4-0 now. Might be two legs but probably won't matter.Freddy Adu's team is in a promotion playoff game right now. Winner moves up to 1st division. Freddy's team is getting crushed 3-0 in first half.

The statement continued: "For The Sunday Times to suggest that 'nobody of sound mind could be persuaded the support for Qatar' was based purely on merit, because Qatar is a 'small desert state with a minuscule population, no football traditions and hostile summer temperatures' is not only insulting, it exemplifies the sustained and unbalanced reporting that the bid committee has been subjected to.''
MLS is not the best league in the world or the worst. Typically when you have some one like your Catalan friend do that it is someone who knows zilch about the league or watch 30 minutes of 1 game ten years ago. Best to watch about 10 or so games yourself and make your own opinion. Relying on a Euro's opinion of anything related to soccer in the US is never a good thing.Hung out with a real Catalan this weekend. When I mentioned MLS to him, he made a face like he smelled a poop.
Yeah!! I can't actually see what is wrong in that sentence. I still don't get who was posing as members of the US bid committee or why. Think someone pulled a good Clinton impression? Are they suggesting that isn't the case? Now I feel insulted.Qatar scathing over corruption claims

In City That Lost Its Team, Every Win Is a Point of PrideBy ROB HUGHESPublished: May 22, 2011 With due deference to the millionaire superstars whose soccer skills are followed across the world, the story of English soccer’s final weekend was the rise of A.F.C. Wimbledon.A decade ago, Wimbledon F.C., the original team in the suburbs south of London where tennis is king, was lured away by Milton Keynes, a town that did not want to build up its own club by winning its way through the minor leagues. A music entrepreneur treated sports like show business and persuaded the venerable Football Association to sanction a move familiar to American sports fans — shifting a franchise from its roots for the convenience of a new audience 60 miles away in another county. It amounted to the only case of identity theft of a club in the nearly 150 years of English tradition. Four Wimbledon fans rebelled. They called for open tryouts for players willing to start up a new club, A.F.C. Wimbledon. The tryouts, held on Wimbledon Common in June 2002, attracted 250 volunteers. Players came from near and far, including one from Finland and another who was a member of Chile’s under-21 national team.Out of that defiance, A.F.C. Wimbledon began one of the swiftest ascents English soccer has ever seen. In just nine seasons, the new Wimbledon club rose through five promotions and on Saturday night in Manchester beat Luton Town in a playoff to earn Football League status in League Two, three levels below the Premier League. The game itself was not much to watch. Neither side scored in 90 minutes, or in the tense, nerve-racking 30 minutes of extra time. Wimbledon prevailed in a shootout, largely because its locally born and bred goalie, Seb Brown, guessed the right way and leapt to stop two of the penalty kicks. Those saves and nine years of a community’s willpower were rewarded with entry to the pyramid of full-time professional soccer. It is one of life’s modern quirks that the playoff game Saturday was held at Eastlands, the stadium that houses a team, Manchester City, currently bankrolled by the ruling family of Abu Dhabi. From Wimbledon Common to Eastlands in less than a decade prompted an outpouring of “Nine years! It only took nine years!” by the Wimbledon supporters who made the trip to support their team.Brown was born the year after Wimbledon beat Liverpool to win the F.A. Cup in 1988. His parents were at Wembley that day.“We were involved in all the protests,” Brown said. “My dad kept all the banners and stickers in his loft along with the 1988 Cup final flag. He’s the most excited one of us all.”Fathers, sons, mothers and daughters were motivated by the uprooting of their team from their town. Followers of the N.F.L. might equate it to the raw emotions of the rebellion in the 1990s, when Art Modell, the owner of the Cleveland Browns, relocated the team to Baltimore. The N.F.L. later awarded Cleveland an expansion franchise, which was allowed to keep the team’s name, logo and legacy when it started play in 1999. Fan power from the grass roots up did the same on Wimbledon Common.“I’ve been driven by righting a wrong,” says Erik Samuelson, one of the founders of A.F.C. Wimbledon. “You have to channel that feeling into something positive. I sometimes felt that if we did right that wrong, and get back into the Football League, I might just collapse.”Samuelson is the chief executive of the fan group that owns and runs Wimbledon on behalf of 3,500 other trustees. They started with nothing, with no home stadium, no players and no money. The team still shares a stadium it helped buy with a club in the neighboring town of Kingston upon Thames. The players who won promotion on Saturday are paid, at most, £750, or $1,200, a week. They were promised a trip to Las Vegas if they pulled off this promotion. But the club is the antithesis to gambling.“We go up not owing a penny,” said Terry Brown, the team’s manager. “We live on what we earn. If we bring in 100 pence, I can spend 99 pence on the team, that’s it.”Out of its income, A.F.C. Wimbledon also runs boys and girls teams from ages 7 to 19.All Wimbledon business is taken care of by 35 voluntary staff members whose full-time chief, Samuelson, draws a nominal annual salary of one guinea — the old, gold-coin equivalent of a pound sterling.“It sounded posher than a pound,” Samuelson said.More than a pound was at stake Saturday. The directors of Luton estimated that promotion even to this tier of organized soccer in England would have been worth income of almost $1.3 million a season. How far voluntary labor can drive Wimbledon, everyone waits to discover.Their Champagne on Saturday tasted similar to the stuff sprayed around by the big boys, but some of the pioneers have not forgotten the putdown of an F.A. official, who nine years ago said that it was not in the best interests of soccer for A.F.C. Wimbledon to start up.The F.A. backed the appropriation of Wimbledon’s status by Milton Keynes, operating under the name the M.K. Dons. The Dons are now one division above A.F.C. Wimbledon.“I don’t ever want to play them,” said Wimbledon’s commercial director, Ivor Heller. “I don’t think they are a real football club. They shouldn’t exist, and they don’t exist in my eyes. The real dream is we go up, they go down and disappear into oblivion.”

