the 70th. Every year Arsenal challenges my lack of belief in curses.

Barca vs Getafe

Both teams wearing shirts in support of Eric Abidal

Barca wearing "Testimem Abi"

Getafe wearing "Anims Abidal"

Tough loss for Fulham today losing 2-1 at Everton. Dempsey scored the only goal for Fulham.

Everton is likely safe now at the 40 point mark. The loss puts Fulham in a little danger now as they are only 3 points clear of relegation.

Everton was able to overcome a goal by Clint Dempsey to beat Fulham today 2-1 putting them at 40 points, only 2 points behind Liverpool (although the Puds have a game in hand.)

Depending on the outcome of the FA Cup, 6th place in the Premier League may allow for a Europa Cup spot. Nothing would make me happier than having the Toffees beat out Liverpool for that spot.

:no:City and United are playing in one semifinal. Stoke and Bolton in the other. So either Stoke or Bolton are going to get the FA cup spot. Screwed by the draw.

So someone explain the meaning of the SAF suspension - if you are suspended why do you get a seat right above the bench with a phone? And a guy running up and down the stairs? Might as well let him sit on the bench.

Holden leg looked cut open on that challenge -hopefully that was the extent of it.

I'll be at the Rapids opener against Portland tonight - one of my favorite Rapids John Spencer returns as coach of the Timbers. It's in the 70's today - a real departure for a Rapids opener in March - usually freezing cold and windy.

It means nothing. There really is no point in even suspending a coach if all he has to do is sit back a bit further and use a phone to communicate. Might as well just give him a stern talking to and send him on his way.

Charlie Davies will not get the start tonight according to tweets from DC United announcing the starting lineup. Wolff and Ngwenya are the two starting strikers for DC. Hopefully Charlie will see some time in the second half.

Now that's how you start a expansion franchise :)

Gorgeous stadium, jam packed and extremely loud crowd and your newly signed DP Hasslie thunders one into the back of the net to give the Whitecaps their first ever goal in MLS.

The next goal scored in any MLS game will be the 8000th scored in leagues history.

This is awesome. Non stop attacking. Vancouver just scored again to go up 2-1.

And of course all the ponchos they handed out are being tossed onto the field :)

Vancouver wins their first game 4-2. Wonderful start in front of a great crowd.

DC is 0-0 with the Crew at the 49th minute. Charlie Davies is now warming up. This is going to be a great reception for him if and when he gets in.

Well how sweet is that!!!!

DC draws a PK and Olsen has the balls to let Davies take it and he simply places it for a goal.

Holy hell what a special moment for Davies and good for Olsen.

And Davies with his 2nd!! Marshall slips and Davies sweeps it up, dribbles the keeper and slots it past a sliding defender.

This is so cool. Davies has to be sky high right now.