What are they doing?

I have not found a link. I think it might be just call in.Is the presser online anywhere?
I am deeply disappointed that neither Chandler or Diskerud is included. Both would have been cap tied.Robbie Rogers and no Diskerud or Bedoya is very strange.Very happy to see Wondo get the call, he has earned it.Roster GK: Hahnemann, Howard, Rimando;D: Bocanegra, Bornstein, Cherundolo, Goodson, Lichaj, Onyewu, Ream, SpectorM: Adu, Bradley, Dempsey, Donovan, Edu, Feilhaber, Jones, Kljestan, Rogers; F: Agudelo, Altidore, Wondolowski

Good point about CHandler and Disk. What I've seen of Bedoya (a couple of moments of genius, lots of moments of :bupkisI am deeply disappointed that neither Chandler or Diskerud is included. , Rogers seems like the somewhat more upside LCD, IMO.do you mean.. der nazis?God I am getting paranoid that someone got to Chandler. I know he is not yet cap tied to US.
or just aliens? The twitter media can't figure out Chandler or Rogers. Don't hold your breathe. I doubt he sees the field unless we clinch early and have a meaningless game. Good to have him on board though. Great chance for Bradley to watch him practice with the big boys and make a call on his future.Looking forward to seeing Adu...it appears he's been humbled by Europe.Hopefully getting his butt kicked in Europe has improved his game.
meh...a lot of shoe-in games coming up. I'll be he gets a lot of time.Don't hold your breathe. I doubt he sees the field unless we clinch early and have a meaningless game. He is a lethal sniper. His goal scoring can not be ignored any more. He is not by any means fast but he has ball skills, specifically shooting is very good with both feet.At the Gold Cup level he will be fine IMO. Against Spain, well everyone is not really up to snuff.Correct me if I'm wrong, but Wondolowski doesn't really have the foot speed or ball skills to really make a mark at this level, correct?
Then why was he picked?Correct me if I'm wrong, but Wondolowski doesn't really have the foot speed or ball skills to really make a mark at this level, correct?
With 9 midfielders I don't think you should expect a ton of time. He is on the very bottom on the depth chart along with Rogers. His best chance to play is likely game 3 in the first round if the US has already won 2 and they have some yellow card issues. We might also get to see him come on late if the US is behind.meh...a lot of shoe-in games coming up. Hmmm...if I had to guess it's kind of like Ching where he's a solid MLS performer and hard working guy. Good for the squad type of player and good for promoting MLS to give him a spot.Ching is obviously more accomplished, but in terms of limited talent I think the comparison is somewhat valid. Then why was he picked?Correct me if I'm wrong, but Wondolowski doesn't really have the foot speed or ball skills to really make a mark at this level, correct?

Good points. I still hope they give him a lot of time.I feel like I'm the only one that saw "flashes" during WC qualifying. With 9 midfielders I don't think you should expect a ton of time. I'm not Bradley, guy. We're not exactly crawling with strikers with lots of pace and technical ability. I don't know Wondo's game beyond what I saw on his insane tear at the end of last year. But what I saw was a guy who had very good poacher's instincts and who could score in a variety of ways (either foot or off a header). He won the scoring title without anything like the service Buddle was getting in LA. If he can also take some hold up duties away from Jozy, he'd be a valuable guy to have. Then why was he picked?Correct me if I'm wrong, but Wondolowski doesn't really have the foot speed or ball skills to really make a mark at this level, correct?
Bradley could care less about promoting MLS, he needs to win. I don't think Bradley has the luxury of picking a good squad member as one of the three strikers. He most certainly intends to play him multiple minutes it appears.Hmmm...if I had to guess it's kind of like Ching where he's a solid MLS performer and hard working guy. And Wondo is also on good form this season showing that last season's golden boot was not a fluke. I love the pick. We're not exactly crawling with strikers with lots of pace and technical ability. He would have to play.God I hate this decision. I don't care how banged up he is. God forbid he continues to improve, Germany is not going to ignore an obvious talent. And even worse, by missing the Gold Cup, I think we now need to wait all the way until a WCQ to cap him.So instead of bringing the most talented full back in our system, we're bringing sacha klejstan to be our 6th center mid fielder?I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with that decision. Would chandler have to actually play to be cap tied or would being on the roster be enough?
I definitely agree Bradley intends to play him and agree he is good enough to hold his own given the talent level of the opposition we will face.I just don't see him having a long term impact given his limitations. He'd disappear like Ching against elite competition.Bradley could care less about promoting MLS, he needs to win. I don't think Bradley has the luxury of picking a good squad member as one of the three strikers. He most certainly intends to play him multiple minutes it appears.

Not that I'm comparing him to Wondo, but Chicharito kind of came out of nowhere for Mexico to win a scoring title (he actually tied with Hercules Gomez). Now Chicharito was still a lot younger than Wondolowski, but he wasn't considered a great youth prospect or anything. Nobody had him rated ahead of Geo Dos Santos and Carlos Vela. Heck, Nery Castillo was a more publicized prospect. And Chicharito's physical attributes don't strike me as anything other worldly either. He just has an incredible knack for making the right run and has above average composure in front of goal. Chicharito reminds me a lot of Inzhagi.Maybe we've found our Pipo.Lord knows we could use a striker that actually scores goals. We're not exactly crawling with strikers with lots of pace and technical ability. Bedoya would have been a 7th CM. We often play him on the flanks, but it's not a natural position for him. Rogers is a true winger in a team with very few true wingers (another reason why Chandler's omission is puzzling, as he can play right wing with pace).Looks like the Rogers over Bedoya pick seems to be the most perplexing to the media given the current form of both players (Bedoya had a great season and Rogers is off to a very average season at best)Looks like the media is buying the Chandler reasoning, but I wish someone would ask the question about the possibility of losing him.
